looking through my blog and.. I said some hilarious shit I still can't believe was me. Like.. I'm not sure I could think of that now
it's been ages since I've listened to Pink Floyd. I still consider them my favorite band, I just go through cycles where they're all I listen to, all I think about, all I do, and then I go through periods where I'll do just about anything else. I don't know. I've been listening to a lot of Will Wood, Nordic Folk, and Jazz. Recently picked up piano again and have been enjoying playing waltzes I don't know what my point was. Decided to listen to The Final Cut again because that's the only thing that felt right. I don't choose what I listen to, my autism does. It really is one of my favourite albums and I could and do listen to it over and over and over again. Roger's very raw emotional singing/yelling just relaxes me. I always hated when my past therapists wouldn't take it seriously when I would tell them how important my music is as a form of self regulation. It's not just music, but my music. I've since learned more coping strategies, but it still remains so that listening to that one special song over and over again makes it possible to get through the day. I'm just rambling at this point because listening to Pink Floyd always makes me feel so nostalgic, so whole. This band is so intrinsically tied into who I am that even when I haven't listened to them in over a year I can't ever renounce them as my favorite band. They have cemented themselves into my life forever it seems. Their use of sound is so layered and exciting and they are what really developed my interest in sound. At one point I had dreams of being an audio engineer. I gave up on that because I hated the idea of constantly seeking employment but also because I found trigonometry and simple harmonic motion to be the most tedious units in my physics and calculus classes. I went on to study linguistics and fell in love with phonetics. I didn't realise how enamored I became with phonetics until my professors pointed it out. I had remained under the delusion that phonology was my true calling, and yet I had taken just about every phonetics class that was offered at my uni. I participated in weekly spectrogram meetings, and became a research assistant where my role was to annotate countless spectrograms for my professor to the point that I would speak and could imagine the corresponding spectrogram. One of the final classes I took right before graduating was a hearing sciences class. That class changed my life, reintroduced the importance that sound has played my entire life. Back to when I was a kid with my Beatles CD and CD player playing the same song over and over and over. I was tired, everything felt pointless. I decided to pursue Audiology and somehow got in to the one program I successfully applied to despite what I felt was an awkward but authentic interview. In so many ways I have been extremely fortunate and privileged. I've done more than I have ever expected and listening to the arpeggios in The Final Cut again, the alternating audio in Not Now John, the snare in Two Suns in the Sunset. I wanted to kill myself a year ago and I would lie in bed listening to these same three songs and let the sound wash through me and quiet my thoughts down enough to sleep through another night. I cannot describe the joy I feel when I listen to my music, it is a full body experience. But I also know I need not describe it because it is a feeling many have experienced each in their own way. Anyways I guess I mean to say that it gets better and it's sweet to see your interests grow with you and form new memories, and even if they don't it can be sweet to revisit them and extend some love to your younger self

listening to time by pink floyd at 18 and then listening to it at 28 is kind of insane to be honest… LIKE OH SHIT 10 YEARS HAVE GOTTEN BEHIND ME AND NO ONE TOLD ME WHEN TO RUN AND I DEFINITELY MISSED THE STARTING GUN!!!!! also not gonna lie i’m terrified of the passage of time it gives me actual panic attacks to really think about!!!!! help 😅

what makes me lose my mind about the wall is that I could write up so many pretentious essays like "ah yes the concert is clearly a representation of antonin artaud's concept of the theatre of cruelty in its fostering of an atmosphere of unreality that forces the audience into an abject sense of collusion with violence". but the problem is I highly doubt that roger or anyone else involved in its production were thinking about it that hard. I'm obviously not denying that that they were conscious of their storytelling and staging choices but like, when they had the idea for the surrogate band they were not thinking about its deeply fucked ontological implications. they were thinking "haha remember that time you said you wished a fake band could play all the songs so you could go play golf instead let's do that" and all those ideas just organically snowballed into what is genuinely one of the most narratively complex musical performances ever conceived. how did that happen
I read some people complain about pink floyd fans leaving the fandom, I may have the answer of why:

Do you want to know what the boys were doing at any given date? Done, you have it.
Photos? Thousands. Books? Thousands. Very intimate information? You can find facts everywhere.
Now Pink Floyd? It’s mostly a mystery. Their private lives, (other than what is out in a few books) photos? Idk I feel like if you’ve been long enough in the fandom you’ve seen them all.
I think people get tired (not of the music) but the lack of information that it’s out there.
