Hi there, not an ask. Wanted to say I'm not particularly politically smart, nonetheless I'm always in awe at the connections you make about the acotar worldbuilding and real world politics. You also have a talent at articulating your thoughts well and keeping them objective, it's all very elegant and half the time I have to google shit but I learn something new every time you share and it's fun. Thank you.

Awe thanks! Im really glad that you're learning something new through my commentary! Honestly the fun in acotar for me is basically dissecting the series like a preserved sheep brain over anything else and I think it's important for readers/viewers of media to pay attention to what isn't explicitly being said in a piece of media, especially popular media. What's being pushed as normative, what an individual considers "normal" or "acceptable" influences the work that they make (even unconsciously) and that shapes culture and society at large (and said society ends up shaping the individuals to come out of it. It's a never ending cycle). So while I'll never yuck someone's yum, I do implore people to take a hard look at what is going on beyond the narrative and ask themselves "why would the author/ editors find this okay?"

Also I have a lot of experience analyzing and writing about fine art, print and even literature. When I was in college, I joined the editing team for a literary magazine my school published yearly (while I didn't stick around, that and my short story class was very formative for me) and uh, I think that aspect influences how I approach analyzing things tbh.

the thing about media literacy is that understanding why the author chose to specify that the curtains are blue is the same skill set as understanding that the way the author characterizes all black characters as angry or all chinese characters as meek and silent is racist. it is the same skill set as being able to identify when a news source is biased or when someone is feeding you propaganda. the ability to ask "why did this person choose to present this premise in this specific way?" is a critical skill in a world full of misinformation. why are the curtains blue? maybe it's a characterization detail. maybe it's extraneous worldbuilding. why is this character written as being right all the time? maybe you're intended to disagree with them. maybe it doesn't matter. maybe you should still ask why.
