watched swapped last night and it was pretty alright. i really enjoyed the art direction it was very princess mononoke meets rio which were both movies i enjoyed as a kid. the story and the characters were mid i was pretty unmoved by how generic the entire narrative ended up being not that i expected too much from a childrens movie but there are some hayao miyazakis out there so you never know what youre gonna get. the twist villain had be crying laughing i had to pause the movie to compose myself. overall 6/10

alot of bad writing advice on this site about world building specially assumes that everyone is writing the next fucking dune or lord of the ring or avatar or les mis and asks you to consider every detail of your how your world works and different cultures and keeping fantasy worlds consistent like dont say adrenaline or champagne when 90% of readers suspend their disbelief enough to not care.

if my fantasy story is set in the fantasy south, its grounded in reality to keep my focus as a writer to the details that are relevant. what the fuck do my readers care what the trade routes and festivals and political structure and religion are like in the north? the purpose of a story isnt to take a tour of the vivid mental landscape inside your brain its to tell a story. but yknow. if my characters dont wax poetic about the time they spent off screen in fantasy urugruay im a piece of shit imperialist

BBC Merlin is insane as a show. Its an adaptation of Arthurian mythos. It's inspired by CW's Smallville (this is 100% real look it up). it stars 4 unknown 20 somethings and British acting legends. It's aimed at kids and families. its a tragedy. Its campy as hell. It will make you cry. It asks you, like Merlin, to believe in the Golden age of Camelot. It never shows you that Golden age. Everyone in the show is the most beautiful person you'll ever see. people will clown on the CGI. Its one of the most homerotic shows of the 2000's. Its an on purpose allegory for queerphobia, but those allegorious queer characters are largely villains. If you watched it when you were 12 you will never quite be able to let it go. This is a curse. This is an experience you wouldn't give up for the world.
