What's in a deadName

My given name, my first-first name, is a representation of everything I wasn't meant to be. Its religious routes recall wounds that I have already celebrated healing. Its unmasked feminine touch is something I've never possessed beyond the name itself. As an adjective, it describes something delicate and graceful, two attributes that do not belong to the person I hid behind them. Now, the only ones who use it create space between us; gaps in our shared timeline.

I'm not the label that was imprinted on me, and how dare they demand I could be, after watching me suffer while trying.
