Duang is what happens when an undiagnosed autistic child is loved and accepted exactly as he is and supported by his family in everything he does including quit and never had to truly, deeply, innatrely mask. Qin is an undiagnosed autistic child who was neglected and ignored and unsupported who found that masking was the only way to survive and is only just starting to realize that he's been wearing a mask for most of his life to try and survive.

And when Duang meets Qin's parents and realize how little they know about their son he makes so many connections and when Qin meets Duang's parents and realizes how much they accept and love their son he makes just as many.

Together, they bring out the best in each other and prove that love and acceptance and patience are the truest super powers.

I love that Duang and Qin are autistic for autistic but opposite ends of the spectrum romance because it's perfect. Duang thinks outloud, takes everyone literally and at face value, doesn't read into anything, constantly moves and stims, big emotion is a big reaction and has absolutely never even heard of a poker face let alone had one. Qin internalizes everything, rarely expresses anything on his face, takes time to process everything silently, gets frustrated by big emotions, prefers solitude and silence, constantly self-isolating to soothe himself, slow to use words to express himself. They're just perfect together because they form such an amazing balance of love and respect and understanding. Because Duang might be an overenthusiastic puppy but he's also too much of a literal thinker to break a specifically requested boundary while also being too literal to be driven away by anything less and Qin is a tsundere because he takes so much time to process his own emotions but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel them just that he needs 1-2 business days to face them. It's perfect.

One of Khemjira screenwriters Jattawa quoted a tweet talk about Khemjira and they raised some interesting points, including Sinners (2025), that I would love to share with everyone!

"The thing that makes the fantasy in the Khemjira’s world different from other fantasy movies is (if not talking in a matter-of-fact way that because it comes from real-life cultures) animism of the people who were erased, abandoned by the mainstream narrative, were finally given a voice.

Similar to the animism in Sinners of African Americans, but in Khemjira, it is the Isan people.
