Hello! My name is JoAnne 🕊️✨

I am a 21 yo transfem/nonbinary queer balkan gal living in southern America! This is a blog to document my journey on small animal husbandry and rehabilitation ^.^

I am very much a novice, and have only had my mouse for about half a year

His name is Lenny and he is an intact male living solo currently! He is a rescue that was bonded with Algernon, his intact male partner who recently passed from old age.

Lenny gets lots of attention as I am a full time trade school student and I only have class three days out of the week in the hours he is usually sleeping

He is very lazy and not sociable, but I am slowly working him up to being more active and engaging more with me

My goal is to have a bioactive enclosure for him with lots of enrichment and tunnels

I would also like to adopt a horde of does and set up a multi-level bioactive enclosure once I am more comfortable with my knowledge of care for them, and may one day even get into breeding

I would love to one day care for rats and ferrets, but that is much further down the line when i have my own place and more room for them 🤍

not sure if youve posted this already, but could you show us a detailed view on the construction of the cage/enclosure itself that you use for your mice? i see its tagged as an ikea hamster cage but it also looks like youve done some personal add ons :0

i'm so glad u asked! so I actually followed a youtube tutorial by VanillaHamHam to make the cage itself. I recently made a lid based off one I saw on a mouse forum, I had to draw up my own blueprints which was a pain since I never really done that before and I used sketch up for the first time which took me hours. I'm not sure if I still have the measurements, I know it adds 30cm in height.

I'll make a full post on the process as soon as I can. I'm pretty busy and I have to dig up some old WIP pictures so it might be a hot minute before its up. Thank you.

I don’t think you can support advocating for improved animal husbandry & ethical animal keeping WITHOUT being against capitalism. the sheer number of companies that see animals as profit margins and therefor don’t actually give a shit is simply horrifying. profit will always come before welfare in their eyes.
