Another birthday come and gone. At this point in my life they're more like any other day off, but I've got a job and I couldn't have asked for anything better this year.

Boss Lady Time

So it looks like I’m gonna be starting a new job on Monday. I’m excited, nervous and relieved. It’s a job that I am not familiar with in the way that transitioning from one grocery store chain to another would have been an easy acclimation for me. This is something that I have never done before. No longer will I be wearing jeans and tee shirts to work everyday, but I will be dressed in a professional manor and THAT is something that I am not used to... but it won’t take me long to adjust! I went out and bought myself professional work attire and am going to clean a bunch more shit out of my closet (because I have run out of room and hangers-again). I will not be the one who takes orders from those who consider themselves my superiors, as I am now the one who will be giving the orders. I will be in charge of the day to day operations, hiring and training new employees, and everything that comes with my new title... “Airport Operations Manager”

While I must admit that I am a bit nervous, I am ready for a new chapter in my life and I think this will be a great one. If nothing else, it will be a much more fashionable learning experience.

Life goes on

So I am on a mission to find a new path to take my career. I believe that I may have found a new place to take my talents. A place that will appreciate me and encourage me to grow professionally without attempting to hinder my success because they don’t like my personality. It will be a nice change from the last 18 months that I worked. No longer will I be harassed, insulted and belittled by those who think that their privileged existence makes them a ‘better’ person than I am. You’d think that an entire upbringing and education based on their religious beliefs and centered in their faith would have taught them that their God does not like ugliness, and no matter how they dress up their ugly on the outside it won’t cover the horrid person that they are inside.

MARCH 21 - SALLY RIDE

While studying for her master’s degree in physics at Stanford University, Sally Ride answered a call in the student newspaper for individuals interested in joining a space program. She joined NASA in 1978 and became the first American woman to travel in space, and to this day, she remains the youngest American to do so.

Journalists did not exactly deal with Ride’s gender with grace, asking her such foolish questions as "Will the flight affect your reproductive organs?" and "Do you weep when things go wrong on the job?" However, she was determined to rise above their ignorant questions and prove herself in her field.

Ride helped develop the space shuttle’s robot arm and was the only person asked to participate in committees investigating the Challenger and Columbia space disasters. She eventually left NASA in 1987 to work for the Stanford University Center for International Security and Arms Control, becoming a professor of physics at the University of California, San Diego two years later and acting as the director of the California Space Institute.

Ride developed several programs to energize elementary and middle school students - particularly younger girls - to learn about science and space. She wrote or co-wrote a total of seven children’s books on the topics, often collaborating with her life partner of 27 years, Tam O’Shaughnessy. Their relationship was kept a secret until Ride’s death in 2012, though once confirmed by both her sister and publishing company, it made her the first known LGBT astronaut in history.

Another lazy Sunday

Though I slept until almost noon, when you consider that I was awake until almost 0600 it kinda diminishes the thrill. I did manage to be productive before going to sleep and later this afternoon, but nothing too strenuous. I did some stuff on the computer for my hubby before playing uno in bed till my eyes hurt. After 2 cups of coffee and a shower this afternoon, I cleaned off my vanity before making myself some more eye makeup remover, setting spray, and a couple bottles of natural household cleaner. I even organized my sewing and crafty space, washed dishes and made dinner... Maybe it wasn't so lazy after all😝

it’s important that we pay tribute to Leelah and Zander, but it’s also important that we pay tribute to the five trans women of color murdered in 2015 so far. I have seen next to nothing about these women. They are just as important as Leelah or Zander. They deserve the same recognition. They deserve the same respect. Remember their names.
