Jake Sisko is such a good character. He loves his friends and family so much. He taught his best friend to read. He has literally zero interest in joining Starfleet. He introduced his dad to his future wife. He’s often experiencing writer’s block. He isn’t some grand hero, he’s just a person – a deeply kind, compassionate person whose presence in the show echoes with simultaneously grief and joy. Grief for who he has lost, for the tragedy that defines the beginning of his character arc as much as it does his father’s, and for the constant lingering threat throughout DS9 of future grief, of losing what he has now. Joy for the happiness of the present – spending time with his friends, drawing artistic inspiration from the world around him, fully and completely enjoying life.
