Eugene Fitzherbert was born to King Edmund and his wife, rulers of the Dark Kingdom, as Horace. During his infancy, the kingdom was corrupted by the powerful moonstone that threatened to destroy their land. To protect his subjects from the opal’s destructive power, King Edmund ordered for a kingdom-wide evacuation. This included his son Eugene, as much as it broke his heart to part with his son. Eugene never knew the truth of his lineage. He grew up believing that his parents were fearless adventurers traveling the world to make names for themselves. He was brought to an orphanage in the kingdom of Corona by a servant for his safety. Sure it wasn’t perfect but he had a roof over his head, three meals a day and a nice warm bed. What else could a guy ask for? Since he was the oldest (and perhaps the longest residence) Eugene took it upon himself to be the older brother figure to the other kids. They all looked up to him. All the boys wanted to be just as brave as Eugene one day and all the girls would squeal with delight when he walked by. Around the orphanage Eugene was a rebel. He constantly disobeyed the owners and was always getting himself into trouble. He liked living on the edge and following his own rules. Which of course never sat well with his caregivers. The boy was always more trouble than he was worth but they simply couldn’t just throw him out on the streets. So, instead they put Eugene to work. While the other kids had free time to play and do activities that loved Eugene could always be found doing endless chores. It was the only way his caregivers could get the boy to behave. There was was a story that Eugene often read to the younger orphans called The Tales of Flynn Rider. The man was a robin hood of his time. He had endless riches and wasn’t too bad with the ladies. The more Eugene read the book the more he realized that the life that Flynn was living was the one he wanted for himself. He wanted to be showered with riches and women. Hell, he wanted a castle to himself and to be able to give back to all the orphans he lived with. While he wanted a better life for him he also wanted a better life for the kids he had grown to love. Living in a orphanage your entire life wasn’t ideal and Eugene didn’t want these kids to endure what he did. The night after his seventeenth birthday Eugene had planned to escape the orphanage to start his new adventure. Once he left the walls of the orphanage Eugene Fitzherbert turned into a distant memory, the boy started going by Flynn Rider. Not only because he wanted to be more like his hero, but also he down right hated his name. Though he never scorned his parents, whoever the hell the were, for giving him such a god awful name, Eugene always used to go by Fitz before the name change. Life as Flynn Rider wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be. He was homeless now, dirt poor and struggling. Giving looked like the best option but Flynn was a stubborn one. He refused to give up and admit defeat. So of course he pushed forward with his plans to become the Flynn he had read in that books years ago.
Things started to turn around when he stumbled upon a small bar in the outskirts of town called the snuggly duckling. Now don’t let the name fool you folks, this bar was home to the meanest, cruelest and deadliest criminals around. Entering there as practically a death wish yet Flynn knew if he was ever going to become great at stealing for the poor he had to learn from the best. Like everything else he had endured, it wasn’t easy. The criminals within the bar laughed in Flynn’s face when he entered the room yelling that he wanted to be a thief. How could a scrawny, clueless kid like him ever become a criminal? It was almost idiotic of him to think he could be such a thought. Most laughed off Flynn’s request to be taught. He thought his journey as Flynn had ended before it even started before a man named Lance Strongbow came to him saying he’d happily teach him. Flynn thought it was a joke but to his surprise Lance saw a lot of himself in Flynn. Thus, Lance took Flynn under his wing and taught him the ropes of being a thief. In no time Flynn had become one of the best thief in Corona. He conned people out of their belongings and left a trail of broken hearts wherever he went. There was nothing he couldn’t steal and nothing was safe - not even the royal jewels. As time went on the the two became as close as brothers, and considered themselves family. After all Lance was all that Flynn had now. The man was the only family he ever needed from that point on. The one time Flynn was hoping that lady luck was on his side turned out to be the biggest blow of his career. Letting his ego get the best of himself, Flynn vowed to Lance that he could steal from one of the richest families in Corona without getting caught. Lance warned Flynn that even that was risky - even for them. But Flynn never listened as per usual and didn’t heed Lance’s warning. Flynn might have gotten into the house with ease and getting into the master bedroom where all their riches were located? Oh that was a piece of cake. The only thing Flynn hadn’t been anticipating was the alarm system going off. Let alone the security cameras catching him red handed in the act. He barely escaped without the cops finding him. Yet, Flynn knew well enough he wasn’t home free in the slightest. Flynn ran straight for the woods. There he believed the cops wouldn’t be able to find him. And he was right, because as he ran Flynn stumbled upon the house in its hidden forest alcove. He believed that the home was abandoned and could take shelter there until the police lost his trail. Little did he know the resident who inhabited the place had big plans for him. Having an unknown stranger in her home startled the girl which caused her to knock Flynn out with her hairbrush. Once Flynn awoke he was face to face with a beautiful blonde maiden, staring at him intently. Flynn tried to win her over with his signature smolder to let him go but the blonde didn’t budge. Instead she asked, well demanded, that Flynn be her guide into the city to see the lights that were happening. She promised to pay him a substantial sum, taken from the family fortune, and would not tell the police about his whereabouts. Flynn was uneasy about the deal. How could he possibly trust some nutcase who lived in the woods? But Flynn was in desperate need to money so he reluctantly to break Reagan free and take her to see the lights. It was an adventure of a lifetime that only lasted three days. But those three days was the most Reagan had ever felt alive. Flynn took her all over the city. Showing her the world she had been hidden from all these years. It was an eye opening experience. At first he was annoyed by the girl. All Flynn wanted was his money so he could leave. Many times he thought about ditching Reagan and fleeing with the money.
That was before he found himself falling for the girl. It’s not like Flynn had a lot of experience with girls or genuine feelings. He often hopped from person to person before intense emotions arose. Reagan was different in more ways than one. She seemed to like him for him - even if he had nothing to his name. Fake and real. She was pure and for that reason Flynn didn’t want to taint her. He wasn’t exactly the best guy around and someone as wonderful as Reagan deserved a great guy. As much as he wanted it to be him he knew that was possible. So, he pushed whatever feelings he had for Reagan away and insisted on just being her guide. He had to show her the lights and then he’d get his money. That’s what the deal was. Their journey soon became complicated once Gothel found the two. She knew Reagan had escaped and tracked down her daughter intending on taking her home. Flynn wasn’t about to let Gothel lock Reagan away again. She wasn’t some caged bird anymore. She was free now and Flynn intended on keeping it that way. Of course Reagan refused and Flynn wasn’t giving up without a fight either. That is until he heard a loud boom crack above them and a white hot pain in his side following that. Gothel had taken it upon herself to become the bad guy and to make Reagan cooperate with her she shot Flynn with a hand rifle that she carried around. Gothel promised Reagan he was fine, for the time being as long as she agreed to come with her and if she refused she would kill Flynn. It was a fate Flynn was okay with though. As much as Reagan pleaded with him to let her go he refused to. He would have much rather die than see Reagan waste away in that house another day. Luckily, Flynn had called the police earlier after an encounter with Gothel prior to them seeing the lights. He knew her true intentions and even if it meant he’d be in jail it would be worth it to have Reagan safe. Gothel was taken into custody, Flynn the hospital in critical condition. Flynn had welcomed death at that point. His mind was at ease knowing that Reagan was going to live a happy life. And although he never got the riches he wanted as a child he had found a treasure far more better than that - he found love. Flynn didn’t think he was going to make it but by some miracle and good doctors he survived, The police were more than aware of Flynn’s history and while he should have been thrown into jail he wasn’t. Instead Flynn was sent to Walt University instead. Why? because Reagan needed him and they believed that Flynn would be able to leave his life of crime behind and become a model citizen while living in the city of Elias. It was the second chance he needed and Flynn certainly wasn’t going to screw this up.
