Today's breaky
Traditional oats made with fat free soy milk, currants, sweetener and fresh strawberries. yum! totals: ~220 cal.
If this doesn't scare you straight I'm not sure what will..
Movie theatre popcorn: It may seem obvious, given the size, but for many of us it's a key part of the movie-going experience, and besides, even if you order a bag once a week, how bad can that be? Very. Movie theater popcorn is already about 1,200 calories, almost all from carbohydrates (and a whopping 580mg of sodium) for a large-sized bag. That's before you add the butter. Don't waste an entire day's worth carbs and calories while you mindlessly munch your way through The Hunger Games...
Love popcorn and don't think you can live without it? Try natural and plain, homemade air poped popcorn. Add cinnamon for a fun twist on the classic.

Today's lunch
Toasted rye bread topped with cheese, spinach, avocado & tuna. I use Atlantic Special Rye (see shopping list), Kraft singles free, 1/2 cup spinach, 1/4 of an avocado and half a can of John West light tuna in springwater. Comes to 175 cal - delicious and nutritious!
massive snack - seriously healthy..
Just read this in the Madison Health & Fitness. I thought you'd all be interested as I certainly was! Have a read, it's worth it.
Dieting vs. exercise The best method to losing weight is under constant debate. A new study, published in the PLoS One journal, puts the age old question of diet versus exercise to the test, with diet coming out on top. Anthropologists travelled to Tanzania to study volunteers from the Hadza tribe, a tribe who still live by hunting and gathering. Volunteers were fitted with GPS units to measure how many miles they walked over a course of 11 days. They also drank “doubly labelled water,” a liquid in which the normal hydrogen and oxygen molecules have been replaced with molecules containing tracers, enabling the researchers to measure the energy expenditure and metabolic rate. They then compared the results from the Hadza tribe against the same measures for an average male and female Westerner. A common assumption is that a hunter-gatherer lifestyle involves considerable physical activity and therefore burns more calories, and it is true that Hadza people are more active. However, results showed they don’t necessarily burn more calories. Their metabolic rate was about the same as the “average” Westerner. So sadly for us, physical activity on its own is not going to make and keep you slim – your diet is essential.
currently trialling a cranberry & oats cookie recipe!
If all goes to plan & they don't taste like cardboard, they should be about 50 cal each!!

Falafels
Very excited to try this recipe I came across today. Let me know if any of you try it! It's a great looking one. Comes to 240cal per serve or 60 per ball!!
Ingredients: 1 tbs olive oil 2 eschalots, finely chopped 1 tsp cumin seeds 1 tsp ground cumin 1 tsp ground coriander 1 cups peas (300g fresh or 240g frozen) 1 cup mint leaves 1 cup coriander leaves 400g can chickpeas, drained, rinsed 1 egg 1 cup (70g) fresh breadcrumbs Sunflower oil, to deep-fry
Method: Heat olive oil in a frypan over medium heat. Add the eschalot and cook, stirring, for 2-3 minutes until softened. Add spices and stir for 30 seconds until fragrant. Cook peas in boiling salted water (5 minutes for fresh or 1 for frozen) until just tender. Drain, refresh in cold water, then drain. Place peas in a processor with eschalot mixture, herbs, chickpeas, egg and crumbs. Season, then process to a coarse paste. Using your hands, form into 20 walnut-sized balls. Chill for 30 minutes. Half-fill a frying pan with sunflower oil and heat to 190°C (a cube of bread will turn golden in 30 seconds when oil is hot enough). Fry felafel in batches for 1-2 minutes until golden and crisp, turn them over to cook all sides. Drain on paper towel & enjoy in a salad with spinach and lemon juice.
