Shirbert Love Languages

I’d like to know what you guys think Anne and Gilbert’s love languages are. I think Gilbert’s main two are physical touch and quality time. I think the former because Anne’s embrace brought him visible comfort and a strength to not only endure Mary’s tragedy but also to support Bash through his grief; the latter because he values and prioritizes time with his family as seen when his father was still alive and at the end of season two when he explains to Anne that he wants to be home with Bash and Mary.

Regarding Anne’s love language I also think she has two main ones: words of affirmation and quality time. It’s likely very obvious why I suspect these love languages for Anne—so many years without a family, without unconditional love, without true friendship, without a home could understandably cause one to cherish the gift of time spent with those they love who, finally, love in return. Along with Anne’s deprivation of connection and love would come a lack of praise, support, and encouragement which would explain why Anne feels loved by words (and acts) of affirmation. Matthew (then Marilla) believing in her intellect, adoring her enthusiasm, appreciating her strong work ethic/determination/strong will, and admiring her love of nature was her first real experience of what it feels like to be loved.
