A snow blanketed night. Returning to a cold, empty room which is covered in you but has none of. . . you.
Crunch.
Your heart stops. Your fingers twist in the bedsheets. Are those eggs?
“Heathcliff.” The name is a whispered prayer. A call into the cosmos for the one who could heal the rift in your soul.
The very next thing you know, your footsteps are crunching through the frozen snow and gooseflesh covers your arms. “Heathcliff?” You can’t shout. Not yet. Not when it all seems so. . . surreal. The tall stone crags looming in the fog seem more like villainous hiding spots for the very man who left all those years ago.
“Heathcliff?” Louder now. For the man who has held every thought since your childhood captive.
“Heath-!” Your breath catches. A lone figure in the fog. Tall. Strong. “Oh.” Your world spins as he steps closer.

“Anakin is. . .”
Sitting in the newly blooming meadow on the outskirts of the city is your best friend. And he won’t-
“Shut up!” You shout, rolling your eyes. You meet his gaze, bright and full of amusement. His own crystal blue eyes, pupils blown, search your face for any real annoyance. “I do not want to kiss Val Donnar.” But your pinked cheeks reveal otherwise.
Val Donnar is a rising politician who took a liking to you at the charity gala. The one where Anakin met her, again. But Val Donnar. . . he’s passably attractive, and you enjoyed the attention. He isn’t the reason your cheeks are heating though. Anakin is sitting approximately four inches from you. You can practically feel the heat radiating off him, hear every thought in his head, feel every lingering look.
“You liar, you definitely do. You’re acting like you’re twelve.” Anakin rolls his eyes, grinning. Only, it doesn’t quite reach his eyes. “And you’re blushing, you never blush.” His tone is clear — the second greatest Jedi ever, as Anakin likes to remind you, Y/n L/n, toppled by a little crush on some guy she just met.
“He’s not the reason I’m blushing.” You shake your head, speaking before you even realize what you’ve said. Your heart drops as he pauses. You smile, keeping up the act, standing and brushing your robes off. Like you’re trying to escape.
Anakin jumps up after you, voice carrying as he jogs after you, cutting you off where you stand. He’s so. . . Close. And now his hands are on your forearms, his smile seemingly miles wide as he cockily asks, “Then what is it? Why are you really blushing like a schoolgirl?” He’s gloating.
“Shut up Anakin!” Your cheeks burn brighter, and you really do feel like a schoolgirl. But then again, when have you not felt like that around him? He’s been your best friend for years, and he’s never failed to just make your stomach do acrobatic tricks. “None of your business.” You murmur, but when his fingers squeeze almost imperceptibly tighter, just momentarily to get your attention, and you look up into his eyes. . . You could have sworn you saw your emotions mirrored perfectly. Time stands still, mesmerized. His eyes flit over your face, thumbs brushing your soft, smooth skin.
But the moment your head tilts up, the moment you think it’s all going to come crashing down around you. . . The transport ship arrives. Reminding you of what’s really happening. He’s going to guard Senator Amidala, the girl he never truly stopped thinking about. Her. You look away, taking a deep, cleansing breath as you back up. “That really is none of your business, Skywalker.” But your voice is too loud, chuckle too forced, in the previous calm of the meadow. The tension, what almost was. It all lingers within the six inches separating you.
“Anakin is hurt. . .”
You grace the steps with your presence, dripping in elegance and class. Anakin’s eyes are wide, smiling softly as you descend the staircase. A stunner in light orange. He flounders for a moment as you reach the bottom.
“Who knew you could look like anything but a bum?” He tries to tease, but his heart’s not in it. He can’t take his eyes off you, and a small. . . Okay, a very large, part of you is extremely satisfied. That same blush from months ago paints your cheeks.
“Yeah, yeah, let’s just get this over with.” You smile softly, playfully pushing him along. His suit tie is a hunter’s green, different but. . . well suited.
The mission is simple: Observe and gather information on Senator Palpatine. The council suspects something is amiss, so they’ve sent you two to see what you can hear.
You enter the ballroom, too close to be protocol, surely. He stands almost protectively in front of you, half shielding you from the prying eyes of the room. The revelry continues, and with it your patience dwindles. Nothing has happened. You’ve heard nothing, suspected nothing besides the fact that Anakin may have been right about Val Donnar.
He approaches as Anakin is trying to brief with you, something about Padmé and her. . . something. You aren’t really paying attention, the pit in your stomach when you hear her name basically renders you useless.
So when Val offers his hand with a charming smile, you squeeze Anakin’s arm dismissively, and allow Val to lead you out to the center of the floor. He twirls you. He’s charming, and makes you laugh. He’s everything a gentleman should be. But when he spins you once more, brings you back to his chest. . . There he is. Anakin. Just watching. His eyes full of longing, words unspoken and a million shattered moments.
“. . .Get back to Coruscant.”
“She kissed me.” Anakin’s words are a shock to your system, blurted out in the dead of night.
“She what?” You ask, trying to sound casual. But your voice is breathy and panicked, and he can most definitely tell that your heart is in your stomach. You sit straight up, still sweating from a late night training session that you most definitely did not use as an excuse to see him without a shirt and sweaty from exertion. . .
“Padmé kissed me earlier.” He repeats, sitting up onto his elbows, eyes searching yours, trying to figure out what is is you’re thinking. “She just, she told me that she shouldn’t and then she did.”
Your palms are sweating. She kissed Anakin? She kissed your best friend. Anakin. Processing this must take longer than you realized, because he’s looking at you like you’re crazy. “Y/n?”
Your eyes snap to his, and you try to laugh it off. “Oh, this is good. You’re in a secret relationship with a senator, Anakin. I knew it, I just knew it.” Your laugh is too loud, forced, the tension palpable. Your discomfort with the thought evident — he knows you far too well, he can sense the disbelief, the anxiety, the hurt, the anger. But when you finally look, really look, he doesn’t look happy.
“I didn’t kiss her back.” He suddenly says. Your stomach drops, and you can’t help the relief flooding your system.
“You didn’t? Why? I thought you liked her?” Your brows furrow in confusion. He sits up, eyes searching your face. Your fingers twitch toward him, like your subconscious is reading the situation better than you. The next words out of his mouth make your heart race, and then the moment is over before you know it.
“He. . . May not make it, y/n.”
Your world comes to a complete stop. Your heart might, as well. Standing before you is Obi-Wan. “What- Anakin is, he’s hurt?” You breathe out, frozen. “What- what happened?”
It’s like you’re paralyzed, you can’t process anything except the blood curdling fear racing through your veins.
“He was in a battle against Count Dooku and his arm was severed. He’s lost a lot of blood and right now we don’t know if he’s going to make it.” Obi-Wan’s voice wavers with concern, squinting through the rain. “You must come with me.”
“But- my assignment.” You aren’t thinking straight, the anxiety swirls and crowds your mind.
Six months ago, you and Anakin were sent to different planets. This was to be expected, eventually. What you didn’t expect though, was that you wouldn’t see your best friend for months after this separation. You missed him dearly. And you hated your assignment, you were a glorified doorman for some pompous king and all you could think about was how much you wanted to see Anakin. How much you regret not kissing him that day.
You rush onto the ship anyways. Not giving a second thought to your assignment.
Obi-Wan follows closely as your rain-soaked form practically breaks through anything separating you from leaving.
—
The trip is short, an hour. You find yourself standing on the cusp of his room.
“I don’t like her. I love you.” His words are shocking. He’s staring right into your soul, or he might as well be. He purses his lips nervously, his fingers tracing the veins in your hand, like he always has. “Please, say something Y/n.”
You start to lean to his touch. “I-”
“Y/n, Anakin,” Obi-Wan’s voice rings clear through the training room and you jolt apart. “The council has sent me to collect you. They have new assignments for the both of you.”
“I should’ve kissed you anyways.” You murmur, forgetting all about Obi-Wan standing behind you. His limp, drained form. The metal and his flesh meeting in a grueling scar. His soft hair, softer lips. He’s so. . . sweet, just laying there. None of the edge, none of the normal teasing bite to his words.
You don’t even realize when Obi-Wan walks away, leaving you just. . . standing there, useless. The soft beep of the heart monitor, the hum of the silver in his arm forging new bonds with his nerves. It’s unsettling. And heartbreaking.
“Anakin?” You whisper into the room, taking a hesitant step forward. “Anakin, wake up. Please.”
But he doesn’t. He lays there, unmoving, on death’s doorstep.
You stay there for hours, by his side, holding his hand.
“They don’t know how long this assignment will last, Anakin.” You had whispered. “We can’t. . . I,” It breaks your heart to say this. Obi-Wan must suspect something, catching you so close, leaving so suddenly. “We have to just stay friends, it’s for the best.” His eyes are enough by themselves to make you regret even opening your mouth.
The heart monitor speeds up suddenly, jolting you from sleep. You look around in panic. “Anakin?” You shake him, “Anakin!”
People in uniforms rush into the room, pushing you out of the way, leaving you panicked in the corner. Heart beating wildly, nails clawing at your palms like that’s going to fix anything.
They start CPR. Pounding on his chest. Sinking in further than what should be possible, right? Are they hurting him? Are they doing—?
Beep. . . Beep. . . Beep. . .
You can breathe again.
He can breathe again, therefore you can.
His eyes open slowly, and you want to scream your thanks to the sky. The uniformed employees shuffle out after about fifteen agonizingly long minutes of testing. As soon as they do, you’re frozen again.
“I thought you were dead.” You whisper, voice cracking with emotion.
“I didn’t think you’d come.” He murmurs back, sitting up. He glances down at his metal arm, and he flinches almost imperceptibly.
“Of course I did.” You catch wind of coherent thought as the adrenaline slows, and you shakily sit on the edge of the cot. “You’re my best friend.” You don’t bother asking why he thought that — it was tense, you tried to keep going like normal, but after his confession and your. . . rejection, it was hard. Awkward. Your fingers dance over his silver arm. You lean in and hug him around the neck, solid and grasping for any contact you can get. You love him. But does he still feel the same? Would he even want to hear what you had to say? Would he accept your feelings, or has he already made peace? The thought makes your pulse jump in anxiety.
But. . . its better to know than to ask it for the rest of your life, right?
So you pull away, shaking, hand pressed to the side of his face. “I should’ve kissed you anyways. No matter who saw.” The words are no longer whispered from the very edge of the room. They’re murmured right before you do just that.
Soft lips against yours, reverent but so, so scared. Gentle hands on your back, holding you to him. A million shattered moments.

"Oh, come on!" You cried, cursing your luck. You had just lost the last of your credits to a slime ball who you just knew had cheated or slipped a card up one of his many fat rolls. You threw your cards down on the table, "Help a girl out? That was my dinner!"
It just muttered something in an alien language which you didn't have a chance at understanding.
Your eyebrows kinked together, "Huh?" The creature just grumbled, glaring at you, and shook his head no.
Damn it. Third night in a row, I really gotta stop playing with cheating dirt bags.
You went to find your friend since birth (almost), Zola. He was quite the charmer, but you had known him almost all your eighteen years. He was a goofball once you got to know him, but the "ladies" were normally gone by then. You were one in the same, though you didn't sleep around quite as much. You were more into the flirting, the game of it all.
You shoved past the people that crowded the casino of Coruscant, fighting off a few wandering hands on the way. That was to be expected though, you were a beautiful girl surrounded by drunk idiots. Didn't make it okay, but you expected it.
Despite that, Coruscant was where you felt the most at home, alive. Something about the bustling streets and abundance of people made you feel secure.
Ah, finally. There he is.
You had spotted Zola chatting up a girl, no surprise there, while he tossed a pair of dice on the green felt table. You heard the crowd yell, and then Zola whispering in the ear of the girl. Probably something like calling her a "lucky charm." You had seen it all.
You decided to leave him to his tricks, and get a drink. Possibly start up another game of poker with a group of folks you know can't pay back. You leaned against the counter, "Hey, barkeep, what do I gotta do to get a drink around here?" You asked with a wink to the girl and a grin on your face.
"Well first," she turned, "my name is Chip. And second, you have to have something to pay me with." She looked you up and down, a judging look on her face.
You spread your hands, raising your brows, "Well, that's debatable, Chip. Guy says he didn't cheat, but you know how people 'round these parts are."
She gave you a small smile, "Well then I'm afraid you can't have a drink then, sweetheart." You scrunched your nose, "Damn. Oh well, worth a shot." You said with a shrug, and turned around to go collect Zola's money. He was much better at Craps than you. But as you turned around, you collided head first into a wall of black and felt something cold running down the front of your shirt.
"I'm sorry about that." The man said. You shook your head, aggravated, "It's fine. Excuse me," you said, pushing past him and heading towards Zola.
You walked towards him, tapping him on the shoulder, distracting him from his game. "We have to go, some guy spilled his drink on me." He turned around, a dazed look on his face. You sighed, aggravated.
"Come on, Zola. We have to go. Get your shit snd let's get out of here."
"Why, Y/n?" He whined, "I'm having fun with Gentry."
"It's Gia." She slurred, leaning over his lap to look at you and giving you a big grin.
"Nice to meet ya, Gia. I have to take your boy toy home now. Big day tomorrow." You gave her a tight lipped smile, of which you lied right through. Big day, my ass.
You grabbed Zola by his tunic, dragging him off the stool. That was when you noticed the people watching you, waiting for you to continue the game or drag odd the man that was screwing them out of their money. "We're collecting." Is what you said to the Dealer Bot, he nodded in response and transferred the money to the account Zola had programmed.
"That is 600 credits to your friend Zola's account, miss" Your eyes went wide, nodding your head. Nice job Zola, you thought.
You thanked the droid and dragged Zola towards the exit. "C'mon, Y/n/n, you could've at least let me say goodbye." You rolled your eyes, knowing if he said "goodbye" then he would have ended up in her bed, regretting everything.
"No, Zola." You said, but as you were walking out the door, you ran into a familiar face... Er, well, chest.
"Can you watch where you're going? Kinda busy here, might wanna get out."
Your eyes flared up in anger, "You're the one who spilled your drink on me!" You yelled. "This is a grey shirt, your drink was lime green! You better find a way to pay me back." You glared at him.
"Again, I'm really sorry about that. But I have to go." He looked over the top of your head, evidently for someone. He wasn't paying attention at all, your words went in one ear and out the other.
"I'm talking to you." You said impatiently, grabbing onto Zola's shirt when he tried to wander back off.
"Listen, I'm sorry." He was looking at you now, and he was not happy. He was panicked and worried about whoever he was looking for. "But I'm looking for someone important, now take your boyfriend and get out of here before something bad happens." You scoffed, crossing your arms.
"First," you cocked your head to the side. "He isn't my boyfriend. And second, is that a threat?!" You all but yelled again, getting ready to defend yourself if needed.
"No, someone dangerous is here and we're trying to find him. But I can't do that because Obi-Wan is missing." Your eyes widened in realization. He was a Jedi. You recognized the name — Obi-Wan.
Those guys were awesome. But this one was a jerk. Maybe.
"Whatever. I still want another shirt. You've gone and stained this one."
"Later." He was distracted again, being as polite as he could as he squeezed past you in the doorway. You squinted your eyes at him, but opted out of whatever he was involved in. If what he said was true, and he was likely telling the truth, then someone dangerous was here. And you were just about caught up between it all.
Zola saw your ship before you did, and went running off, stumbling a couple times, towards the ship. That was when you heard light footsteps behind you. The Jedi's words rang out like a siren in your head, 'someone dangerous is here.'
You sped up, holding your head high and balling up your fists'.
You heard them speed up, but maybe it was just your imagination. You hoped it was just your imagination.
But then you couldn't move. Your legs felt like they were glued to the ground, no matter how much you struggled. You couldn't move. "Help!" You screamed. "Help me!"
You heard then directly behind you now. "Quiet." They hissed. And then you couldn't open your mouth. Your face was frozen in fear, mouth closed but eyes a silent cry for help. Their fingers were cold as they trailed down your arm, you jerked away from him, shoulder hitting his mouth. You saw his face. His twisted, scarred face. Yet underneath, you could see the youthful beauty it once held. You recognized him from a broadcast you saw a month ago. Ethbren, a Jedi turned Sith. Your eyes widened in fear. He had killed many Jedi Masters, Padawans, and younglings. Not to mention the numerous civilians he had captured and tortured until they submitted to him and pledged themselves to the dark side.
Your head snapped back towards your ship, where you could see Zola clambering up the steps. You wished he was sober, maybe he would look over here and come help you. Instead you were left to struggle against the man's icy grip.
He was dragging you to his ship. You tried to kick him, but he stopped you every time. But you didn't stop struggling against him. Just seconds later, you saw two people burst through the doors of the casino, it was the man who spilled his drink on you and an older one who you recognized as Obi-Wan Kenobi. You struggled even harder against Ethbren, trying once again to scream for them, but to no avail.
But they spotted you anyways, and started sprinting towards you. Or maybe it was just towards the former Jedi they had waited so long to capture.
Ethbren saw them, and shoved you up the stairs onto his ship, but you just planted yourself on the steps. Lashing out when he tried to move you, it delayed him nearly none.
He kicked you onto the ship, and closed the hatch, you beat against it as he walked towards the captain's area. He had released his hold on you now that you were on the ship, because now you couldn't escape. You were beating on the door, looking out the small circle window towards the two Jedi's who were now only separated from you by inches. They took out their lightsabers and they motioned for you to back up, and to distract Ethbren you started yelling at him instead.
"How dare you kidnap me!" You screamed as you walked away from the door and towards the cockpit. "I'll have your head once I'm out of here. You hear me you egg tin? You're dead!" He ignored you, so you decided to keep screaming profanities.
"You fucking piece of shit, you hear me egg tin? You slimy piece of worm-ridden filth! You let me go right now or I'll sick Zola on you!" You spat on his control panel, just to piss him off. That last part was not a lie, once Zola sobered up and found out about this, he would raise hell.
Ethbren spun out of his chair quicker than you could blink, and backed you up against the wall. "You're going to sick your boyfriend on me? Or is he your dog?"
"He's not either one you dungcreeper." You shoved him away from you, making him crash into his little seat once again. You turned back towards the door where you found the Jedi's had broken through the door, well, cut through. You broke out into a grin for the first time that night. They looked shocked, impressed, even. Though for what you weren't sure.
"Guess what, you're not the only one with tricks." He growled from the cockpit, and immediately you felt your throat closing, air barely able to escape and you looked at the two Jedi who, without a seconds hesitation, broke out into action. They twisted around you towards Ethbren, who when he saw the two Jedi's, flung you across the room.
You hit a wall, and you felt a stinging sensation above your eye. You tried standing, but you got dizzy. You took a deep breath and stood up. You brought a hand up to your eyebrow, and it hurt when you touched it, and came back red.
A yell brought your attention back to the fighting group. Ethbren had been stabbed through his leg with the lightsaber, and fell to the floor on his knees.
"Surrender, Ethbren. You've hurt too many people." Obi-Wan glanced over at his partner, and without a word passing between the two, the man turned and walked towards you, retracting his lightsaber. You wiped the trickle of warm blood that had ran down just a little bit away from your eye and onto your shirt. It was ruined anyways. What was a little blood?
"Are you okay?" He asked, wincing at the cut on your forehead. He started to usher you out of the ship and onto solid ground again, leaving Obi-Wan to arrest Ethbren.
"I'm okay." But your voice came out hoarse and sore.
"I'll get you a new shirt. It's not a big deal." He smiled at you, making you shake your head.
"It's alright." You rubbed at your throat, still sore. You gave him a small smile as you reached the door of the casino. You really should be getting on your ship and leaving. But you couldn't bring yourself to.
"I'm Anakin." He said after a moment of an awkward silence. "You're Y/n?" You raised your eyebrows at him, how the hell did he know that? You dabbed at your eyebrow with you ruined shirt, patting away the blood.
"I overheard you and your friend in the casino." You let out a small, "Oh," and nodded.
Thankfully, Obi-Wan came out, holding the traitor in chains. "Anakin!" He yelled, "Come here." Anakin glanced at you before jogging to Obi-Wan. He started speaking to him, and you sat on the ground, still somewhat in shock. You knocked the tips of your shoes together as you stared at the ground. You didn't even notice the trio walking up to you until they scared you half to death.
You glanced up, taking in a sharp breath when you saw them standing over you. "Jeez. Say something next time." You laughed as you stood up.
"I'll get you, bitch." Ethbren snapped. You rolled your eyes.
"I'll hold you to that." You gave a fake grin.
"Thank you for you assistance, Y/n." Obi-Wan spoke to you now, giving you a nod. "Now, I believe that Anakin might be able to explain this better than I, so I will be taking the prisoner to the ship."
"It was self preservation, it wasn't a big deal." You shrugged, wondering what Anakin could possibly say better than Obi-Wan.
He nodded once at you, and yanked Ethbren away, as you wiggled your fingers at Ethbren.
You let out a sigh after he was out earshot, slumping back against the wall. You closes your eyes, rubbing your your temples. A splitting headache had started to eat away at your head, and your patience.
"As he was saying, there is something odd about you."
"That's nice." You snorted.
"No," he scrambled to correct himself, "I just meant something different. No, that's not right either. Just something you wouldn't normally see in a person." He smiled at you, hoping to the maker that that had made sense.
You cocked an eyebrow. "Huh?"
"Uhm, Obi-Wan noticed that there was a strong presence of the force in you. He wants you to join us on our trip back to the temple, just to see what it was about." He licked his lips, opening his hands in proposition.
"I, Uhm, me?" You, have the force? "Are you sure? Maybe you were picking up on what's-his-face." There might have been a couple times, where you had been able to convince someone to do something for you, or you had just barely missed being hit by something though it seemed it was coming right for you. But that wasn't the force. It happened to everyone. Didn't it?
"He says it was you. I understand this can be frightening. But-"
"No, not frightening, I'm actually overly-excited. Just shocked." You said, letting out a huff of air. "I'll have to fly my ship, it's right over there." You gestured towards your ship, still processing the information.
"Great, I'll accompany you." He nodded once, a smile on his face. You nodded.
---
Ten minutes later you were dumping cold water on Zola, waking him up with a shout. "What the hell?" He said, voice sounding like sleep.
"Long story. But I was almost kidnapped, choked, screamed at the dude who did it, and found out that I'm gonna be a Jedi while you've been passed out in here for the last hour." You pull him off the seats he was sitting across, and introduced him to Anakin. "Zola, this is Anakin. He's showing us how to get to the Jedi temple." Zola's eyes were wide, and he licked his lips and looked down at his knees.
"You were kidnapped?!" He yelled, standing up. His entire demeanor changed, from sleepy and disoriented to enraged and terrifying. It as directed at Ethbren, but he was still pretty intimidating when he was angry.
"Almost. But I'm gonna be a fucking Jedi, dude. Focus on that, the kidnapping was temporary." He looked at you, a blank expression on his face.
"What the actual fuck? You were almost kidnapped, and you're worrying about being a Jedi." He was still raising his voice at you, but he was more worried about your sanity than your safety as of right now.
"Yes I'm worried about being a Jedi! Why wouldnt I be? that shits gonna be awesome."
Zola's mouth made an 'o' shape, and he made strangled noises. "Wh- Y/n! U- W- Are you serious?!" His voice got squeaky as he went on, and he was about to laugh. You could just tell. But it wasn't because something was funny, it was because it was the only thing he could do besides yell.
"Calm yourself, Zola." You raised an eyebrow. "It's all good." You shrugged, turning to Anakin. "Do you know how to pilot this thing?"
His smile was enormous. "Do I know how to fly this?"
Twenty minutes later, you were smiling too. Screaming as well, but smiling nonetheless. "Damn, you're a better pilot than I am." You looked back at Zola, who looked like he was gonna be sick.
"Hey!" You snapped at Zola, making him look up. "If you're gonna puke on my ship, do it in a bucket."
He nodded, "Yeah yeah, I know."
Anakin looked over at you in the Co-Pilot seat and smiled. "You're excited?" You answered with a quick nod. "Good, cause we're here." Your smile grew larger and larger as he landed your ship, and you bolted off of the ship, barely waiting for Anakin to get off.
"No, I'm good!" You heard Zola yell. "You go ahead, I'm gonna stay behind. My head hurts." You let out a loud laugh, nodding.
"Don't puke on my fucking ship!" You hollered a warning back to him.
---
You lay down at the end of the night, exhausted. You had to meet the council, and Obi-Wan had to explain everything to you. You didn't even recall half of the information. But you could bullshit your way out of anything. Even after everything else, you had to stand around and listen to Obi-Wan lecture Anakin about making an hour trip in twenty minutes. It was hard not to laugh.
Zola had been given a temporary room in a nearby hotel. You accompanied him, but didn't stay for long before bidding him a goodnight.
But now you were exhausted and you couldn't sleep. What the hell, you thought, I'm not gonna get kicked out for walking around.
You kicked off the blankets that Anakin had given you and threw on a jacket and some socks. You creeped out of the room, quiet so you didn't wake anyone.
You walking down one of the many hallways in the temple, wandering where to, you weren't sure. But you heard a door creak, and spun around, almost falling because of your socks. You caught yourself before you could make anymore noise, just barely stifling a laugh. "Hello?"
You put on a deep voice, and slunk into the shadows, "Hello, young Anakin." But burst out coughing seconds later.
"Y/n?" You could hear the smile in his voice.
"Yessir." You stepped out from behind the corner, seeing him standing outside of one of the only doors scattered in the hallway. "I couldn't sleep." You shrugged.
"Oh. Mind if I join you on your walk?" You made a 'why not' face, "Sure."
He nodded, shutting the door behind him and catching up with you. "Why couldn't you sleep?"
"Fuck I don't know, jitters maybe? But really I just have a hard time falling asleep anywhere." He nodded. You supposed he must understand, why else would he be up? "What about you?"
"Bad dreams." He muttered.
"Do you wanna talk about them?"
"No." He said, shaking his head. The two of you fell into a comfortable silence, turning down another hallway. This one was much colder, and it seemed abandoned. "Can we be down here?" It felt like a ghost town, like somewhere that would be restricted. Either way, it made your blood run cold.
Your voice was quiet, it seemed fitting for the bone-chilling atmosphere.
"I can't see why not. I don't think that anyone goes down here anymore is all." His voice was too loud in the quiet of the hallway. Now all the sound that remained was the padding of feet against the freezing floor. You heard a door slam, and froze. Anakin stopped as well, but looking back at you, he grabbed your hand and pulled you forward and turned down another hall.
This one was better lit, but still no sign of life in it. "Anakin maybe we should go back. Take a different route." You shook your head as you spoke, stopping him. You hadn't realized that you were still clinging to his hand. But he was warm as you were cold, calm compared to your anxiety.
"It's okay, this next turn should lead us to a busier section." He squeezed your shoulder, and pulled you along while rubbing circles on the top of your hand with his thumb. You just nodded. "Okay."
You walked for another moment in silence until you heard a voice shouting from behind you, "What the hell are you two doing? You aren't supposed to be out of bed!" You froze along with Anakin, and immediately the two of you started running, he unfortunately let go of your hand. You screeched a laugh as the guard groaned, shouting after you. Anakin took an abrupt turn, grin on his face, pulling you to the left, down another hallway. Before the guard turned the corner, he pulled you to the left, and took another right immediately after. He yanked you into an open room, silently shutting the door behind you.
"Is this the training room?" You asked when you noticed the training sabers lying around the room on scuffed up mats.
"Yeah." He spoke dreamily, as if caught up in memories, maybe fantasies. Maybe neither. You walked towards a saber without processing it completely, and clicked it on. You waved it through the air, listening to the buzzing that followed.
"Want me to show you how to use it?" He asked quietly. You looked over to him and nodded eagerly. "Please do." He picked up another training saber and positioned his hands, showing it to you after.
"See? Just your dominant hand above the other, but try to keep your wrists' loose." You followed his actions, but clicked it off until he told you to turn it back on. "Good, that's good. Just. . ." He trailed off as he came over to you, putting his light saber down. He put his hands over yours, turning them a little bit. "That way it'll be easier to move around and block an advance." But he didn't move his hands from yours.
Rather, he froze, looking into your eyes. You heard his breathing slow down as he attempted to slow his racing heart. His eyes flicked down to your lips, but not move back up. Instead, he took the training saber from you and dropped it to the ground. It landed with a thud. His hands moved up your arms and one rested on the nape of your neck, the other kept moving to your cheek. You took a slight, shuddering breath in as his tongue darted out from his mouth, licking his lips before chewing on the bottom one. Your stomach was twisting around as you waited for him to do something.
"I really wanna kiss you." His voice was low and practiced. As if he had been anticipating this.
"Then do it." And he did. He pressed his chapped lips against your soft ones and let out a low sigh. You melded against him, sinking into his touch as if he were quicksand. Your hands moved to grip his shirt as you tried to pull him closer to you, pressing your lips harder against his. His hand that rested on the nape of your neck moved down to your waist, squeezing you as he pulled away from you reluctantly. You let out a gratified sigh, leaning into his hand. He leaned down and pressed a subdued kiss to your lips.
The next words you spoke came in a whisper, a reluctant question that you weren't sure you wanted the answer to. "What happens now, Anakin?" You opened your eye to find his already cracked open and staring at you. "Doesn't the code say something about attachments?"
"Screw the code. We'll hide. I don't care."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah," he nodded.
"Okay." You smiled. Anakin grinned wide, before picking you up, holding you in a hug, and spinning you around once and setting you back down. He kissed you once more, with a little more need this time, his hands were in your hair and your arms were around his waist, grabbing onto his back.
"You can have any shirt of mine you want. I don't care as long as I'm the one who gets to see you in them." He muttered against your lips, making you laugh into the kiss.
