#look i will talk about steven being unhealthy and exhibiting toxic behaviors but in no way am i blaming or hating him for it #i think it’s complex and realistic and i want this kid to be happy #he’s mentally ill and theyre making that as obvious as they can on a kids cartoon so far #sure they can always just outright stick a therapist character in there and say steven has ptsd and depression #but that stuff just doesnt happen in kids cartoons and what su does is show the symptoms and recovery very well even without the overt #“lapis has ptsd” “steven has ptsd and depression” “amethyst has depression” etc #they show not tell and they do it in a kid-friendly and kid-entertaining way #which is impressive because every adult sees the symptoms for one scene and Knows #it takes one scene with steven in it to see he is mentally ill #this is not a “new” steven he is facing the consequences of the role he played in the og series #this is the kind of exploration into kid hero characters after the world is saved ive wanted since i was a kid #because no way is any kid hero no matter how kind and selfless going to bounce back once theres no one to save or fight anymore easily #what does the kid hero do when they were conditioned at such a young age to have the world on their shoulders and to be wary of danger #theyre gonna have honest to god ego problems where they think they need a big purpose and need to save everyone #theyre gonna be resentful of everything that the adults couldnt do themselves #theyre gonna be desperate for control over their life when theyre used to external forces controlling them and now hold the reins #and they have the reins and want control over their life but they dont know how to do it #i could go on and on

what are their plans for the future, if they have any

how do they feel about themselves and how it affects their behaviour (i mean. you can’t tell me a character is shy then have them do things shy people wouldn’t do, like?????)

how do they feel about things they cannot control?
