Rainer Maria Rilke, from "Letters to a Young Poet," originally published in 1929
it's so sick and twisted that you have to forge the life you deserve from the molten scraps of the life you were forced to have
sorry i haven’t posted in a while i found happiness (and got a new phone)
so my dad's car insurance called me today and was like hey we're trying to get a hold of this dude and found your name and thought y'all might be related (i have an incredibly uncommon surname). so I was like yeah that's my dad. can you tell me what he did this time
and i could tell she wasn't supposed to tell me, but heard the absolute exasperation in my voice and just knew i was his child. she described that there was "a fender bender, and an altercation, in a restaurant parking lot" and that his lawyer was trying to get a hold of him to tell him his court summons had been waived
my parents own a restaurant so I figured it was their parking lot but upon asking my mom i have learned
it was a burger king parking lot. he physically fought a guy in a rural pennsylvania burger king parking lot. love and light ☀️
update: my dad's response to my questioning
got the full story from my dad:
-pulled up to the burger king drive through and a guy was just standing in the way. my dad rolls down the window and tells him to get out of the way
-guy goes over to the window of my dad's car and starts yelling at him for some reason
-guy throws a slushie in my dad's face and then starts to walk off
-my dad, and i quote, "just fuckin blacked out" and, in an apoplectic haze, hits the dude with his truck, not hurting him but flinging him a respectable distance and knocking him to the ground. i at this point ask why he didn't just get out and punch him. he says "i don't know something just came over me", while understanding this isn't an excuse to hit people with your truck
anyway my dad's on probation now
you didn't ask for "my dad hitting a guy with his truck" updates but i have some anyway. turns out the guy he hit 1. is named bronson tate and 2. has two DV charges so i think this is warranted now
what’s the polite way of telling someone that you want to Date Their Dad
LOL I just locked something away in my heart
Franz Kafka, from a letter to Milena Jesenka featured in "Letters to Milena,"
Other people's emotions are deep and complex and beautiful but mine are proof that there is rot at the core of my being
logically I Know it's an irrational thought to have but it still irritates me to no end when stuff that's super popular gets the exact intended emotional reaction out of me
me, with tears in my eyes: how will I ever recover. I fell for it, like some kind of The Masses

it’ll be fine I just have to be a shaking terrified animal about it
What’s wrong with me
if I were a bee I'd fetishize the idea of a beekeeper clipping my tiny wings so I can't escape (remembers you're not supposed to say shit like that) I mean yesterday I ate two yogurts normally

this is almost certainly not a novel take but
i do wonder how much of the derisive language you hear toward "resistlib winemoms" or whatever is just "people who grew up in Safely Blue Coastal Enclaves rebelling against ppl who remind them of their mom b/c they are emotionally stunted adults"
like, as A Child Of A Very Conservative Area, i have a very vivid recollection of the first time i encountered this type of person, and my reaction was mostly baffled delight. wait you're telling me this PTA mom with unassailable Wholesome Americana credentials is gassing up the cause of trans rights at her book club. you're telling me she's batting her eyelashes and "think of the children"-ing, except instead of doing that to promote some obnoxious "ban this book from the school curriculum" agenda, she's shaming her state representative into actually funding the damn schools? i do not care how cringe her UV-bleached "i'm with her" bumper sticker is or whatever, she is working extremely hard & successfully on shit i care about and i will brook no slander against her
