The word diaspora

I know it’s old news, but people *are* actually editing Wikipedia pages about Judaism & Israel???

I googled the word “diaspora” since I couldn’t recall the exact meaning in Greek, and the Wikipedia page is scrubbed of Jews. Only Palestinians are mentioned in relation to Israel.

Despite the first suggested questions & articles are about the Jewish diaspora. (Even if my location/ algorithm changes the results, it would still be high up there…).

No wonder people are so ignorant about this conflict. You can’t erase history

I think one of the main reasons it’s so hard to talk to leftists as an Iranian is that the whole concept of loving your country is alien to them. They are so consumed by their hatred of their governments that their willing to side with anyone who pretends to be against western countries even if that’s a terrorist regime like islamic republic

I noticed that this is also a huge problem when it comes to racism within the progressive left. They can't understand that a lot of Black Americans are mainstream Democrats because they also see problems with America, but they still love their country, and want to better it. They don't want to burn it to the ground. The progressive left can't handle it, and calls them uneducated for not supporting Bernie.

My favorite quirk of American English is that since we're constantly exaggerating, sometimes it's more intense to say something slightly less intense. Because like, it means you actually thought about it.

"you look great!" - normal. Anyone could say this. Could be true or could just be lying to be nice. Very normal expected thing to say to someone

"you look good." - gay as hell thing to say to someone.

I actually do think we should discourage women from becoming housewives. Do not become financially dependent on a man. That's how a lot of women ended up dead over the years. A man gets violent suddenly and you have to choose between homelessness or potentially dying at his hand because you have an enormous gap in your resume and no degrees or certifications or anything that will help you pursue a career that will allow you to be financially independent. He owns your bank account. His name is probably the one on the car. Try and leave and he can report it stolen. Where will you go then?

Make sure you’re legally married, for starters; stay-at-home girlfriends have very little legal recourse to claim their partner’s assets in a breakup. Make sure your name is on the house deed/rental agreement, and have your car in your name, even if your spouse is paying for it. Have your spouse transfer money every month into an account solely in your name, so you can buy yourself things without needing permission, but also so you can save up to leave if needed.

If your spouse fights you on any of this, then don’t quit your job. The tradwife to poverty pipeline is real, and so is financial abuse.

went to a new optometrist today wearing my squid facts ‘save our freaks’ shirt from @sarahmackattack that has a strawberry squid on it. and i wasn’t even thinking about it but the optometrist walked in and he was like ‘oh what does your shirt say’ so i showed him and he was like ‘oh that’s neat!’ and then i thought he might like to know about strawberry squid eyes since they have weird eyes and he is an optometrist and all. so i was like ‘yeah it’s actually a real kind of squid called a strawberry squid, their eyes are really cool because they have one big yellow-green one and one small blue one’ and he kind of gasped and went ‘oh my god that’s so interesting i wonder why they have that. do you know what their retina composition is like?’ and i watched as he minimized my chart on the computer and started looking up images of strawberry squid and then he googled ‘strawberry squid retina composition’ and he was like ‘sorry we’ll get to your eye exam in a moment i just really want to find out’ LMAO 10/10 optometrist experience will be returning
