The rise in antisemitism in the last few years is awful. I wish I could do more about it.

I'm not Jewish. I say that because unfortunately it feels like that needs to be clarified - and not in a "so I can't speak directly to the impact of this because it's not my story so you should listen to those who are being affected" (that's still true and you should do it) but because part of the antisemitism is dismissing Jewish people when they bring it up.

And I imagine this post will get me a lot of messages/responses about freeing Palestine - and I agree, lots of horrible things are happening to Palestinians. But this post is about the horrible things that are happening to Jewish people.

I'm Canadian. The things I read about antisemitic hate crimes have nothing to do with helping Palestinians. How does damaging property in Canada or attacking a person in Canada help?

I don't want to hear about the mental gymnastics or outright hateful logic you use to make it ok to attack a marginalized community. Instead, just go head and block me. Stop following. We don't need to interact with each other.

The harm that is being done toward Jewish communities and individuals over the world is heartbreaking. The lack of support/outrage/solidarity that is being shown to those individuals and communities is shameful for the rest of us. Call it out. Stand up. Correct information that is harmful. Listen and read and learn and try to understand instead of scratching your head and finding reasons for why this kind of aggression and discrimination is ok actually.

And if you're Jewish and reading this - hi, welcome. I don't know enough and I'll probably miss some things as I'm still learning, but I hope following me can be safe for you.

Someone set off a homemade bomb in NYC to "protest ICE" which of course injured 3 random bystanders and 0 ICE agents or anyone associated with ICE. Once again I am on my soapbox that the left has become as likely to commit terrorist attacks as the right and they always just fucking kill/injure random people, like all terrorists. If you view harming jews an acceptable thing to do in your quest to harm zionists and end zionism, you are antisemitic.

Its been explained countless times by countless jews on how to critize and talk about zionism without letting jews catch strays. And if you've somehow managed to exist in political spaces about israel and palestine, without encountering any explanation of how to do so, still a skill issue. It is your responsibility to seek out how to engage in activism in a way which does not cause harm to minorities.

Amazon’s super bowl ad where the Alexa mocks Chris Hemsworth for being worried about giving spy software control over his entire life. Waymo’s ad with the intro “the robots are coming!” mocking people who are rightfully extremely concerned about sharing the road with, or riding in, self-driving cars.

i don’t know, it’s just genuinely insane to me. “Oh, you have legitimate concerns about our shitty product? sounds like you’re just lame!!!” like what kind of “quiet part out loud” marketing is that?

We in the liberal movements are doing a great disservice to our children by not teaching them enough Torah. I'm not saying we need to force them to interpret everything one specific way, but these texts are the foundation for our whole people and we need to study them. If we want people to be able to make their own decisions about what's meaningful to them, they need to know what the choices are and where they come from. Plus, the intellectual stimulation is good for you. We need to know how to learn and actually think.

Note: there is no cooking referenced in this image. The joy is in smacking things. A water-dragon is there but we’re not exactly aiming for it and it looks friendly. This is because Irma knew we’d be out here, fighting for our lives, every day. The actual recipes are indeed less important than knowledge and confidence. I know this is a joke, but it’s worth talking about the Joy of Sex, which was marketed the same way as the Joy of Cooking on purpose. Lots of millennials got their first understanding of sex from the slightly weird book their parents had, with all the armpit hair in it. Regardless it was very important for its time, and had elements that would still be slightly shocking or revolutionary today.

The original intention was to use the same approach as such cook books as The Joy of Cooking, hence section titles include "starters" and "main courses". The book features sexual practices such as oral sex and various sex positions as well as bringing "further out" practices such as sexual bondage and swinging to the attention of the general public.

Back in 2013, I posted a Welcome to Night Vale fic and someone commented, “I’m autistic and I see myself a lot in the way you write Carlos. Did you intend for him to autistic?”

And I was like “I’m flattered you think so! No, he’s not intended to be autistic, but I’m glad you can see yourself in him.”

Now twelve years later I spent some time this evening trying to track down that comment to give a very belated clarification. Whoever you were stranger, hey. I only said no because I based Carlos heavily on me, and since I wasn’t autistic, Carlos wouldn’t be either. Well. I’ve learned some stuff in the intervening decade that strongly support your literary analysis.
