Re9!Leon Kennedy x Spouse Agent!Reader
Summary: Burdened by regrets, Leon was always held back by his past and never looked toward his future with you.
TW: OOC characters? grammatical errors, cringe, kinda rushed writing huhu.
Before you could pull the trigger, a sudden flash of light illuminated the room. A big figure walked inside, scanning the surroundings while more armed men scattered around the facility. Then the figure comes closer to you in a rush, but unfortunately, you can’t clearly see it because of the virus spreading in your bloodstream.
Dropping the gun, you started coughing even more. The figure held on to you instantly as he called out your name. “C-Chris?” You said, recognizing the man, throat is getting dry. “Yeah, it’s me, hang in there, okay? I'm sorry I'm late.” Chris said calmly, but a slight panic was visible in his tone. You feel his hands all over the spots where the virus is spreading, checking your state.
You let out a chuckle, almost a wheeze from pain. “You are lucky, you can get to see my pretty face until I turn into those freaks,” you joke, but you feel the arms that are holding you get tighter. “Shut up, you will keep that face of yours, just hold on, our team is searching the whole building for the vaccine.” He replied, you can hear the frustration in his voice.
”From their last report to Sherry, it was located in the lower ground, go search that floor.” You heard Chris talking to one of his men, who answered with a quick salute and hurriedly left. “Hey, what happened to the ones you are retrieving?” He asked, gently checking your eyes.
Then you feel him carry your body outside the place and put it on a stretcher in a quick motion. “I lost one, sorry, Chris. Leon gave the other one to Wong because she got infected, too. W-We can only get the nearest ones before a horde of infected rushes in, and we got separated.” You said, blood filling your throat.
“Ada Wong?” Chris asked, a peak of irritation was clear in his voice. “Y-Yeah.” You answered, face contorting into a painful expression as more black veins appear on your face. Chris noticed this; you heard him call some of his men.
“We will talk about that later once you are cured. Take it easy for now.” Chris said as he strapped you down tightly on the stretcher. “They will transfer you to the facility. I will ask Rebecca if she can check you.” Chris said, then he walked away. You heard him give orders from a distance, then you feel his men pull your body inside the van and drive away.
As Chris walks inside the wrecked umbrella laboratory, he sees Leon being tended by the medics. He walked to him, “Where’s Ada?” Chris asked, tone lowered. “I don’t know,” Leon muttered, his head low.
This made Chris grit his teeth, “My men and now your partner!? Who else are you going to sacrifice just for that woman!?” Chris shouted, gesturing to the staff to leave as he angrily grabbed Leon’s collar.
“You are pathetic, look at you. Where is she? She will never stay, Leon! You know that. And the one who is always by your side, you just fucking left to die.” Leon gritted his teeth, looking down. Chris let go of his collar, punching him hard, making Leon fall on his back. As he tried to get up, Chris quickly stepped on his chest, making him unable to get up.
“Was that woman there when you were getting black out drunk? Who took care of you with all the baggage you have because of Raccoon City? Who was there when you were recovering from every damn mission?” Chris said, pushing his foot deeper as Leon holds it in defense.
Leon kicked Chris, making him stagger. He then pointed accusingly at Chris as he stood up. “You don’t know shit about our life, mind your own fucking business, Chris.” He shouted, glaring. This angered Chris further.
“Who the fuck do you think listens to them when you don’t?” Chris shouted back, kicking him. Making Leon land on the wall with a loud thud. He then shoved his arm to Leon's neck, pinning him to the wall.
Leon can’t look him straight in the eyes as he lets the guilt sink in, struggling against Chris' strength. He loves you, really, but just not as much as his mind desires the woman in the red dress. That decision wasn’t easy for him, but his attachment to Ada is too much to resist.
When Raccoon City happened, Ada was the only comfort he could find. The city is full of infected people, and is in chaos. She was his savior, like an angel in the midst of the storm. If she weren’t around, he probably wouldn’t be alive right now. That comfort turned into affection until it bloomed into obsession.
She’s a part of him he can't let go, and you are a part of him he’s willing to let go.
Beeps of monitors fill the room as the brunette examines your state from outside the glass room. A glass that is used to contain bioweapons, strong enough to hold them back.
Rebecca just finished doing what she could to slow down the virus from spreading inside your body, but it’s not enough; you need the cure. Your hands are starting to shift, with longer nails and blood-red skin.
“Hang in there, Chris and Leon are still searching. Don’t you dare die on me.” Rebecca said, a worried expression written on her face as she touched the glass with her palm.
You feel numb, your vision turning red, like you are not you anymore. ‘Leon, huh?’ You found it funny that he’s doing that, now he wants to save you. Maybe he is doing that to lessen the ghosts on his back.
As much as you hate Leon and Ada right now, you can’t really blame them. It’s not Ada's fault Leon chooses her every time. You can’t blame Leon either; she was his sanctuary in his most traumatic time. You still wonder why he accepted your confession years ago, and why he said yes when you proposed. Is it because you are the one available? To cover the hole Ada left?
You don’t know anymore, you don’t want to know.
“Captain, we found it.” An armed man with a case in hand approached Chris, making him let go of Leon, “I need to do something, make sure to take all the evidence and vaccines you can find, then report to me.” He said, walking fast towards his vehicle. “Roger!”
A sudden barge from the door startled Rebecca, as Chris appeared with a case in hand. He rushed towards the glass door, and what he saw pains him. There lay your body, half turned.
“Chris?” you muttered as you felt him insert the vaccine in your arm, not wasting any more time. Your body began to shake violently, the pain getting too much. Chris instantly held you to stabilize you, as you uncontrollably thrashed in his embrace.
Your body forces itself to turn back, claws retracting, the muscles shifting to normal. Rebecca understood the situation and didn’t say anything, just let Chris do what he needed to do. “You got this, almost there,” Chris said, still holding you.
After a few minutes, your features got back to normal. You looked at Chris, “Hey,” you grinned breathlessly at him like you didn’t just almost die. He flicked your forehead and let out a sigh, “You can check her now, Rebecca.” He said, gently letting you go as you sat on the bed.
Rebecca entered the room and started checking your body while Chris stayed inside, leaning against the wall, spectating. “So what happened? How exactly did you end up like that?” Rebecca questioned, holding your chin as she checked your face.
When she turned your head to the side, you looked at Chris, who was also looking at you, waiting. Then your head faced Rebecca, who is now raising her eyebrows. “Long story, better with a cup of coffee or beer, you decide, gorgeous.” You joked, winking at her.
She sighed, “Alright, I’m letting you off this time,” but before you could reply, she hugged you tightly. “I’m glad you’re alive,” she added.
You smiled softly, hugging her back, “Thank you, Rebecca.” You replied, letting go of each other, Rebecca removed her gloves.
“Man, this is not the leg shaking experience that I want.” You joked, and Chris gently smacked the back of your head. “Shut up, or I am leaving you here.” Rebecca shook her head and smiled at you two, “I will leave you both now. I need to further investigate the virus you just had,” and she left.
"Wait here," Chris said, and walked out to get a glass of water. He returned inside the glass room, handing it to you as he sat down beside you. "Are you ready to talk about it?" He gently said.
You looked down at the glass in your hands, "He had to choose which one to save," you mumbled, taking a sip. "Well, you can guess what happened," you finished, placing the cup down.
Then he pulled you in a tight hug, "What are your plans?" he said, caressing the back of your head. You pushed your head deeper into his neck and whispered. "I don't know, I spent half of my life with him, Chris, I don't know what to do." He sighed, "I am not telling you to stop loving him, but you need to choose yourself if he can't." He said, gently letting go. Placing his hand on your shoulder.
Staring down at the floor, "You're right," You said, then looked at him with your glossy eyes. "Thank you, Chris." You said, putting your hand on his. He smiled, "Always."
Leon stared at the wall in your shared place, a space decorated with pictures. You put that up, you made this a home when he can’t. He wonders if you will still forgive him this time, because no matter what he did before, you always did.
The apartment feels so cold; he doesn’t know if you are still alive or already haunting him for what he did. It felt heavy, the decision he made. He never wanted for that to happen to you, but he had to do what he did, or he might lose her.
Chris didn’t tell him where you are; he knows he fucked up. He needs to talk to you, apologize, and say he loves you. But apologize for what? for something he would probably do again if the situation happened again?
Every corner reminds him of you, the things you do. The sofa where you would take care of him after a mission. Switching his gauzes, cleaning his wounds while you comfort his heart. The kitchen where you two would eat together if he is not busy, and the bedroom where you both take most of your days off resting after missions.
In the bathroom, you would help him cut his hair, trim his stubble, and tell him how strong he is for enduring all for Sherry's and everyone's safety. Your ghost haunts every part of his being; he can hear the walls shaming him. He wants to hold you again, but will you let him? You probably hate him, and he can’t blame you for that.
He left you to die, suffering from a deadly virus, while he holds Ada like she’s his whole world in front of you. And that ‘whole world’ left him again, just like before. Disappearing without any trace.
He is uncertain where you are in his heart, and because of that, he lost you as well.

A/N: Thank you for reading! Sorry if the update took so long, and if it's not what you guys expected, I am very busy with my academics and in a writer's block rn, huhu. Not very satisfied with how this turned out, but I hope it's still a decent read. :((
I am planning to write another ending where Leon chooses to cure the reader instead of Ada, just like RE7, where you get the true ending when you choose Mia. I might also make a separate Chris fic based on this fic, but you can interpret the Chris in this fic as platonic dw!
