had to nab these tags from @ravenvsfox
And in my quest to watch alllll the good tv from a decade ago, after finishing a #travelers rewatch, look at me—queuing up #OrphanBlack for the first time!
no self, don’t rewatch an entire 3 season tv show with a dead/no fandom just so you can accurately write a post canon long form whump fic that you’ll inevitably abandon after 6 chapters
but philip realising he’s stuck in an abandoned timeline though
stop it
but he knows every tragedy that’s going to happen and has no way to know if he can ever change things for the better now, just that so far theyve only ever made them worse
#the pain of rediscovering “Travelers” post-fandom
#the joy of remembering tumblr and knowing there be fannish content there
“Who is the internet even for anymore?” is such a valid question. Companies are sanitizing the internet and stifling natural human expression in the name of child safety and being family friendly, but the kids such as fuck aren’t benefitting from this. The internet is becoming too childish for adults and yet still too adult for kids.
I remember when if you were a dumbass on the internet people would gently, then not so gently point that out #back when we had standards #maybe they were low but they were there #remember LJ ban hammer #Pepperidge Farm remembers
Ann Dowd played a smoking Andorian in an episode of Hacks where they start a “grassroots” letter writing campaign at a fan expo.
So obviously a reference to Star Trek (not just the Andorian, the letter writing campaign too) but having her smoking also felt like a nod to The Leftovers.
So glad to finally see “Andorian” instead of “blue alien” or “random sci fi cosplay” #more Ann Dowd and Jean Smart please #lady actors of a certain age #LAOACA forever
@elodieunderglass - This made me think of you.
I would give that horse cake in a heartbeat
he had it coming
i love fics that feel so... grown. fics about adults that were written by adults who have years of life experience under their belts who pour that into their writing. fics where you can tell this is a person who has lived through a marriage or a divorce or a child or children or parent death or any number of Huge Life Events because the way they write with an emphasis on the highs and lows of the human experience rather than an emphasis on tropes (not throwing shade) is just so. oh man, it's just so fucking good. if my blorbos are grown men, grown women, grown people, i love it when they feel like grown people, not just extensions of the (young) author's imagination. (still not throwing shade). you know?
Reflecting on just how many people I know spent a semester at Oxford or Cambridge in their college years. A friend who just turned 70 and was an accounting major. Two English literature students, one a PhD. A fitness trainer who majored in theatre.
But the History major attending a small private Quaker college…not one advisor ever suggested the possibility of such a thing. What up, small private Quaker college?!?
More cultures should embrace the snack/light meal of bun and cheese. Melty strong aged cheddar on a warm soft pillowy bun, no guilt that it’s not low-fat or whole grain. Cheap as chips and the perfect thing for a chilly rainy day. I’ll go back to a macro-counted high protein low fat high fiber breakfast on a sunnier day but today it’s melty cheese on a fluffy bun.
Not people saying “Fandom has always been like this” in that vent post I made. No. It hasn’t always been like this. Fandom has NEVER been like this until recently and if you were in fandom pre-tumblr purge, pre-twitter, pre-netflix boom, pre-tiktok….then you would fucking know it was nothing like this.
We still had the drive to create. We still sold prints and charms and made zines…but it was never like this.
The introduction of streaming, binge shows that drop all at once, tiktok and vine RIP i still love u vine but you were the beginning of a particularly ugly era) creating this bite sized, quick paced ‘content’ era of creation and it bled out into fucking everything else.
Fandoms didn’t die down when the show ended or the season was over. You didn’t mass unfollow artist, writers or moots just because they changed fandoms. There wasn’t this need to please the algorithm in order for your posts to get seen by people and enjoyed.
Fandoms used to last YEARS. Star Trek is literally the oldest running fandom out there and you got people in there that could care less about the new stuff and still have been happily prancing through their fucking fifty year old fandom today. Hell, even SPN after all it’s fuckups and shitshows has a dedicated fanbase STILL creating tons of art and fic.
There is no patience anymore. No calm feeling of taking in fandom and friends at a pace that which doesn’t make you stressed and is still fun.
Do I blame fandom for this? Of course not, but people are complacent with it and start changing their vocab to accommodate and end up making the situation so deep it cant be fixed.
We call Art & Fic Content now, completely stripping the value of what it is to a level of consumerism instead of personal entertainment & community bonding.
Let OP talk, they’re absolutely right.
It really is crazy how fast people burn through things now. I saw people saying the Arcane fandom was dead only a few *weeks* after the last episode aired. Imagine being a fic writer working on a big fic for the show and seeing that. Or an artist working on a fan comic. Like, c’mon, people.
Scary truth here
Is it normal to rotate favorite (well, the one you most vibe with) grandchild? Like, girl-grand was my girl for a while with cooking-teaching, glitter, making her first World of Warcraft toon. Now she’s all travel ball and group school projects but middle boy-grand is the happy medicated ADHD kid (like me!) and rules at various PC games and wants me to “watch THIS MaMaw” while I advise him to add another engine and maybe a pair of wings but don’t forget that will require more fuel… And then he wanted to see my new alt and maybe next time I can help him build his own toon.
So far the baby-grand just happily bounces and jumps and spins a lot.
there's been a robbery at the lourve???? please tell me they nicked the mona lisa it would be so fucking funny
i'm talking proper heist movie backflipping over lasers and cutting holes in the ceiling to slowly descend on a wire i want this shit to be FUNNY
nevermind they did something funnier let's chainsaw our way in and then scoot out beep beep that's the sound of my scooter vrmmm vrmmm that's the sound of my tiny chainsaw
And now I’m missing Leverage all over again #It was Elliot and Parker #Sophie and Nate planned it #Hardison remotely supervised
Michael Hogan has a prolific career as an actor. He is perhaps best known for his work in Battlestar Galactica, and we in the TES community know him as the VA for General Tullius in Skyrim or as Doc in Fallout New Vegas.
In 2020, Michael suffered a traumatic brain injury, which left him unable to speak or walk amongst other serious issues.
Since then he was been slowly relearning to talk and to stand on his own. His wife Susan set up a GoFundMe which had aided them in affording Michael's care.
In her most recent update from this spring, Susan said they need a new wheelchair for Michael as his current one is falling apart.
The GoFundMe has received alot of generous support over the past five years, but is still active as its goal has not been reached.
Please consider donating if you are able.
Michael and Susan Hogan have been dear friends and neighbours of mine on Bowen Island for 20 years but … Susan Hogan needs your support for
