Development for a shelved project
My take on the story of ROBIN HOOD for Character Design Masterclass, by Masters of Anatomy (a Kickstarter proj).
Here are a few concepts that show part of my process before getting to a final version of the character.
I love sculpting the silhouette and finding the characters in it.
Then I use faces and other details i find sketching from life.
A few moments at the Press Conference at Warner Bros just before the Italian Premiere of THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE in Rome. I had a blast helping promoting our film!!. And so proud to be back to my own country to share such and incredible experience as Character Art Director:)!
Animations by Romain Barriaux on Dofus movie, Le Vagabond de Saint Marcel short film, and Abraca project.

ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE’S MASCOTTES
From a Mobile Game to the Big Screen
designing the characters in the Angry Birds Movie. Here are more examples of how I worked on the characters for our film.
This is a progression of drawings that shows how I transformed the character Hal in THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE from the mobile game to a character that could perform and entertain an audience in the teather for two hours.
And below is a 2d short starring Bubbles and Hal that came out last month! love it:)
Designing the population of pigs for THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE! Here are a few images.
Establishing the visual language to bring the game characters to the big screen was the most fun challenge for me.
The process of translating my style and designs into CG for the film wasn’t easy but Sony Pictures Imageworks has done MAGIC and working together on this film has been a tremendously enriching professional experience for me! A big and special shout out to Leo Sanchez with whom I worked to create the first tridimentional pig in CG that served as a visual guide for all the pigs in the film and for the modelers at look development artists at Sony Pictures Imageworks. Leo’s eye and talent has been a crucial contribution to the making of our characters. Same uber-kudos to Sandro Cleuzo which drew a lot of pigs and filled our model packets with fantastic artwork to reference and then of course my awesome Vancouver character team Luis Gadea (design) , Cindey Chiang (color) and Veronika Bekker (color).
The first image is the design that defined the character of Mighty Eagle in the 2d sequences in The Angry Birds Movie. I used this particular drawing to sell my idea of an Art Deco inspired spin to the design/look of he Mighty Eagle to Producers and Directors. The final product looks amazing! The work of the team that has handled production is fantastic! Check out Travis Ruiz’s page for more images or get the Artbook of the film if you want to discover more:)
The Art of The Angry Birds Movie book sneak peek: The book is finally out and it shows A LOT of artwork that we produced for the making of this beautiful movie. Check it out!
