bridgerton s4 part 1 spoilers below okay..and i have so much to say
i'm going to try and condense this as much as possible because my thoughts are everywhere and i was taking little notes whilst watching but!
- so far this season has the most book like feel. it's most accurate to the books, as well it gives first season vibes but with the beautiful romance of season two and i love it so much! episode three was by far the best episode in this season, and even more so since season two, which further shows just how poorly done season three was done. and i LOOOOOVE that this season is back to being romance first, for me that's why season two was my favorite, because it was all about the yearning and the heart. that being said, i don't think whistledown is necessary anymore and i genuinely think that this should be the last season with her, just as the books did; retire it. it feels a little out of place having it this season
- having more bridgertons was exactly what i wanted, the series is about them and it's definitely been lacking! so showing them interact more with their banter, fights and having more of their individual stories without it being too overwhelming makes it feel so much more connected! but also it definitely then shows during those moments when anthony and daphne aren't there
- both benedict and sophie as a couple and individuals shine so bright! i cherish and love them so dearly! sophie is so awkward and rooted in the realism of this show that it's a breath of fresh air and a different perspective that i felt like the series has been missing. plus i love that they introduced her through the masquerade first, that was so clever. benedict was made to be a leading man, it's so natural for him to be in the forefront. he's just so charming, there was no need for his character to change because he's always been charming. sophie and benedict have soooo much chemistry, their romance is this intense yearning of two opposites and it's delicious watching them unfold. like c'mon from the cheek kiss and the hand sniff to the clash on the stairs ughh it's so good
- and of course francesca. i'm..hm i don't know where to start because obviously she is my favorite and i overanalyze with her characterization immensely. but man i'm so not happy with what they've done with her?? she's been reduced to a person who's constantly pining after an orgasm essentially. that's all she's worried about, every single scene is her asking someone about it and it's so frustrating because they're purposely setting things up for michaela but in such a horrible way?? first of all, why does fran and john's love/marriage have to be the same as everyone else's? love and relationships are different for everyone, yet they're making it seem like there has to be intense lust from the get go in order for the relationship to be counted as special and actual love. i mean this may be just me talking because i am asexual and i will always put romance before any kind of sexual relations of any kind but wtf. this doesn't set up well for fran and michaela's season because ( SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK I GUESS FDKSJFH ) what's going to happen is instead of when john dies and fran goes into mourning for years because of how much she loved john and felt like no other could ever compare to the love that she had with him, what they're going to do is she's going to go into mourning with intense guilt over the fact that she was thinking about michaela the entire time she was with john, so therefore their relationship won't start out great. which is why i refuse to write fran being even remotely interested in michaela while john is alive, because wtf do you mean???? i'm so upset at what they're doing to her, i love her so much but you can't tell me that for weeks this is all she's been thinking about???
john liking hazel?? pleaseeeee i ship it so hard
POSY IS A GEM AND I'M KEEPING HER IN MY POCKET
also lmao mr lewis? just spinning through the scene in the background behind violet made me laugh
mama violet getting her garden watered finaly
fran seeing john and baby elliot interact ): pleaseeee she wants to be a mom
eloise being surrounded by men and being rightfully terrified
enchanted playing when sophie was looking longingly at benedict through the door was pure cinema
benedict's barely hanging on, unfastened pants was a paid actor and was sooo welcome
also benedict being made to look like a fool in front of sophie because he's literally just a loser and i love that about him
and i need it to be eloise's season next because it only makes sense, the girl cannot wait anymore
