Some shower scene sketches
condo stairway scene gets me every single time bc of the way ilya lingers. the way he takes way too long to tie his shoes & adjust his jeans, the way he stands for a moment even though his cab is definitely there & the way he teases shane as he slowly lowers himself to give the sweetest, most unhurried kiss goodbye.
no one told me that The Cut put Hudson and his mom on their diva sighting list I’m crying

guys will make something called “the ultimate treat” and it’s just a meatball sub. it’s just a meatball sub made on toasted garlic bread with cheese, homemade sauce, and all the love in their heart— their heart so filled to bursting with love you can taste it in the sandwich (x)

It’s interesting how the entire club scene is lit with the bisexual colors bc both Ilya and Shane are performing bisexuality in inauthentic and equally toxic ways to hide their fear, hurt, and shame.
For Shane, bisexuality is his last ditch effort to deny his queerness and desire for Ilya. For Ilya, flaunting his bisexuality in front of Shane—who is struggling so hard with the desire to be ‘straight passing’—is both a taunt and a plea.
Both of them using bisexual exploration and expression in deeply flawed and destructive ways for a scene that is lit with bisexual colors is so interesting.
The bisexual flag colors are meant to represent authenticity, visibility, and pride but both Shane and Ilya are so deeply buried in fear, hurt and shame that they are branded by the bisexual colors instead of embraced by them.
The bisexual colored lighting is as atmospheric and inescapable as identity itself, further contrasting and coloring everything that is keeping them apart.

idk it's just Shane reaching for Ilya's hand on the team bus and Ilya dragging Shane onto the ice by his hand for practice and Shane and Ilya holding hands waiting for the hotel coffee machine and Ilya sitting on Shane's left at tape review so Shane can still take notes if they hold hands and Shane scrolling on his phone while Ilya catches up with Harris and they're holding hands and

Another sweatsuit Ilya because thinking about this while high last night made me laugh
i would love to hear what else you have to say about shane’s characterization within the fandom
honestly i think it's quite a complex topic, and i'm not trying to say that people can't have fun with how they interpret shane.
but it is noticeable to me how often people will fixate on a specific part of his identity and extrapolate from there – even when that contradicts canon. like yes, he's canonically autistic, but it does not make sense to me to portray him being bothered by the bright lights and loud noises of a hockey rink. that's clearly an environment he thrives in to me.
of course it's fun to exaggerate and build upon canon traits, but i think the way people talk about shane's internalized homophobia can be quite strange. it tends to be either turned into outward homophobia (i.e. towards fabian, when that scene in the book actually is quite emotionally complex imo), or a thing he overcomes pretty much immediately after they get outed.
this is a very specific thing, but to me shane never seemed as socially unaware as fanon often depicts him as. yes, he likes to ask clarifying questions, but it's not like he doesn't understand the conversation he's having.
often this seems to stem from people projecting their own experiences onto him, which honestly is just how fandom tends to work, especially with a protagonist. but because shane's lived reality of being a superstar millionaire professional athlete isn't exactly relatable, often there is a disconnect in what people who share some parts of his identity experience and project onto him and what would make sense in-universe. i'm not trying to shame people for having fun playing with dolls, but when things are presented as serious analysis it just,, can be a bit frustrating, i guess
