Acrylic is like what if there was a paint medium that dried so fast that you could never blend anything or get the right colour. And then oil paint is like what if you were always spending 40 dollars
Free service with ads: Well, if I'm not paying for it they have to foot the bill somehow.
Paid service with no ads: Well, if they're not funding it with ad revenue, they need to charge us something.
Paid service with ads: Well that's bullshit.
"We used to be a paid service without ads, but now we're putting ads in it! If you want the ad-free version you have to pay more for preeeeemium": Fuck you fuck you fuck you
Free service with no ads: Okay so these guys are stealing my data
her eyes were the sickly green of the sky before a tornado, and to his horror he discovered she could throw cows around just as easily
to his horror? weak shit. outta my way gayboy im boutta get it
all of our trobles seem so small from up here
Victor Frankenstein after achieving the impossible and building a fucking person from scraps of the dead: Oh god, ew, ew it's ugly! Yucky! Yucky! Gross! Ew! Ew! Yucky! Yucky! Gross! Ew!
I've honestly never been more aware (and appreciative) of just how many people Dropout employs, even if it's only for one episode, as with the Behind the Scenes for Count the Rice
You've got the seven contestants, Sam, the hosts for the seven rooms, 25 Grants, the room bouncers, and a huge amount of production and crew members both for prep ahead of time, on the day itself, and then editing the episode
And all of these people get profit sharing moving forward, in addition to whatever they were paid for that single shoot day
I'm just constantly impressed that Dropout is built on both fun for the audience and on taking care of the people who work there
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be a part of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
two ends of the spectrum
Usually the gag rewards don't really work for me. Like it feels better to have no reward or just do a statue like they do for Make Some Noise than something that's barely a joke.
But "Winner winner" "Chicken dinner!!!" and then handing Ify a rotisserie chicken is top notch comedy. Like the comedy gods put their hands on the scale to make sure the giant jacked guy won the protein prize.
the editors of this ep really carried ngl
despite so clearly hating counting rice, jiavani and hannah's absolute refusal to do bad at the games is so funny to me
catherine is hopefully going to become the new demi (dropoutās up-and-coming superstar), which works because demi is on his way to becoming the new brennan (in everything yet still canāt win one damn time, sam has him on speed dial), and that also works because brennan is somewhere out there playing ten games of dungeons and dragons at once
also can we talk about the game design of count the rice?? brilliant
the only challenges that require multiple people are at the beginning and end - at the beginning to allow the players to bounce around there for a bit before they realize they need to go down, and also at the end to ensure that a runaway player has to wait for another to catch up
count the rice itself, of course, can only be played with one player, so that players never actually have to count rice (if you had to wait for a second player at the end, then whoever got closest would win) (this is ofc not accounting for hannah pilkes)
the middle rooms are great too, because they are easy to intentionally fail, and hard to win. the spot the difference rooms are especially good, because you think you understand what it is (spot the difference between the two halves of the room), and this is seemingly confirmed when you successfully loose, but once you come back to try to win, you realize you did not actually fully understand the game. the placement of these is important, too - only players who were intentionally trying to lose got to those rooms. any higher in the sequence, and they might have had a player trying to win reach the rooms first, and then they'd realize the twist
and also the decision to split the rooms up? 2 and 3 in a separate space from 4-8, so players would assume there are only 3 until someone loses enough, subtly hiding the majority of the game from them
ugh just so many little details in the game design here are so perfect and well thought out, game changer is clearly such a labor of love
i think what made count the rice so awesome (if ominous) is that it harkened back to game changerās fundamentals which is the only way to win is by learning and the only way to learn is by playing. i love the game changers where they get no instructions and itās more puzzle based because thatās what season 1 game changer was really founded on.
catherine might be the first game changer player who understood the assignment, immediately failed the assignment, figured out the assignment better, told everyone else the assignment, and then failed multiple times cause she truly cannot describe pictures (or name songs). player of all time. i love seeing someone who clearly gets and loves game changer and is just plain bad at games. representation for all of us.
