it is so upsetting listening to so many males talk about all of the times they have gone on road trips alone and slept in their cars alone or on the side of the road, or travelled overseas alone and slept on the floor of strangers homes or in parks or at hostels, and they appear to have such freedom in that they are able to be alone in ways that females, unfortunately, cannot. and there is an ignorance surrounding this in that these boys never seem to comprehend just how fortunate they are that strange people and unfamiliar places and the dark of night are not their enemies but rather exciting, promising things.

This is so personal to me. I always wanted to be that guy, but after having been … abused a lot, I learned I could not be this guy as a woman.

And, upon meeting my SO, he told me about how after he graduated, he got in his car, alone, a took a country-wide road trip. Wide-eyed and impressed, I said “I always wanted to do something like that.” He reflexively told me, “you should.” To which I responded, “I can’t. I’m a woman.” It took a long time for him to realize I meant that, as a woman, I’m not safe to move through the world that freely. It never occurred to him that safety might be a concern. Money, will, means, all these things he had thought of. But, safety? He only learned to question it by watching how I moved through the world, by listening to me explain my life to him.

Imagine

Imagine what you could do for the world or yourself, or the ones you love with 5 billion dollars. Just imagine. 5 billion dollars. That’s a large sum of money, isn’t it? You could feed many, clothe many, and even house many others. You could help so many people in so many ways. You could also travel, start businesses, create a beautiful and bright future for yourself, the life you’ve always worked for and wanted. You could free yourself from the economic limits of life. You could even care for your parents, your spouse, your kids, all of your friends and family, whenever and wherever they are in heavy need. You could be there for financial support to your loved ones. Anyone could do anything with that much money couldn’t they? And here we are, today, in our society, another day spent for so many people, all across the world, in heavy financial crises, in horrible poverty, even struggling in the midst of life threatening conflicts within so many countries, and our president, Mr. President Donald Trump, wants those potential 5 billion dollars to use in order to build his wall on the US/Mexican border. And the funniest part is probably the fact that he would even go as far as to potentially shut down the US government in order to get what he wants and not what our country needs. Ouch.

Gun control (small insight)

I know everyone has different opinions on the matter of whether there should be gun control in the nation. Many people who oppose the easy access and use of guns throughout our country, usually use the phrase that “guns are bad”, and while I personally agree that there should be some form of gun regulation in our country, I don’t agree with that particular phrase. I think people need to understand that it’s the not the guns that are bad or the problem, it’s the people. It is the people who use these guns, the way they use them that inflicts so much pain and conflict in our society. The problem, caused by an extent of people in our country, needs to be focused on. We need to understand and try to solve whatever is happening at the root of the problem, while also making sure the rest of our people are really safe, preferably by putting strong regulations on the circulation of guns in the nation. I know politics is kinda tabooed on tumblr but I thought it was important to see a different yet common perspective on the matter.
