I keep seeing that post going around about how the internet was designed for teenagers and adults over took it and it literally makes me laugh like??? When on earth was the Internet EVER designed for teenagers, it was a firmly adult only space up until a few years ago when suddenly everything had to be advertising friend and consumable for 13 year olds.
Right the Internet was totally designed for kids and adults "colonised" it. lol, lmao even.
Malls were built for people with money to spend the money. There are old advertisements for shopping malls from the 60s and 70s, and the only minors visible are the children holding hands with their mothers. The child is depicted as much of an accessory to the woman as the purse in her arm: a symbol of status, that she is a mother shopping for a family.
Diners were first built along railroad tracks out of old railcars for working people to grab food in the vicinity of their place of employment.
Pool halls were in bars, where adults were drinking.
Teenagers and children SHOULD have safe places to gather and socialize, but there's still no reason to whitewash history. Children have not been as protected as they should have been. Safe Places for children is a recent invention. Let's not pretend that the textile mill has not been oiled with the blood of child labor.
