That area is your choanae, your internal nostrils. And Kenichthys here is the one to blame for why they're inside your mouth rather than below your eyes.

Most fish have 2 pairs of nostrils; 1 front pair to let water in, and a back pair to let water out. Our ancestor here is the transition point where the rear nostrils went from outside the mouth to inside. It's rear nostrils are in the tooth-row! As for what ecological pressure made that arrangement advantageous I have no idea. I'm no fishologist but if I were to hazard a guess it may have something to do with being able to force water through the nasal sack via the mouth or gills rather than just swimming

It's possible to get ham stuck in your nasal no-ham zone because evolution doesn't make animals perfect, it makes them good-enough. And at one point having your 2nd nostrils in line with your teeth was good enough.

I make art for a living, in my dream career, living in a nice apartment with the love of my life. We have a loft bed and no black mould in the walls, there's food in the fridge and enough grocery money to get something else if the food we have at the house isn't appealing. The weather is nice and the tap water is drinkable. I've got coffee and my meds are working. I make my own work schedules, I have an alarm at 8 am every morning and no obligation to get up when it rings.

There is literally no reason for me to have any sort of stress.

(trying to get my momentum back by drawing prompts and backlogged asks, the prompts for this one were: computer, health and well-being, and an olive/cream/brown color scheme)

this one gave me an idea about an advanced super computer built at a university by students, and he falls in love with the one put in charge of testing his "human interaction and caretaking" protocol. they're a bit apprehensive, obviously.

if the computer can learn to see humans as "good," and meant to be cared for," hopefully he won't go against his programming and try to exterminate them (like many of the university's prototypes). however, he seems to only care for one human in particular...

Can we talk about how actually kind of bad Jon was at the paranoid stalker thing?

He managed to find his coworkers addresses, but that’s not that hard!

He missed all of the suspicious behavior! His big breakthrough was “Sasha‘s kind of off” it took him forever to actually figure it out, and he only figured it out because it was hitting him in the face.

A proficient stalker would’ve figured it out way faster.

Honestly, it makes that season a little less depressing because of how much he sucked at it.
