He tilted his head at her words, eyes squinting up as though he was recalling a memory. “Hm, now that you mention it, you were a bit of an ingenue.” He shot back, though knowing her teasing remark was meant to target him, specifically. “Don’t worry, Freya, I’m sure you’ve gained quite a bit of… Exposure, since then.” He grinned, choosing the pun intentionally. Still, all jests aside he watched her with curious eyes as she lifted the man up to eye-level. Before the latter had so much as a chance to react, she’d plunged her delicate fingers through his chest and extracted his heart in a colourful display of violence.
…
It was bizarre to say the least. The sight would’ve delighted him with most people, but he found it ill-fitting on Freya. He didn’t break his line of sight as she tossed the heart to his feet, lips stretching slowly into a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“Did daddy hit a nerve, Freya, darling?”
Freya had been smiling at herself in pride and accomplishment as Nic watched her from across the pews. Though she knew Nic better than he gave her credit for.. at least she knew his facial expressions better.
The smile was empty for him, as if he were doing it to simply appease a child who had done wrong.. like a child that couldn’t be helped. His questioned burned an unwelcome thought into her mind and she simply tilted her head, not breaking eye contact whats so ever. “He may just have” she answered truthfully, her own voice chilling her. “Would that be a problem?” she asked, refusing to change her tone. Of all of the people in Arcadia, she assumed he would be the least judgmental towards her in this moment, excited even. This slightly confused her. His little Freya wasn’t so sweet after all, she thought.
A small, dark grin touched her lips, “Am I hitting a nerve with you, Nicolas?”
