thank you to all participants for taking the time to create something wonderful for tolkien women’s week! this event would not be possible without you all, whether you participated once or every single day. it breaks my heart that this event is already over, but the seven days we all spent sharing art with one another will never be forgotten! please send a message to @frodosrings or @silme-lorien if there is something incorrect about the way any of your pieces are linked or tagged, we are more than happy to fix any errors. thanks again everyone, this has been a dream!
literally so hilarious how so many tolkien fans are obsessed with canon. there is next to no official canon. the only thing that’s fully canon is the lord of the rings, part of the silmarillion and the hobbit (and that’s debatable, even). tolkien had no idea what was canon, he was switching things up all the time. so just pick a version you like a go with it, nobody knows what’s going on. tolkien changed little details over and over to the point where he never finished most of his work, like 25% of the silmarillion is just christopher tolkien smashing notes together and praying it’s what the vision was
Well… it seems as if Tolkien Women’s Week has come to a close!
What an incredible event; we are so sad that it’s already over but so grateful for everyone who participated and supported alongside!
A quick reminder that our completed master list will be coming out on Sunday night, so if you have late work, please try to get it in by Sunday afternoon at the latest or else it will not end up on the completed master list! (it may, but only on an edited version and that’s if we check this account after that)
Because you’ve shown so much support, we have reached the maximum amount of links possible on our master list! With a bit of editing and condensing, we have spots for five more posts to be linked, so again, if you are handing in late work it is a first come first serve for your post to be linked. If your late work post is unable to be linked, we will still tag your account and give credit for your work of course, our apologies, we did not realize there was only a 100 link maximum per post!
Thank you all so much for sharing your beautiful work. It has brought us so much joy each day watching everyone’s submissions come in and being blown away by everyone’s talent. If you have any last minute questions, feedback, comments, etc, I (frodosrings) will still be lingering on this account until Sunday, so please feel free to send anything to our ask box!
With love and appreciation,
- frodosrings
(major thank you to my wife @silme-lorien for helping me on the backend with this event, it would not be possible without them!)
very small (<400 words) drabble for day seven of @tolkienwomensweek using the prompts visions/prophecy/dreams. Inspired by the scene in ROTK when Arwen has visions of her future child while on her way to sail to Valinor!
A child, my child, running in the brush as I ride to the shore which will lead me away from him. I know he is mine by his pale eyes and the deep root forming within my stomach telling me to turn around. I pull the reigns of my horse so tightly that I can feel the sting of leather across my palms.
My eyes remain on him as he laughs, as he prances without care. It is like my chest has been emptied for my heart beats now within him. The earth around me has stilled for it now revolves around him. And then, as if I could not be even more transfixed, he jumps into the arms of Aragorn. This is the future I am leaving behind for an eternity across the sea; I see it so vividly and tangible ahead of me but I do not dare hold out my hand for what if I smear it away?
My mother comes to mind first, before my father and before everyone else. I focus my sights the other way and pray for her to appear just as real as my baby, but she does not. Silently I beg for her to show me the life I will have across the sea; I beg for her to call me across the water so that I do not disappoint my father and abandon the rest of my blood, but she does not. I still hear the laughs of my baby and the voice of my love behind my shoulders, pushing my body to turn around and ride back to where I know I can find the start of this future.
I close my eyes now as the burden of choosing one family over another looms above my shoulders. It is then a voice, soft and familiar, dances in my mind.
Arwen,
It says — it is my mother
I understand.
And it is then I grab the reigns impossibly tighter and turn around. I am going home; I am choosing a life I desire, even if it is miniscule in reference to eternity.
i swear to the gods i will post something later today for tolkienwomensweek, GAHHH!!! look at me the event runner with no pieces done, oh well, things happen, i apologize for my slacking off but ive been very focused on applying for my masters and finishing the classes i am doing right now to prepare for that! life is crazy, but im setting aside time today to write something for the event, and then its goodbye tumblr!
if it hasn’t already been obvious enough by my constant long absences combined with very short periods of time back, this tumblr account shall be coming to a close!
i adore lotr and tolkien still to this day, but sadly my passion for it has definitely died down, i suppose you could say about a three-ish year long hyperfixation has ended! i have also been completely off social media since the end of last year (minus going back on instagram every now and then) so it’s brought my motivation to post anything at all way down, though for the better because i’ve been thoroughly enjoying life offline! i’m also just super busy with college and applying for universities etc, no time for tumblr! i’ll still be periodically scrolling and reblogging things on my sideblog, but i will no longer be making any tolkien content or writing fics (aside from fics i have planned for tww).
HOWEVER:;:;:; i am still running @tolkienwomensweek in january, and will be fully here for that. i’ve worked really hard to create this fandom event and im super excited for it! please check it out if you haven’t already!
i suppose i just wanted to say thanks for everything! i made this account back in december and to think ive amassed almost 1000 followers and many friends from my bullshit lotr shitposts is so awesome, i wouldn’t trade it for the world! i apologize i couldn’t stick around for as long as i’d hoped, but i am forever grateful for the friends ive made and for being embraced so warmly by the community!
if any mutuals would like to stay in touch, please message me so we can exchange discords/instagrams!
Welcoming all Tolkien fans to a brand new fandom event, Tolkien Women’s Week, which will run from January 8th-14th, 2026.
This is a week where we can celebrate all of the wonderful women from Tolkien’s legendarium by creating dedicated original pieces for them.
Rules and event information below, please take a read if you are interested in participating :)
Rules:
Each day will have four prompts (as listed in the graphic above and below), and you may choose any of them to create a work of fiction/art/headcanon list/blurb/collage/etc. with any woman of your choice from JRRT's legendarium.
Tag your works with the hashtag #tolkienwomensweek
NSFW is allowed, it is only asked that you tag it accordingly.
Support other participants! No hate or discouragement on any pieces.
Spread the word :) The more, the merrier.
Please tag this account in your pieces as well! This is not mandatory, but it ensures we do not miss it.
Please give your pieces a title, as there will be a completed masterlist once the event is over, and each piece will be alphabetized. Again, this is not mandatory, but if your work is not titled, it will be given a simple name on the masterlist. (ex: Day Two, Artwork by @ ___ )
You have roughly six months to start and finish your pieces (from the time of this announcement), but late submissions are also welcome. However, no early submissions please. Post your pieces on the designated days unless you have late work/fall behind.
We recommend you follow this blog to stay updated on the event. If not, make sure to check the hashtag “#tww update” for posts from moderators about any new rules/changes/answers/updates.
*No work created by the assistance of generative A.I. will be reblogged on the official Tolkien Women's Week blog, and it will not be supported by the event runners. If work utilizing A.I. is posted in the AO3 collection for the event, it will be removed by the moderators.*
Prompts:
Day 1: Love / Family / Lineage / Companionship
Day 2: Betrayal / Curse / Spells / Enchant
Day 3: Valinor / Journey / Death / Creation
Day 4: Song / Language / Culture / Tradition
Day 5: Fight / Sacrifice / Protest / Battle
Day 6: Heartbreak / Longing / Determination / Reunite
Day 7: Stars / Dream / Prophecy / Visions
Questions? If not answered below, please send an ask:
Can you create a piece for the same woman more than once?
Yes! Do not feel like you have to create a piece for someone different each day, especially if you have ideas for the same woman over multiple days/prompts.
Also, if you wish to create a single piece utilizing more than one character, you are very welcome to do so!
If I can only participate for a few days/one day, is that alright?
Yes! Participate as much or as little as you want. If you’re very inspired, feel free to submit multiple pieces on the same day. If a prompt doesn’t inspire you, don’t waste time on it!
Will there be an AO3 collection for the event?
Yes! Coming closer to the event, keep your eyes peeled . . .
Exactly what Tolkien women are allowed in the event?
All of them! Any character from LOTR, The Silmarillion, etc. We welcome women of all the races of Middle-Earth (human, elf, dwarf, hobbit, ainur, ent, orc, animal; quite literally any of Tolkien’s female characters) regardless of how much or how little screentime/pagetime they have. You want to create 10 works for Arwen? Go for it! You want to create 10 works for someone who was mentioned in one lone sentence in a single book who had no dialogue? Do it!!
We politely ask that OCs remain separate from this event, not because they are not valid, but because this event was created to celebrate the women created and written by Tolkien himself. However, if an OC is created for a Tolkien character we know exists in canon but was not written about, feel free to give her a voice (example may be the wife of Thranduil/mother of Legolas; we know she exists in the canon lore but we are given almost zero information about her).
With this reasoning in mind, we also ask that characters from ROP who are not canon to the world of Tolkien be excluded from this event, but if you would like to utilize the way a canonical JRRT character is depicted in ROP (example may be young Galadriel), you are more than welcome to do so. Though we do love the ladies of ROP, we want this event to be central to Tolkien and his own works! :)
If, however, you feel very very strongly for the women in ROP or other works not created by Tolkien himself (ex, Tauriel from The Hobbit movies), we will not stop you, and will still reblog your piece to the official event blog. At its core, this event is here to celebrate your creativity.
Who is running this event?
@frodosrings and @silme-lorien :) Hi! Any questions about the event may also be sent to either of our personal ask boxes.
What can we submit?
Anything you want, as long as it is created by you. Any creative endeavour is accepted. Fics, Artwork, Headcanons, Blurbs, Crafts, Edits, Gif Sets, Collages, etc. are all welcome.
Go by this rule: if you made it and it follows a daily prompt utilizing a female character from a Tolkien work, then it is more than welcome!
Do our pieces have to be canonical to the lore as it is written by Tolkien?
Not necessarily! You are more than welcome to bring any of these ladies to the modern world or any au you have in mind, create a piece about experiences they may have had which were not directly depicted by JRRT, etc; or stick solely to canon experiences of the female characters as written by JRRT. All we ask is that the daily prompts are followed, and we will not limit your creativity any further than that.
Can the submissions include men from Tolkien’s works as well?
Yes. As long as the focal point of your piece is any of Tolkien’s female characters, you are of course more than welcome to include other characters as part of your work to strengthen your piece and build your story :)
Any comments/concerns/feedback is more than welcome, please feel free to submit any of these questions to our ask box and we will answer. Have fun, and be on the lookout for updates!

Day Seven of our event Tolkien Women's Week celebrates themes of the mind, the sky, and knowledge. We are celebrating this day on January 14th, 2026.
What does the night sky tell us? Do you search for constellations in the stars above? What lives amongst the stars? Would you collect them for someone you love? If you could speak to them, what would you say? Would they answer? Do they guide us?
What do you see when you sleep? Do you remember when you wake up, do you tell others? Is it wonderful, is it frightening? Do you dream for the same things night after night? Are these dreams secret desires, images of the future, memories of the past?
Do you have a role to fulfil? What is expected of you? Is it a heavy burden? Can you see the lives of others, the outcomes of situations that have not yet happened? Have you been read like a book by someone who you thought did not know you?
Get inspired for Day Seven of Tolkien Women's Week, and if you already have ideas, feel free to share them! We would love to know which woman/women you feel fit these prompts perfectly, and what you plan on doing with them!
Tolkien Women's Week is about four months away, start your creating 💭✨
Don't know about Tolkien Women's Week? Check our pinned :)
have you ever noticed how many of tolkiens characters are connected to the sea? or that quite a few water-related events take place throughout the ages? have you ever wanted to explore elven sea-longing or the vast mystery of what goes on underneath the waves in your work? do you love characters like ulmo, elwing, maglor and tuor? then come join tolkien sea week! a week for celebrating the repeated water and sea motifs in tolkiens work 🌊
written prompts, rules, and faq below ༄.°
prompts ⋆˙⟡
➛ day one: yearning, unrest, wandering
➛ day two: sailing, new beginnings, love
➛ day three: lurking, danger, fear
➛ day four: melancholy, nolstalgia, past life
➛ day five: tranquility, comfort, family
➛ day six: insanity, mortality, endings
➛ day seven: escape, avoidance, freedom
rules ⋆˙⟡
𖥔 you can use any of the three words listed in the prompts for each day to inspire you to create something related to the sea within tolkien’s legendarium.
𖥔 when posting, tag @tolkienseaweek and use the hashtag #tolkienseaweek so we don’t miss your work! if you don’t do this, there is a pretty slim chance that your work will be seen by the moderators.
𖥔 you can create any kind of work you like! fanfic, art, moodboard, headcanons, gifsets, poems, anything you want.
𖥔 if you are posting your work on ao3, please add it to the collection that will be linked soon.
𖥔 please give your work a title so we are able to list all the works at the end of the event in a masterlist. if you don’t, it will be called something like “day four” or “day seven”.
𖥔 you may post nsfw works, but please tag them accordingly. the same goes for extremely triggering topics, since this event can have heavier/angstier elements.
𖥔 absolutely no works using generative AI. if it is evident that gen AI was used in the creation of your work, it will not be reblogged onto the event account or endorsed by event runners.
𖥔 late submissions are accepted, both during the event and after the event ends! we will check the event tag for about a week after the event ends once a day, and past that you must tag either @tolkienseaweek or @silme-lorien if you want your work reblogged and added to the masterlist.
questions? check here ⋆˙⟡
what constitutes a character or event being connected to water?
if the character or event you are creating a work around has a main plot point that involves the sea, a river, a lake, or any body of water of that nature, it counts. we do ask that your work actually depicts the characters connection to the water (ie, because niënor throws herself into the sea, she counts. but writing a fic about her searching for túrin would not count unless you can incorporate the sea into that). if you have more specific questions, send an ask!
do my works have to be in-universe?
not at all! i don’t want to limit your creativity. but please, if you are going to create a work in an alternate universe, ensure that the character or event you are depicting maintains it’s connection to the water. it must be involved in your work in some way.
are original characters allowed?
sure! as long as you can connect them to tolkiens works and the sea, go ahead.
is it okay if i can’t do all the days?
of course! you can participate in one or all the days. whatever inspires you!
⋆ if you have a question and it was not answered here or you need more clarification, you can send an ask to the event blog’s inbox or @silme-lorien
we look forward to seeing your contributions ! see you in february, and keep an eye out for updates… 🌊 🦢
