if mike could have anything in the world , it’d be to have everyone back in hawkins , together again . to have his best friend back . he hasn’t lived a year without will since he was FOUR . . . and in some ways , mike took it for granted . he never had to worry about whether he’d be there . as far as he was concerned , will was always a bike ride away , reachable with just the switch of a button and some STATIC . california’s harder . it takes more THOUGHT , and mike doesn’t do so well with what’s stuck in his head . there’s so much that goes into writing a letter . how to start , how to stop , how to sign it . and what’s he supposed to write about , anyways ? the freakin’ weather ? every time he tries to put pencil to paper , he just feels so STUPID. so , somewhere along the way , it became easier to give it up . they’d see each other over spring break , and then none of this would matter . they’d be able to pick back up , right where they left off . YET HERE THEY ARE . stiff . tense . on the verge of something mike doesn’t know how to deal with . so . . . he tackles it the same way he always has . 𝙻𝙰𝚈𝙴𝚁 𝟶𝟶𝟷 : 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄.
NAME : michael theodore wheeler
EYE COLOR : green
HAIR STYLE / COLOR : dark brown hair with long, wavy layers and a bit of a shaggy hairline falling right above his eyes. his hair often appears disheveled, and that’s because it usually is !
HEIGHT : 5 ′ 10 ″
CLOTHING STYLE : mike’s never cared too much about the way he’s dressed. he let his mother buy all his clothes from the gap up until halfway through his first year of high school, when he finally started letting his own style shine through. it used to be a lot of striped tees, polos, collared rugby tees, knee-high socks, denim jeans, drawstring shorts, tacky sneakers, windbreakers, utility wrist watches. as he grows up, he strays toward a grungier style — black ripped jeans, converse, flannels, band tees, button downs. that’s not to say he’s any less of a mess — he wore cargo shorts, flip flops, and a visor all through his trip in california, so . . . it’s safe to say he needs a bit of help !
BEST PHYSICAL FEATURE : definitely his hair.
𝙻𝙰𝚈𝙴𝚁 𝟶𝟶𝟸 : 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄.
FEARS : he likes to appear fearless, but of course he’s afraid. he’s afraid of losing the people he loves, not being there for his friends, being too vulnerable, monsters, the upside down, giving up, losing hope — just to name a few.
GUILTY PLEASURE : mike’s trying not to do the whole “ guilty pleasure ” thing anymore. it used to be dungeons & dragons . . . nowadays, it might be john hughes films. he claims they suck, but if you turned one on, he’d surely sit around and enjoy it !
BIGGEST PET PEEVE : when people don’t listen to him !!
AMBITIONS FOR THE FUTURE : it’s hard to look ahead when he feels like he rarely gets a chance to rest in the present. he likes writing. he likes storytelling. he definitely wants to do something creative when he’s older . . . but who knows ! he figures he’s got more pressing matters to worry about right now.
𝙻𝙰𝚈𝙴𝚁 𝟶𝟶𝟹 : 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒.
FIRST THOUGHTS WAKING UP : there’s a slight sense of dread . . . he swears he just needs five more minutes !
WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT MOST : it’s easy for mike to get stuck in his own head. he’s got a lot on his shoulders — whether self-inflicted or not — and it’s hard for him to communicate the way he’s feeling without the overwhelming fear that he’ll appear weak or inferior. he doesn’t confront his trauma, and it catches up with him if he’s alone for too long.
WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT BEFORE BED : he tries not to think too much before bed. sometimes the best thing to do is curl up with a book or his favorite record and try to escape as he drifts to sleep.
WHAT THEY THINK THEIR BEST QUALITY IS : his leadership. sometimes he relies too heavily on this — it’d do him well to let it go and just feel his emotions as they come.
