If I hadn't read CS Pacat before I don't think I would've picked up Dark Rise based on that blurb on Goodreads. It's not usually what I gravitate towards. YA, historical setting with magic(?) and the first half of DR was draggy as hell. Thank the heavens in Pacat we trust. Which makes me wonder how many books have I missed out on just cus I don't vibe with the blurb, tags or reviews (mostly the first one). But if something piqued my interest, I do read the first available pages so I don't think I've missed that many. Growing up, the downfall of being a bookworm is that you get really picky (at least and unfortunately I'm that way) and can tell how the story unfolds, can guess the major plot points, can tell early on if the writing is for me or isn't. And I usually do not stick to the same writers (there are some, but few), but I feel like Pacat could write how their local pigeons made some shabby nest somewhere and I would still read it and cheer along. Anyhow, still no news about Dark King? I'm telling you either it got pushed back (again) to early 2027 or it comes out later this fall.
So idk why but I’m reading Babel rn and I’m on page 100 where Griffin explains why Babel is bad for hoarding silver bars(?) and the way I understood is is that Griffin thinks it’s unjust for Britain to have most of the world’s silver bars when you need other languages to make them work. But I don’t understand how this is unjust? Am I missing something? I get that they’re using the bars to invade other countries and all but I feel like if the bars are used as weapons it’s perfectly understandable why Britain doesn’t wanna give them away and I also don’t understand why the other countries don’t just mine their own silver and make their own bars and why Britain must hive them bars? What am I missing?

The best thing about Shen Qingqiu being an unreliable narrator is that there is nothing to contradict the idea that there are some absolutely buckwild shenanigans going on in the background. He simply doesn't pay attention to things not related to Luo Binghe.
Ming Fan is growing weed behind the dorms. Some unnamed Qing Jing disciples got together and formed a boy band. Wei Qingwei has been divorced seven times. The unnamed beast peak lord likes to collect cursed dolls and the unnamed artifact peak lord would please like them to stop that. There's weekly poker nights where Ning Yingying regularly clears people out. One of the unnamed peaks is really into volleyball and things get so intense you could make a whole sports anime out of it. Mu Qingfang has an identical twin brother who doesn't have a mustache. Someone important got turned into a horse for a week and continued doing their job like it was normal.
