She suffered under the same man as he did, right? So why are her feelings so hard to dissect? (This is not a story about Shen Qingqiu, regardless of how badly Luo Binghe would like it to be.)

if you're sitting on a fanfic idea because you think it's "too weird" or "too niche" I need you to understand something: the internet is VAST and FULL of people with your exact brand of weird. that crackship that makes sense only to you? there are at least 50 people who will read it and go "oh my god FINALLY." but even if there were ZERO? you still deserve to write the thing that makes your brain light up.

Summary:

Love Is (Not) A Zero Sum Game: I go back and forth on the knife killing him or not, loving who someone used to be vs loving who they are now, but overall I more land on the side of it working.
Back to Life by iguana8llama was good, thanks for the rec! Lmao definitely more gory than I expected, but I really loved how complex all the characterization was. NYY was bitter and cruel in a way that didn't feel over the top. And it really hit hard how LQG would be disappointed in LMY's actions in PIDW. Such a bittersweet ending!

Real thing that changed how i write: I started asking "what does this character think is wrong with them" and separately "what is actually wrong with them." Those two things are almost never the same. She thinks she's too much. She's actually terrified of being too little. He thinks he's bad at commitment. He's actually just never met someone he trusted enough. The gap between their diagnosis of themselves and the real thing, that's your character arc right there. you don't have to explain it. just write both.
We all love the idea that the disciples of An Din Peak know about and have accepted that their shizun is colluding with demons. The idea that they have all assumed that Shang Qinghua and Mobei Jun are in a committed relationship and have universally decided to look the other way whenever faced with evidence of Mobei Jun's presence, while Shang Qinghua is still utterly oblivious to Mobei Jun's shameless courtship attempts is also gold. (I mean, just imagine the hushed conversations those disciples must have had when Liu Mingyan and the Qing Jing Peak disciples started spinning stories about Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe's theoretical relationship when they were all convinced they were sitting on the details of an actual forbidden romance.)
But I think this gets even better when you add in the idea of Mobei Jun getting frustrated in his attempts to win his strange little human's affection, and, in his pettier moments, deliberately trying to get caught by these kids who refuse to catch him.
Just imagine Mobei Jun, thinking that if he exposes Shang Qinghua as a traitor, then his human will have to seek refuge in the Ice Palace, and Mobei Jun can sweep him off his feet and into the nearest set of wedding robes. So, when Qinghua's not around, Mobei hunts down whatever closet Qinghua keeps Mobei's spare boots and fur-lined cloaks in and flings them across his floor to be discovered. He starts leaving the traditional animal-head courting gifts out on Qinghua's doorstep instead of on his desk. He "accidentally" encases half of Qinghua's leisure house in ice in the middle of summer. At one point, he heard disciples walking by and marched outside in full daylight, and still the children did not turn their heads to see the massive ice demon standing just outside their shizun's doorway.
Mobei Jun is starting to think that being very, very dense might just be one of the requirements for study on An Ding Peak. Meanwhile, Airplane is having a heart attack every other day from trying to cover up these stealth fails that no one cares about.
I dunno, I just think there's something so funny in that.

I like the idea of Ning Yingying having to try to be considered an adult. She's been babied for so long and she wants to prove she is can handle herself. She tried to prove she can fight just as well as her Shixiong and Shijie, can strategise and gather information and can excel in the scholarly arts, is just in general at 24 years old and should have been considered an adult long ago.
But she's cutesy, and small, and still has her dolls from when she was a child that she treats with more emotion than 'a nostalgic relic from her past'. To grow up does she really have to change from being herself?
I just really like the idea of those around her misunderstanding her, and in a time of so much change, trying to keep her locked into childhood so there is always something to count on when the world feels like it is moving too fast. But she never asked for this. She never wanted to live the weightlessness of childhood forever while also bearing the weight of the sects expectations.
