"Kageyama, you seein this? This isn't just me right?" Tanaka turns Hinata towards the tall boy in question and... Gods does he look rough. His hair is more disheveled than usual and Tanaka is right, he looks nauseous.

Luckily the next couple practices are geared towards receives, which he needs to work on desperately. Hinata assures Ukai that he can do it, his arm is healed enough, but after five or so hard receives Ukai forces him to take a break, picking up on how much it hurt. Great. Now what else is there to do besides wallow and watch the others practice. He can't even practice the new quick attacks and Kageyama won't look at him, so this entire practice is a bust.

Kageyama didn’t want to be so cold, as usual, but he was just too distracted to handle anything upfront. He was distracting himself with distractions, because if he didn’t, he’d distracted in other ways. Confusing, yes, but that’s his entire life right now. It was like a ping-pong ball was bouncing around in his head, hitting all the wrong buttons, and forcing him to bury himself in practice. And if not practice, then anything else. Just not Hinata. That kid’s probably the biggest distraction.. ..Obviously for other reasons. Nothing strange here. Not that there’d be anything wrong with that, though.

Practice felt complete again, their entire team being able to play this time. It was nice, watching all Hinata’s excitement pour out, finally being able to really test these new sets, with everyone watching. It was just as exciting for Kageyama, too! It’s just...

..After the practice-run, it’s not so fun anymore.

His shoulders raised at the question, tensing up just as before. “H’ah?” He started, backing up and using a rather confrontational tone. “Why wouldn’t I be good? We did really well today, I don’t.. Heh, y’know. I’m good.”

"Kageyama didn't you say you were going to try and communicate." Hinata deadpans as he rolls up and stuffs his uniform into his duffel bag again with his volleyball shoes. "It's me, are you really going to be touchy about it? You just seemed... Tense for a while. Just a little concerned for you that's all."

Kageyama gave an uncomfortable sigh, shuddering after. He leaned on his weight, kept his eyes to the side, and grumbled. He doesn’t wanna say anything.. How could he? “It’s fine. I’m, I’m good, it’s okay. It, uuuhh... I don’t.. I don’t do hugs.” This little fibber toyed with his jacket sleeve while speaking, clearing his throat after, and taking another step back. It was small, but, noticeable. His cheeks are also heated as before, something he can’t help.

Hinata stands and approaches Kageyama, tilting his head. "It's fine if you don't want to tell me, just say that." He sighs. "But when I try to care for you and you lie to me, it doesn't exactly make this whole relationship easier you know." He sighs again and brushes past Kageyama out of the club room doors.

Kageyama stayed quiet, just wishing so bad for this discussion to be over. He let out a breath of relief once Hinata left, being able to pick up his things and go. ...Now, carrying an odd guilt on his shoulders, which weighed them down. He had to lie.. He’s still positive that these intrusive thoughts are simply nothing, so, to Kageyama, they aren’t even there. When Hinata isn’t around, anyway. If he just said he didn’t want to talk, he’s worried his teammates would press him. He’s way too paranoid over feelings that mean nothing...

Once he had everything packed, Kageyama left the clubroom, keeping his head lowered while thinking, somewhat racing to get out of everybodies line of sight while he’s moody. Explaining himself in this state just sounds exhausting.

Two months. Hinata was out of practice and volleyball completely for TWO MONTHS. He didn't bother to tell anybody his cast got taken off, that's why he's missed the previous day of school and practice. He takes in a breath as he watches their practice that Saturday morning. Nobody knew he could play again. Thankfully his right arm hadn't been broken, it was just his left, preventing him from receiving. But he'd been practicing spikes as carefully as possible while he was out for eight weeks. Kageyama's practicing his sets... There's a perfect opportunity. Hinata takes it.

His bag is set at the door and he runs in, already changed, to jump and slap the ball down. The shock on his team's faces just makes him grin. Especially Kageyama's.

Two months. Kageyama was practicing, training, and waiting, for two whole months, focusing primarily on volleyball. He completely buried himself in the game. He hasn’t dropped his self-care, however, working hard to be more positive and kinder to those stuck with him. He’s made... Decent progress. But, there’s a kind of problem. One that’s completely foreign to Kageyama, he has no idea how to handle it. So.. He doesn’t. He ignores it, spending all his time avoiding such thoughts, letting them fester behind the scenes while he goes on his merry way, just to repeat the process over again. This little problem could potentially be connected with his recent new behavior towards Hinata, and how strangely easy it is to be nice, specifically to him. Especially since they were rivals for such a large majority of their time together..

It was one of those burying moments. Hinata didn’t come in yesterday, and it kick-started a long line of thoughts and wonders. Thoughts and worries. Was he going to show up today? Maybe he got hurt again? Did something happen that made him mad, so he stayed back? What did Kageyama do now? It kept him distracted all day, without reason. All he could do now wa-

The room became cold as the ball was impacted. A jolt of surprise shot up his spine, getting him to stumble before looking over, a wide, very wide smile creeping onto his lips. With stars in his eyes, Kageyama gave a laugh, and trailed over. “Hinata! Look at you! You’re.. You’re better! That was great!..”

Hinata lights up as Ukai and the team praise his shot and return, but he just launches himself at Kageyama for a tight hug before he pulls back. "Yeah! Yeah I got my cast off yesterday. I'll have to avoid receives for a bit while it finishes healing entirely but I can play now!" The grin on his face never falters. "I missed the game so much, honestly."

"We're glad to have you back, Hinata," Daichi smiles and pats his shoulder, continuing with their practice after sufficient praising.

Kageyama was taken completely by surprise, freezing in the others grip. His face was bright red, and his breath has completely stopped. It took a good second to come back to reality, forcing out obvious, unenthusiastic chuckles as he turned away from everyone else, waiting for the discoloration on his cheeks to cool. He was very thankful that the rest of the team was able to take the stage, keeping attention off himself.

Once he was ready, he took a big breath and turned back, going on like his massive pause didn’t happen. “Looking forward to playing with you, Hinata. Welcome back.” He brought a hand to the shorters shoulder, giving a firm pat.

He takes his hand to help him to his feet, stalling holding Kageyama's warm palm against his before he puts it back at his side shyly and grabs his bag. "Don't stress about stuff alright? I know you tend to do that especially during practice. Just keep working on new sets for me, kay?"

The ginger offers one more smile before they return and Hinata sits on the bench on the sidelines, watching the practice a little more intently now, focused. Studying.

The setter gave a softer giggle, hoisting Hinata up, and... Seeming to stall just the same. He laughed awkwardly after their hands parted, taking a step back to emphasize their distance with a hand rubbing the back of his neck, working on a proper verbal response.

Aaaand they’re back inside, continuing practice as usual! There is absolutely nothing wrong with admitting to yourself that intimacy is nice. Nevertheless, Kageyama took Hinata’s request to heart, plotting exactly to work on new and improved sets, for whenever they may preform together again.

Listening to him list all that off slowly drained his grin, making him sigh deeply, and begin to tap his index finger. Now, that would be a good question, if Hinata didn’t already answer it. “That.” He started off simply. “I’m.. Too mean. Mean and angry, all the time. Makes it hard to talk to anyone. Kind of cynical, on top of it all.. Being able to just get along would really help with.. Mentality and things, I think.”

He blindly rambled, ‘forgetting’ to include that the main push was influenced entirely by what happened the other day. He’s been trying to work on his attitude, sure, but that was the kick-starter.

Hinata nods, turning his head slightly to look at him as he spoke. "So, you want to try and get along then? For real?" It was a little hard to believe, honestly. Kageyama wanting to be nice but. Maybe he really was. "I only faught with you because you humiliated me in middle school and always say you didn't need me."

Kageyama let out a heavy exhale, drawing shapes on his knee with his finger, which has stopped tapping. “I’d.. Like to get along. For real. You don’t owe me anything, though. If there’s some kind of.. Resentment, or whatever, I can’t blame you. I haven’t been fair to you, ooorr many others on our team.” When alone, and when unfocused, Kageyama really has the ability to speak out. There’s a reason why he hasn’t look at Hinata while speaking. He’s afraid he won’t be able to continue if he does. “I’d like to think I’m better now than I was then?.. I-I mean, I- I’ll try to stop bickering and stuff, if that’s.. That’ll make it easier on you.”

Hinata chuckles a little bit. "That's too far, I think it would be weird if we didn't bicker. Just maybe dont take it so far? Or make it so intense either." He shrugs. "You don't have to be too nice to me, Kageyama. But there is probably gonna be a little resentment. For a while at least. Given everything that has happened between us."

This time, Kageyama nodded, tilting his head over. “I get it.. I guess we’ll just have to.. Hangout more, or something. Actually talk, and not just about the game, or.. Where we’re gonna sit on the bus, or stupid stuff like that.” He chuckled after speaking, beginning to stretch his shoulders, and give a groan of a yawn. Now, that’s not what he expected. His fists clenched, followed into him smacking his forehead, resting his hand there. ‘Course he messed it up again, how could he not? He didn’t mean to.. ..The way Hinata looked at him, man. He really doesn’t deserve any of this bull, especially not so early. With some minor debating, Kageyama sighed, and.. Eeehhhhgg... Decided to follow. Slowly, he made his way to the doors and poked his head out, making his re-appearance.

“...Hinata.” He chimed softly, awkwardly stepping over and his arms crossed over his stomach. It feels very freeing to be away for a moment..

Hinata sits on the ground his head against his bag that sits in his lap. He doesn't bother looking up at him. "Kageyama." He greets back awkwardly, broken arm at his side and the other wrapped around the bag in his lap. He sighs, sniffling and holding on tighter.

"I didn't mean to make a scene."

Thank God Hinata wasn’t looking, because Kageyama’s face dropped low. It was genuinely sad, for some reason. He slowly trailed over, finding a spot next to the other and sitting with him, an awkward throat clear following. How does he even start? A second time, I mean? He already screwed up... Multiple times. He wants to make it better, for real this time.

“...This one was my fault. You’re okay..” He basically mumbled, exhaling softly while thinking. He glanced over at the other, slipping into a slightly pouty expression, continuing from there. “...I don’t think you’re fragile. I’m not good at.. Their Nekoma game. Practice game, he was reminded of consistently on the drive over, even hurling on Tanaka on the bus. Hopefully it would be better after they got some jitters out practicing.
