“Forgotten Memories Of The Joyous Circus”

Julia Murakami’s work in progress series of photographs is a visual exploration into the dingy, surreal world of the fictional Joyous Circus. In her photographs she portraits the denizens, whimsical hybrid creatures, of this lost and forgotten place in an intimate way. Hidden references to her former works, such as the white poodle in the curtain from the OUAT series, are playful  intertwined “cameo appearances” of the protagonists that connect the story in her collages. The Joyous Circus is a place where forgotten memories find a home, reconstructed as an fairy tale.
