Long Live Living (If Living Can Be This)
Summary: It's the final summer before university, and Sirius has a sneaking suspicion he's missing something. A summer of pillow-forts, drinking & numerous re-watches of Dirty Dancing ensues. Non-magical AU set in Warwick Castle.
Review: A absolutely lovely Marauders era alternate universe. The story's centred around the Moony/Padfoot and Jily ships. I've never really shipped Remus with Sirius before, probably because I don't see much chemistry between them both in the movies and in the books, but I certainly saw it in this fic! The four marauders are written wonderfully - even the scoundrel Pettigrew is done justice. I loved the little hints dropped in the beginning of the story making Hogwarts references and sort, they tickled my tummy! (You'll know what I'm talking about if you read it.) I loved Dumbledore's appearance in this fic and Sirius' star-crossed fixation with him. The author's manner of writing was hilarious and stoic, with the right amounts of both satire and sarcasm - seriously. Go read it. No regrets.

Summary: Sometimes, only sometimes, when Sherlock is very far away and absolutely guaranteed not to return for at least three hours, John sits on the sofa and lets the tea make itself.
In which John is (reluctantly) a wizard, Mycroft is (apparently) omniscient, and Sherlock is (surprisingly) oblivious.
Review: This was a delicate take on wizard!john. I liked how much of character was written into him in so few words, I liked how plausible his view of the wizarding war and I especially liked how he executed Sherlock's escape. Potter makes a special appearance halfway through, and that was nice! There's really not much to say for so short a fic. It was a nice read, though.

The Adventures of a Single Girl in London (Plus a Consulting Detective)
Summary: Sherlock Holmes keeps choosing flatmates who fancy themselves to be bloggers.
Review: I liked, from the very beginning, the author's ambition to clean up the mess they left behind with the end of Season 3. I loved how Janine plays a crucial role in this piece, how she's written perfectly and her attitude wonderfully captured in the spirit of, at first, helping Sherlock get over John and then, towards the end, making sure they don't make the same darn mistakes again. Basically, imagine what you would do if you were given the chance to make JohnLock happen, and that was what this fic was about.
Towards the end I was rather discomfited by the amount of emotion Sherlock was made to show (I suppose I'm a rude stickler for the stone-cold demeanour Sherlock usually portrays) and the dialogue between Sherlock and John was more often than not a monologue on one side, with a lot of repetition that threw me off from time to time. The author's take on Moriarty's "Miss me?" trick was amusing, but it was only mentioned in one sentence in the middle of a vague paragraph and I almost didn't catch it. I'd have loved it if she elaborated a bit more on that. But, well, overall - no regrets.

Saving Sherlock Holmes
Summary: Sherlock Holmes, schoolboy. Yeah, that basically sums it up.

Brilliant. Fantastic. Brilliantly fantastic. Fantastically brilliant. This was off the scale! I don't usually read kid!locks because, I mean, meh. So I really wasn't expecting much with this fic, and I mean the summary wasn't captivating, so I thought okay I'll skim through it and write a review and grab a cuppa and be done with it all. Boy, was I wrong.
This is the best kid!lock fic in the history of kid!lock fics. Downloading this one right before my exams begun was the biggest mistake ever, because I absolutely couldn't stop reading it! It's forty-seven chapters of pure brilliance. Okay, wait, I'll actually get to the proper review in a bit. So it starts out with the death of Mrs. Holmes, and shows us how Sherlock deals with it, and how Mycroft deals with Sherlock, and how Mrs. Hudson enters the picture to deal with them both. And then we're transported to Eton, where sixteen-year-old Sherlock meets seventeen-year-old John and tons of fluff ensues. In the meanwhile, Mycroft finds himself acquainted with Lestrade and then there's a dog and there's Angelo and yum.
Moriarty is incorporated into this piece in such a way that you barely see him coming until he's directly upon you. The final few chapters had me on edge! It feels like the author managed to fit all nine episodes of Sherlock into this magnificently crafted fic, and by the time I reached the end I was so devastated that it was over. I'm more than sure this was a fandom classic, and if you can deal with Sherlock and John in a boarding school sharing a room and lots of secrets, and a Mystrade relationship that isn't quite drawn out but there all the same, this fic is definitely for you.
((The only real problem I had with this piece was that it was entirely based in London/the UK and yet the author spelled words like "colour" and "rumour" without the u but it's really tiny and I'm a Grammar nazi at times so I suppose I can possibly live with it.))

Potential Gravity
Summary: Draco is not good at Cards Against Humanity, but Harry’s not good at being human, so it all works out. Except for the explosions. And Harry’s inability to live when Draco’s not around.
Review: I admit I'm becoming quiet attached to zeitgeistic's writing. In this fic, we basically have Potter and Malfoy as (ex)auror partners, and then there's some pining!Harry and Luna as a mind healer, after which we move to Beirut and enjoy glorious smut and confused emotions. Overall a lovely read, characterisation was spot on and Draco was a sexy mess, and really, that's all we can ever ask for.

More frightening than its skeleton
Summary: Molly has given a lot to Sherlock, but she's always got a little more to give. Covers the hours after Sherlock's jump, when Molly keeps both herself and him together.
Review: This was a very angsty fic, but having said it was beautifully written. It outlines the author's take on how Sherlock escaped the clutches of death (aka an alternate sequel to the The Reichanwhatsit Fall) and features majorly and solely Molly Hooper and Sherlock Holmes. I'd label the ship Sherlolly although it's more of a pining!Molly but be warned - it features, as the author puts it, "Molly's quiet badassery when shit gets real". We get to see this other side of Molly that's never portrayed in the series but obviously exists, and we also find out what Sherlock really meant when he said he needed Molly.

Summary: Now that Harry is back at Hogwarts with Hermione for eighth year, he realises that something’s missing from his life, and it either has to do with Ron, his boggart, Snape, or Malfoy. Furthermore, what, exactly, does it mean when one’s life is defined by the desire to simultaneously impress and annoy a portrait? Harry has no idea; he’s too busy trying not to be in love with Malfoy to care.
Review: All I can say is, hrng. (I lied. I can say way more.) This fic was brilliant! There is really no other way to put it. I was enthralled from the very beginning - the grammar was perfect, the humour was there (and in good abundance) and the characterisation was. Just. Hrng. The way I see it, the fic was divided into two parts: one where Harry, Draco and company return to Hogwarts as Eighth Years and the other, when Harry and Draco come back as apprentices. It had a lovely, totally plausible and frankly impeccable plot line. Alchemy! And the real sort of alchemy, too. It made me want to learn my chemistry and turn lead to gold, I swear it did. I'm not going to say anything more because I'm literally lost for words, except for this: Read it. Now.

Here's The Pencil, Make It Work
Summary: Harry thinks "Why is Malfoy working in a coffee shop in muggle London?" is a much simpler question than, "Are you going to accept that auror offer and, if you don't, what will you do?"
Review: As post-war fics go, this is the best one I've read so far. Potter runs into Malfoy by chance on three separate occasions and in interesting situations. The Muggle world is craftily incorporated in the lives of our four main protagonists, Ginny is written beautifully and the entire plot wraps up rather neatly. I'd label this as fluff but it's also got its own fair bit of angst. That's a combination I'll have to admit I'm rather partial to. A+ for characterization, plot and grammar!

Then Comes a Mist and a Weeping Rain
Summary: It always rains for Draco Malfoy. Metaphorically. And literally. Ever since he had accidentally Conjured a cloud. A cloud that's ever so cross.
Review: This was a sweet fic! Draco Conjures a cloud for himself and Madam Pomfrey can't make it go away. Then he finds a peculiar cure to his condition, and lots of fluff ensues! Characterization wasn't very spot on in terms of the fact that Draco was a bit too sweet and nice (both to Goyle and Ernie) for my liking, but it fit in well with the plot line. Perfect for light reading!
