I know I've kind of fallen off this blog the last couple years as I've lost interest in RT, but the RT community was my whole life for over 10 years.

It's pulled me out of many many dark places and let me meet the most amazing people. (Also, shout out to a very close friend of mine who tried to warn me and other friends about how awful RT has been, and we didn't listen.)

Now I'm going to be honest... I almost left the community back in 2016 when I had the worst RTX of my life. (Which I won't go into detail, because it doesn't have anything to do with with the current scandal, and is more personal to me while working as a volunteer)

I think you can clock that year as when I started posting less and less original posts and just began to reblog everything.

Ever since 2019 I've been slowly stripping away RT from my life, with the exception of RWBY.

Hell, just a few moths ago I literally threw away almost all of my RT posters and old shirts! I felt guilty about it at the time. Like i was throwing away a part of my life.

Guess who gets to finish throwing away stuff guilt free now? 😂 I'll still be keeping stuff that has more emotional value, such as my 10 Year RVB Box Set.

As for the future of this blog and and what it'll turning to.

I don't know.

I'll reblog stuff I like to it and will probably use it to vent on shit I've known about for awhile, but not my place to tell other people's stories.

Just know that if I make vague statements about RT employees (past or present) or other topics, I won't be elaborating.

FUCK whoever made the decision to fire all the Head Guardians, and leave long time community guardians to rot so volunteers could be "outsourced". And fuck all the higher ups who treated my friends like garbage after they gave their blood, sweat, tears, and dreams to you.

But THANK YOU to all the hard working RT employees who put out amazing content for so long.

And thank you to anyone who still follows this blog and will continue to do so until the end.

Curious to know your thoughts on Burnie makin Box Canyon productions and buyin RT. I want to have hope that he keeps it a private business and creative, and doesn't step in the same shit he did when initially growing the company with their VA-paying-talent mishaps.

I'm neutral, I guess? I don't have high hopes, but I'm not entirely pessimistic.

Regarding the "Does RWBY like women?" poll (yes, yes it does BTW).

You know... the whole poll debacle reminded me of something.

RWBY helped me expand my media diet by telling me that just because people hate something enmass, it could just all be bullshit coupled with mob mentality.

Instead of hatedoms getting me to think:

"Damn, I don't even wanna be associated with that show based on the rage it inspires."

My more skeptical brain is like:

"Okay, so why is it reeeeeeeally hated? Is it reeeeeeeally bad or are people going along with the crowd because critical thinking is too much of a burden in this capitalist hellscape?"

Because bad media literacy is in part a result of the fact that most geeks and normies alike aren't out to be legit critics but rather just want to enjoy the thing, gush about the thing and so forth. They can't exactly articulate their reasonings why like they're trying to get an A+ in Therapy Studies.

And THAT is how the YouTube Video Essay and Angry Critic scene takes off.

We dunk on the Nostalgia Critic (often for VERY real IRL grievances) but his catchphrase: "I remember it so you don't have to" is something many who'd come after would take to heart. These video maker people are taking about a thing you like and are explaining it in a way you not only agree with but makes you feel vindicated.

Be it for love... or for hate.

Because hatedom circles like the RWDE looks to video essays that reassure them, keep them from doubting their stance on the thing and how they enforce it.

With the burden of actually seeing the thing and thinking hard taken off of them, people can confidently say things like "RWBY prioritizes Jaune" despite not looking at any potential evidence in the show that might contridice it.

Which is why this is a call for everyone to question the popular opinions.

Does Jaune Arc reeeeeeally get that much narrative importance at the expense of the main girls?

Was Jaune reeeeeeeally a self-insert?

Was Ironwood reaaaaaally derailed in his character arc?

Was Adam reeeeeeeeally representative of the Faunus?

Was the Faunus reaaaaaally offensive?

And of course...

Was Monty Oum reeeeeeeeally the only one who's vision matter to the show above all else?

Ask yourself these questions and do the work to back them up. If people are giving you responses that contridict you, responses that take evidence from the work itself more often than not, then try to do the same in turn.

Think about that show or movie being panned? What if... you actually like it?

Not everybody is a critic... but we can at least try to.

There's something kinda funny about how RWBY just absolutely refuses to die despite a constant stream of adversity. The first season was objectively hot garbage but it still got a second season. The creator of the series whose passion project the whole thing was passed away in a freak accident after the second season but they just kept going without him and somehow a significant portion of the fanbase went along for it. The budget got slashed in Season 5 because of gross mismanagement but no worries! The fans stuck with it and they got it back for Season 6. Then a few seasons later the entire company that's been producing it went completely tits up and we all assumed THAT would be the end but nope!!! They got bought by Viz. RWBY has now outlived both the man who dreamt it up and the company that produced it. In an era where numerous streaming shows get axed after one or two seasons despite being critical successes with large fanbases it is completely baffling that a show that is so consistently troubled and infamously has an extremely mixed reception cannot be fucking ended despite all indications to the contrary. It truly is femslash Supernatural

It's been a long time, hasn't it.

If you're seeing this post at one point, you liked and followed Achievement Hunter and Rooster Teeth's content. You may have been a big fan. They were a large part of people's formative lives on the internet. There were certainly a lot of ups and downs too. It seems that book is coming to a close now though.

One of the best parts about Rooster Teeth was always the community and how they inspired a wave of young people to make cool things. Art, writing, animation, photoshop skills and more, I feel like we learn a lot about how to create, and get our feet wet often through fandom. I know that's how I did anyway. Consider reblogging this post if you wish to share a story about your journey and RT. I will try and share them here as well. As for myself? I can still be found most places on the internet at rosediode. I'll keep it short and simple; I would not be the artist I am today without the support of the Rooster Teeth community nurturing me as a teen to learn, create, and experiment so I can do what I do today. In all things, if these are the last words here, let them be a new beginning.

“Rooster Teeth had a lot of issues as evidenced by the allegations past employees have come forward with” and “Warner Bros is fucking evil for axing an entire company and letting some of its employees find out via tweet” are statements that can and should coexist.

Like. It’s not some gotcha that RT is shutting down. It’s not some vindictive justice that this Big Bad Company is gone now. Projects are now canceled. People will be fired from their jobs. And because it’s Warner Bros. it’s only a matter of time before all those animation projects (RvB, RWBY, Camp Camp, every single episode of anything they made) is scrubbed off of the internet.

It’s gonna be the same thing that happened with HBO Max. It’s gonna be the same thing with the Coyote vs. Acme movie and Batgirl.

RT going down is not the thing you should be lording over people. RT going down should not be some ammo for your “RWBY is mid” takes. RT going down is not some “I always knew it was cringe” meme. Real people are gonna be effected by this. People will lose this jobs and will lose all the passion projects they worked on.

This is horrifying for the people involved in these projects and the state of animation itself. Warner Bros. only owned Rooster Teeth for 2 years. They bought them in 2022. Not even 2 full years. They didn’t even get a chance and they axed THE ENTIRE COMPANY. NOT JUST ONE SHOW. THE ENTIRE FUCKING COMPANY AND ALL ITS IPS. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. THIS IS NOT THR TIME FOR A FAN WAR.

Fyi, a bunch of Redditors are working to archive RT and AH content. Find more info and a link to the discord here, and here’s the site where they’re uploading everything.

Another Redditor has a torrent for every AH video across all YouTube channels, linked here, though no one can confirm how good the video quality is.

Personally, I’m also gonna be nabbing a good chunk of content to store locally. All the Minecraft Let’s Plays, Hardcore Minigolf, TTT if I can get adequate storage, various videos here and there that made me laugh over the years.

If any of you have First accounts, I would suggest downloading any First-exclusive content you want to retain access to. It’s unclear if First content will be nuked once the company shuts down, and the archivers are currently not uploading it anywhere due to it technically being piracy.
