If one more person comes into my inbox to say "but they are adapting the Louis and Claudia dynamic from Merrick" I'm gonna lose my fucking mind. Mfs the racist writing from the episode didn't exist in the books because Louis and Claudia are white in the book. Louis getting told by Claudia's ghost that she hates him is not the fucking problem. Get it into your thick heads that two white men wrote the most virulent old school anti-black dialogue for a black woman directed at a black man when the book they're adapting from didn't have anything of that sort in those pages.

It's wild to watch the phrase "tumblr sexyman" morph into "man that tumblr thinks is sexy," because when I first saw the phrase come into use, I always saw it used in reference to the phenomenon of "when presented with a wide array of fictional characters, tumblr will always pick the skinny white man to obsess over, and if the fan-favorite character has no canonical human appearance, the fandom will inevitably create a popular fanon of the character as as a skinny white man."

When I hear "tumblr sexyman," I think of Cecil Night Vale being constantly depicted as a skinny white man instead of literally anything else. I think of the background character white men who get elevated over protagonists that are women, people of color, or otherwise not the white man power fantasy.

"Tumblr sexyman" is, like. An insult. I DON'T want any of my blorbos to win a "tumblr sexyman" poll. "Tumblr sexyman" is the exact opposite of what I want my own OCs to be. If any of my characters ever get called "tumblr sexyman," I will have to immediately re-evaluate myself and the art I'm making.

Mildly kicking the hornet's nest here, but I do find it inchresting how ALL of IWTV, all you ever heard was how Louis was such a liar about everything he ever said. No amount of the writing showing that while yes, he absolutely has a history of not telling the truth to protect himself, there were other people (mainly Claudia's own diaries) that attested to Lestat being not shit towards the family; that there was still an undercurrent of truth to how race played a pivotal role in Lestat's control of the relationship; none of this ever seemed to land with these viewers.

It was "unreliable narrator" this, "emotional terrorist" that (yes, that is a real thing that went around). The idea that a Black man could not be a perfect victim (nor person) and still be a victim was just, NOT a thing, ever. So much for lovers of "morally grey". There was not a singular ounce of grace, particularly from white female viewers. I was serious when I said they reminded me of the Mistress from 12 Years a Slave 😭

And yet you're telling me that people just bought what Lestat was talking about this season, hook, line, and sinker? There was just this assumption of truth, of innocence, of "well SEE he's just suffering and that made him do bad things!" As if everyone in the story wasn't suffering in some capacity? As if everyone didn't have something to stand guilty for in this show, yet did not have their sins excused?

I mean I didn't see one singular "emotional terrorist" accusation. I didn't see one "well he's unreliable and self piteous so this probably didn't happen!" The way they said about Louis getting violently beat and dropped from the sky by this man. Instead we got Louis' two siblings, who canonically stated their disdain for this man, saying how much they like Lestat. Crazy work. Major of example of writers not disregarding their Black fans, but actively disrespecting them 😭

Tbh I'm genuinely debating whether I should watch tvl ep 7 at all cuz I saw all the important reveals on here already (didn't really care about spoilers for this season) and I just feel like I'm good lmao I don't need to see it that badly. But then again that's such a quitter mentality I should be better than that

U know I am critical of amatonormativity and think many people need to challenge their perception of romantic and sexual relationships in comparison to other types of relationships but y'all have to know that you're kind of wasting your time complaining about the fact that fandoms ship characters together even if they have 0 romantic chemistry or don't even know each other like. It's fandom let's be realistic here. You can't extract a tree from the very seed it grew from just enjoy your aro/ace headcanons and don't engage with content u don't like. And focus your energy on materially challenging amatonormative expectations in real life I feel like that'll be more gratifying overall

I think that after two seasons of Louis, and presumably two seasons of Lestat, we should close the series with two seasons of undead Claudia searching for Madeline. We could finally get her narrative, her perspective. Plus the show runners obviously love Delainey Hayles, and she’s a powerhouse actress.

ive been in a bit of a fujo mood lately which always has me a little bit guilty because im like i neeeed to continue my championing of women and femslash. but also it's not fair that i can't simply peacefully enjoy a bit of my free time to fujo out every now and again because i feel obligated to try and compensate for people who will only think about a female character's internal landscape with a gun to their head and maybe not even then. can everyone just start liking women please so it becomes a nonissue

the amazing digital circus is a show about empathy and what it does to you if you go too long without a support system so the show starts with sympathizing with Pomni (the most empathetic person, easy), ep2 is empathizing with an NPC in a game (no flaws), ep3 is empathizing with a man who has dementia, ep4 is empathizing with someone who annoys you when they're unmasking, ep5 is asking you to empathize with a rich white woman and so on....

so it all works up to the empathy boss - a bush era edgelord millenial trans girl who thinks she's Max from Sam & Max and is inherently unworthy of love
