People who perform manual labor should be not only given high and liveable wages, but unlimited access to healthcare and physical therapy to help manage the myriad conditions that come from doing back-breaking work.
Like this is not an absurd concept. It bothers me that people think that it is.
to lovely humans who were excluded from invitations, left behind when they tied their shoes, forced to walk in the grass when the sidewalk was full, spoken over when you tried to contribute, whispered about or laughed at, given the side eye when you tried to fit in... you are so worthy of love and Iâm sorry people have convinced you otherwise. I promise that your people are out there - people who will see the side of you others ignore, people who share weird inside jokes with you, give you affectionate nicknames and go to museums or roadtrips with you and fulfil whatever idea of friendship youâve always fantasized about. even if you feel like an empty shell of your former self because youâve hidden yourself away due to shame, this exterior will melt when you accept yourself or let people in and youâll realize there was nothing wrong with you all along. you have interesting things to say, you deserve new chances and beginnings, your heart is probably made of gold because you know what itâs like to be left out in the cold, and you have so much to give. you are so worthy and someoneâs idea of a friend too, and I hope you receive lots of hugs in the future from yourself and others because youâre so lovable.
I see a lot of people who tell young peopleâespecially young people who are heading into collegeâthat they should âdo what they love.â And theyâre right. You should do what you love.
But thereâs a world of difference between doing what you love for you, and doing what you love for a paycheck.Â
I went to undergrad for graphic design and 3-D designâart and more art, I usually sayâand I loved it. You know what I didnât love? Trying to collect my fees from clients. Trying to meet unrealistic, over-simplified or over-specific briefs from people who didnât know what they were talking about. Coming home, having worked creatively all day, with no creative juice left for the things I wanted to do.
You know what I would tell you instead? Do something that you can be interested in, with people you like.
You donât have to love it. Loving your work can be a lot, and it often means you have to live in your job 24/7. Some people can do that. Not everyone can, or should. But if you can find work thatâs interesting enough that it doesnât feel tedious, and people you can enjoy spending your 9-5 with, and you can make money, thatâs great! It means you can do the things you love for you.
Iâm in law school now. Itâs interesting work, and difficult, and I like doing it. I like how complicated it gets, and I like the stories it tells. But I donât come home and read law journals for fun. I come home, and I sculpt, and I draw, and I paint, and I read. I do these things for me.
And I love it.Â
Gods I wish Iâd had this ten years ago when everyone was pushing for me to do art for a living. Probably wouldnât have burned out as hard as I did
Also if itâs ok to add? Ita ok to not want to be at the top of the pyramid. Itâs ok if the things you love arenât what you want to do in a job and itâs also ok not to want to be the head cheese. Itâs ok if you like doing your day to day and go home and enjoy your time at home more than your job. Most people donât have the luck or luxury to enjoy their job 24/7. Itâs ok to do the daily trudge and be excited about the time tour away from the job. Many people tho k you have to make your job your life and if you arenât drilled in your job you just havenât found the right one and then judge you if you dont want to be the head CEO someday or the head manager or the business owner or inventor or top designer or whatever. I think itâs super important to understand that work and hobby can be separate and if you dont want to be the big cheese you shouldnât feel bad about it.
And itâs not a waste of your âpotentialâ if you prefer to do your hobbies as only hobbies. Itâs ok to have the mundane boring job if thatâs what youâre comfortable with. Donât let anyone bully you into doing stuff for their sake.
Finding love as a transgender person
Marianne Oakes has shared an amazing collection of transgender love stories over at GenderGP.Â
Here are a few of them.Â
Marianne wrote:
The myth that trans people struggle to find love is damaging to our future generations, if trans youth or worse still, their parents believe this, then the impact can be loss of hope. My experience is pretty much like all the lovely comments here, letâs stop the myth, xx
More here!
These stories help so much. Not just because of the trans people find love just like everyone else, which is an important message on its own, but because there are some stories of other people who didnât know since they were kids and this is so fucking reassuring!!!
Itâs not that they didnât know how to, they didnât want to cause this sounds amazing!
This movie was fantastic, the story was incredible, & the cinematography was beautiful.
its on hulu!!
It is an amazing movie

Armenian genocide: survivors recall events 100 years on
To this day, the quote I read in a survivors biography in 7th grade still haunts me. âWho does now remember the Armenians?âÂ
You know who said that? Hitler. Adolf Hitler, as a way to justify the Holocaust. Because the world turned a blind eye to the Armenian genocide, he thought the world would turn its back to the Holocaust.
The worst part is, he was right. America, Europe, the governments knew what was going on. And they ignored it. Now, more than ever, remember the Armenians. Remember the Cambodians, Rwandans, Jews. Never again means now.
Remember the Armenians because itâs happening again and it can literally be stopped but not if people keep turning a blind eye, just as they did a century ago
Firefighter demonstrates how to put out a kitchen fire
Reblog to actually save a life
To explain. The latter works because youâre cutting off the supply of oxygen to the fire and suffocating it
as opposed to slapping oxygen inside the pan with the downward motion
Reblogging, because this is so important. When I was learning how to cook for myself in my tweens, I had at least a five years of fire safety seminars from school drilling this into my head, and I STILL had that instinctive put-the-fire-out-with-water reflex. Didnât even think. I saw our oily burner catch fire after frying eggs, whipped around towards the sink for water, and my brain immediately screamed NO!!! NO WATER! I mean that fire safety stuff straight up bitchslapped me out of REFLEXIVELY setting my house on fire. I found a pot lid and inched it over the burner before turning off the heat. Even if you think you know this stuff, panic is powerful shit. Make knowledge more powerful.

One of the most important things you can teach your kids is when and how to say no to authority figures.

Amazing. Truly amazing.

if you grow mushrooms over a toxic waste site, chemical spill, or other polluted growing medium, they will suck up the toxins into their fruiting bodies with such effectiveness that they are being studied for their ability to clean up tainted industrial sites. itâs called mycoremediation.
if you do this with edible mushrooms, they are no longer technically edible, but on the other hand they make a great way to poison your enemies. this is called murder and itâs usually frowned upon, but they wonât see it coming and you get bragging rights afterwards about your ability to kill people with a pizza topping.
Sorry this was not precisely most peopleâs idea of ânice.â Let me add that you are a glow of comforting absurdity in an ever-more-fucked-up world.
Warsaw makes history tonight as millions of women revolt against the governmentâs control of female bodies.
I know everyone is obsessively refreshing their feeds to find out whatâs happening in Nevada, Pennsylvania and Georgia right now, but take a look at whatâs happening in Poland.
Poland is 100% f'ing DOING it and I love those protestors SO. DAMN. MUCH.
Itâs called the foot-in-the-door method. First, you propose something that is slightly outside of allowable norms: denying gay people wedding cakes on grounds of âreligious freedomâ. Then, you slowly ramp up how extreme your demands are, coercing the other side to giving a tiny bit of ground each time, until youâve shifted the entire fucking playing field. Conservatives are also very fond of the door-to-face method, which is demanding something completely outlandish that you know will be refused, and then asking for something less ridiculous by way of compromise, again resulting in a gradual shift in norms until views that were once considered moderate or reasonable become unthinkably liberal by destroying peopleâs sense of standards. The combination of these methods is called the âfoot-in-the-faceâ method, which sums up where this whole thing is headed quite nicely.
