“well my boss is on a tight schedule so it’s either get him what he wants in a timely manner or deal with him biting my head off about it which i have yet to find out if that’ll be figuratively or literally.” why selim’s boss decided to outsource at the very last minute was a mystery even to selim despite him being the guy’s “right hand man”. but, the only reason why selim got as far as he has, was because he didn’t ask too many questions and he could only hope that the other would follow suit, for now. “for now we’ll just settle for a meeting, can’t really go around talking about our super secret club stuff in public now can we?”

hex sighs, turning away from him. not desperate, then. just entitled. “that sounds like a you problem. me, i’m on break. i don’t work when i’m relaxing.” they gesture around at the club and its flashing lights, packed dance floor, and the frankly amazing bartender who’s been attending to them. “if you want a meeting, you’ll have to hunt me down again next week. didn’t seem to have a problem doing that today, hmm?” it is a tiny bit intriguing; hex is a shadow, and even more difficult to find when they’re off the clock. all the same, that’s a concern for next week.

the bartender appears at a signal from hex, and they look selim up and down. at least he’s easy on the eyes, even if he's rude. “while you’re here, you might as well try to have a good time. come on, the first one’s on me. a refill, please, and something for my friend here...?” though the order is directed at the bartender, the question is for selim, an invitation to introduce himself.

the brunette feigned remorse. “oh no, i’ve upset you, how will i ever sleep at night?” jasmine assumed that her tricks would come back to bite her in the ass sooner or later but, she didn’t expect it to happen quite soon. unfortunately, she wasn’t one to apologize (often) so truly the only thing she could do for him was, be honest, finally. “well, if it makes you feel any better, I lie to pretty much everybody.” she said. she had hoped once the hacker did the job she paid him for, he would move on and not ask any more questions but, the confrontation that was quickly becoming an annoyance served as a lesson for jasmine to never work with the righteous again. the woman frowned at his demand. “for what? you got your cut, as far as i’m concerned we have absolutely nothing more to talk about. save your feelings for your therapist. out here, that shit can get you killed.”

he knows she’s just being glib; he responds anyway. “it doesn’t make me feel better, actually. when you hire my services, you agree to my terms. when you break my terms, i don’t deliver. don’t bother transferring the rest of the payment to me.” the thumb drive, tucked away in an inner pocket resting close to his heart, suddenly feels way heavier than it is, now that he knows what he did to get the information.

sometimes cassian really hates this profession. sure, he’s righteous to a fault, but there are things he doesn’t mess with. to throw away one’s dignity and morals for the sake of money... he won’t get tangled up in that. he stands up, still glaring at jasmine. “you’re right about one thing. we have nothing more to talk about. if you ever contact me again, i’ll hand your name and the thumb drive to the police. consider this my insurance.”

muse: cassian hazra, a hacker for hire

open to: f/m/nb

plot: your muse hired cassian, but lied to him about the system he was hacking. after completing the job, he confronts them.

"you lied to me.” he’s holding himself back, trying not to cause a scene, but god is he angry, and it’s taking everything he can not to throw something at the client’s face. he prefers to meet in public spaces to protect himself, but right now he wishes there wasn’t the cover of the public eye to protect them.

and what’s worse, he had wholeheartedly believed them. cassian’s always listened to his morals, as flimsy as moral codes can be in his line of work, always standing up for people who need his help against big bad corporations, but this is inexcusable. to think that he had truly believed he was doing some good by taking on this job... but it was too late to undo it. "explain yourself." he deserves to know that much.

plot: your muse tracked hex to a club, and is trying to hire them for a job.

they can’t help their smile, it’s always so delicious when their clients are desperate. makes them more willing to pay hex’s starting price, which for someone as accomplished as they are, is fairly steep to begin with.

but they have a reputation to uphold, and so they look away, feigning apathy. “so what is it you need?” their eyes flick up to their prospective client’s face, assessing them. “you must want it badly if you managed to find me here. get you a drink, calm your nerves?”
