I Thought I was a Mutant. And Now I’m An “Inhuman,” —Whatever That Is.
Trying to make a come back
I apologize for the deadness of this blog. In December, I lost my closest friend after a long fight with illnesses and addiction. Marvel fandom was something we had shared, co-writing fics, bouncing fandom theories around, and being generally dorky together. Her loss made it hard to function in fandom and I withdrew for awhile. I am trying to work my way back in and hopefully I can start maintaining my fandom blogs again.
A Different Kind of War Bond
Toro didn’t need a soul-bond to know when Bucky was having nightmares. It helped, there was no denying that, but just the way the other boy shook against him was warning enough. In those moments, Toro wondered if Bucky was back outside, living in the shadows and the cold, doing whatever was needed of him; he made a point to embrace him with as much warmth as possible, chasing away the bad memories and dreams with gentle waves of calm and happiness down the bond. Most times, it worked, and Bucky would settle with no more than a sigh and a wriggle. Other times, he would wake.
“I’m okay,” he’d insist, trying obviously not to give into the desire to press himself bodily against Toro, still shaking faintly. “Sorry for waking you. Go back to sleep.”
Toro just shook his head. “This is what our bond is for, y’know?” he said, reaching out and tracing the burn-like letters along Bucky’s left shoulder. “So that I know when you need me, and vice versa.”
Cringing into the pillow, Bucky lightly took hold of his hand, rubbing Toro’s knuckles gently. “Still,” he mumbled, “I shouldn’t be letting all this bother me. And you, I guess. It’s – it’s not fair.”
“I don’t think war was ever meant to be fair, Buck. Everyone’s suffering some way or another.” Toro shifted, averting his gaze momentarily. “The first time I… burned someone to death, it…” He swallowed, steeling himself, but before he could continue a sense of reassurance brushed over him. Sighing, he closed his eyes and let himself sink into the blankets. “Thanks.”
Bucky huffed a laugh. “I should’ve said that by now, shouldn’t I?”
Toro opened his eyes in time to see Bucky leaning in, closing them again when their lips met. The kiss was warm, unhurried, and long lasting, accompanied by a sweet exchange of love down the bond. When sleep began to ruin the moment, he pulled away, smiling as he nestled closer to Bucky. “That’s a pretty good way of saying,” he murmured, hearing Bucky’s quiet laughter alongside a flicker of happiness down their bond before sliding back into war-less oblivion.

Couldn’t go to bed without writing some (long overdue) Winterspark ;-)
Sometimes I remember that I have a cache of character sheets to help me practice facial expressions… And today I felt sorta inspired to draw Toro? So here’s some warmups.
Logan Lerman as Thomas ‘Toro’ Raymond & Connor Jessup as James ‘Bucky’ Barnes
My first Christmas drawing this year! and a little present for katiecrenshaw :)

Toro has no luck.
Even when he is dead!
I know I've been neglecting this page. I will try not too going forward, but with the pregnancy and everything else going on, I just haven't had a lot of spare energy for side blogs :(
However, here is something I have meant to post for months now. For my birthday, my husband and my father helped my afford a commission from the amazing Ramona Fradon. I was torn between asking for Toro or Aqualad, but in the end, Toro won out.
Isn't this amazing!! :)
Toro’s thoughts about Steve leaving him alone, probably
Loling
I love Toro Raymond with ever fiber of my being and watching him struggle hurts so much but I can’t stop imaging these shitty situations and AUs where he has troubles controlling his powers and meets Bucky but is terrified to be around him because, “Everything I touch burns!” And he hates himself and his powers because it brings nothing but destruction.
And every time Bucky will hold his hand and just tell him that warmth isn’t destruction, it’s home.
Baby Bucky and Toro because has been a while since I drew these two.
I want to snuggle OVER HERE, Bucky! 9X12 watercolor sketch on sketchbook paper
In a post, I mentioned that my little ratlet Toro, has taken dragging my little ratlet, Bucky, around the cage by Bucky’s scruff. Bucky will be minding his own business and Toro will come up, push at him, and when Bucky refuses to move, nip Bucky’s scruff and haul him to some other part of the cage and then lay on him until they fall asleep.
I re-mention it here to explain this picture.
Toro the Flaming Kid!
Headcanon: Bucky snored like buzzsaw. Even so, Toro never minded sleeping close to keep Bucky warm on the European front. Toro though also snores pretty badly and Namor often loudly and pointedly expressed his astonishment that the two of them did not alert all of Berlin to the Invaders.
And a Toro version in celebration of the fact that he might get to do something in Wednesday’s issue.

For the ship Bucky/ Toro of course :)
Aw, yay! Didn’t think I’d get asked this one :D (Sticking to my pyrography ‘verse, ‘cause it’s my most solid example of Winterspark.)
Who cooks: Toro, because he’s home nearly all of the time - unless Bucky’s bought takeaway.
Who does the laundry and other chores: Again, mainly Toro, but if Bucky has a day off he does his fair share to give him a break.
How many children do they have: None; they’re pretty much still kids themselves.
Who’s more dominant: Bucky, though he doesn’t flaunt/abuse the fact. He knows what Toro likes and enjoys giving (Toro’ll reciprocate anyway).
Favorite nonsexual activity: Lazing in bed and listening to music (i.e. Frank Sinatra, courtesy of Jim. Bucky won’t admit that he likes the music, always claiming that he’s just indulging Toro).
Their favorite place to be together: Their attic above Jim and Steve’s shop. It’s theirs, and they have all the privacy they want.
Any traditions: Birthdays are always celebrated in the store, whether it’s Jim’s, Steve’s, Peggy’s, or one of theirs (and Namor’s, when they can convince him that yes it does need celebrating, and yes it has to be in the store). If it’s Bucky’s or Toro’s, they retreat upstairs early and celebrate in private.
Their “song”: They never intended to fall in love with Robbie Williams’ version of ‘Mack the Knife’, but after buying the CD for Toro and spectacularly failing to swing dance to it, neither can resist singing or dancing (solo) along to it.
What they do for each other on holidays: In summer, Bucky can be persuaded to pose for Toro’s pyrographs, and in winter, Toro makes sure the bed is always as warm as possible because Bucky hates the cold.
Where did they go for their honeymoon: They’re not married, but Toro knows how desperate Bucky is to go to the Grand Canyon.
Where did they first meet: Jim and Steve’s art shop. Toro had just taken up residence in the attic, and Jim suggested Bucky share the space after he left school. After a week of Bucky coming to the shop to get to know Jim and Toro, it was clear they were going to be great friends.
Any pets: No. Toro once tried to adopt a stray cat, but it was having none of that.
What do they fight over: Bucky overworking himself. Money may be tight when Toro doesn’t have a commission, but that doesn’t mean Bucky has to work so hard he can barely stand when he comes back.
Do they go on vacations, if so where: To the beach mainly. They’ve never thought about travelling far and wide - day trips are all they can realistically manage.
Thanks!
