Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Son of Stephen and Ashley Monroe. He grew up lower middle class, but knew nothing but love and support from his family. 

(CAR ACCIDENT/PARENTAL DEATH TW) When Gabe was six, his parents were involved in a fatal car accident while returning from an anniversary trip. Since then, Gabe’s paternal grandmother has been his primary guardian. He loves her dearly and still talks to her every day.

Started playing basketball in elementary school with some of the kids in his neighborhood. Also played soccer and baseball, but basketball was where his true talent was.

His journey to Ogden started off with a choice: an academic scholarship to the prestigious institution he currently attends, or one to a Big 12 school based on his athletic abilities. Ogden won out in the end, with Gabe’s academic interests taking precedence over his basketball skills. It would be a lie to say that basketball was completely put on the back burner though, as he still plays as a forward on the men’s team here. 

Has been working since he was legally able to do so for extra money, usually in food service. Had been a waiter part-time at the place he currently bartends at, once he turned 21 he was promoted to bartender. Works alternating weekend nights (either works Friday with Saturday off, or vice versa), as well as some nights during the week.

Jack of all trades, master of none - Gabe is good at both academia and sports, but far from being the best in either field. He doesn’t have dreams of being a NBA draft pick, though he certainly would not turn it down. Once again, academia outweighs athletics - his post-graduation plans are to pursue a master’s degree in clinical psychology and eventually practice, focusing on mental health in young men of color.

Relationship to Greer? He was her fave bartender and would often listen to her when she came into his bar, providing advice or just someone to listen to her. But at school, it was like he didn’t exist to her.

“You two are a regular dynamic duo tonight, huh?” Monty turned, as if to double-check that he was being told the truth, and yep, sure enough, there was Leaky sitting high above the crowd in the lifeguard chair. He stretched an arm over his head to wave across the length of the pool before his grin was directed back to Gabe. “A little of this, a little of that,” he answered vaguely. “But I’m not gonna stop you from spoiling me. Lead the way, bro.” He was fully ready to hand over his scavenged Solo cup and let Gabe work his magic, expecting no less than a drink that’d not only get him blasted faster, but taste pretty fucking great, too. It was always the good taste part that Monty could never figure out in drink mixing himself. He was nodding as he fell into step beside Gabe. “Very good. I’m thinking about dropping out and retiring young, maybe find myself a nice little place in Costa Rica.” A teasing smile pulled at his lips as he glanced over. “I think the whole black light and body paint sensual theme has got people in the mood to experiment, y’know?”

“I guess we are. Kinda like you and Ollie,” Gabe replied, knowing that he and Leaky didn’t hold a candle to the legacy of Monty and Ollie. Leading Monty to the bar area, Gabe mixed himself a drink of cranberry juice and vodka, then turning to Monty. “What kind of vibes you feeling tonight? Sweet, tart, strong? In terms of the drinks,” he clarified, not wanting Monty to go off on a tangent about something unrelated - though Gabe found it amusing more than anything. “Costa Rica, huh? Ambitious, I heard it’s lovely there. Maybe one day I’ll come visit you.” All jokes, seeing as Gabe didn’t even have a passport but perhaps he would change that in the near future. Canada was right across the border, after all. “I think you’re right about that...” his voice trailed off, turning to Monty and lowering his voice. “Do you have anything... not too strong? Like edibles?”

Jacqui was slightly puzzled. When they had read the text that had chimed on their phone, they felt alarming sober for how much had put into their system. Ogden was a small school. Everyone knew everyone. But what Jacqui was trying to figure out was if whoever this was wanted her to do a shot off of Gabe in front of Jesse…because of Jesse, or because of whatever relationship may be between the two boys. They had been scanning the party since the text had come in, trying to catch some glimpse of…familiarity or interaction or something, just to have a clearer idea of what was going on. But Jacqui hadn’t had any luck yet when none other than Gabe appeared at the drinks table next to her. “You should give yourself more credit,” they said with a small smile, jerking back into motion and pulling the bottle they had frozen with their hand on towards them to make themselves another drink. “At least when it comes to how memorable you are,” Jacqui said, giving Gabe a playful smile. May as well make things as not awkward as possible if she was going to try to do a body shot off of him.

Chuckling at Jacqui’s compliment, Gabe shook his head. “Speak for yourself, I would say you’re far from forgettable. You look really pretty, I like your tattoos. Any particular meaning behind any of them?” Gabe asked, hoping it didn’t come off as too awkward as he took a sip of his drink. It wasn’t a lie, they were very attractive. “So... are you planning on going in the water or not? It seems that the party is pretty split down the middle on whether they’re going in or not. I’m still making up my mind myself.” Maybe easygoing conversation would help the freshman to feel more comfortable with what he was going to ask them to do. “Maybe your take could sway me, unless you’re also undecided. Are you much of a swimmer?” Gabe knew how to swim, but nothing too impressive - basketball was his sport, after all.

Remember two weeks ago when Avery was half-dead and declared she was never doing drugs again? Well, that didn’t last. She popped a tab of ecstasy an hour ago and boy, was it doing its job. Sometimes a little break was nice. She was feeling all sorts of social. Sat on a giant inflatable unicorn that someone had dragged out of the pool, Avery was among a small group of attendees discussing whether or not cereal was soup. That and many other things both stupid and entertaining. Spotting a familiar figure not far from where she was huddled, she tried to get Gabe Monroe’s attention. “Grandpa!” She beckoned him over. “You left your highchair,” Avery noted with glee once he was closer. “Good for you. Come hang with us young and sprightly people.” She chuckled, handing Gabe a cup of Gatorade. It was important to stay hydrated after all. What with all of the fun activities people could get themselves into at the natatorium. “Pop a squat, Gramps. Tell me why you left your post. Thought your ass was glued to that thing.”

Gabe was walking through the party, on his way back from grabbing a drink when he heard an unmistakable quip directed at him. “Hello, fan club president,” he greeted as he towered over Avery, taking a sip of his drink as he took her in. She seemed carefree and easygoing, perhaps as a result of... whatever she had in her system.. “I have a co-worker, thank you very much,” he responded, giving Leaky a thumbs up. “I’m on break, making sure you’re not misbehaving. Although I have been resting my vocal chords in case you need another Disney concert at the end of the night.” Deciding to sit for a bit, the man plopped down next to Avery’s inflatable unicorn. “I think these are supposed to be in the water, not outside of it. Need me to drag you in?” he offered, nudging the float a bit just to see how sturdy it was.

part of him was tempted to take the yellow after gabe mentioned that avery wanted it, just to kid with her. though he had the suspecting feeling that she didn’t like him very much…either way he opted for the blue one anyway. “as long as you don’t give me orange i’m good.” he chuckled before pulling the string apart and placing it around his neck. leaky dropped the bag of whistles next to the chair, for safe keeping at least, maybe. “hell yea i wanna alternate. you can’t have all the glory up in the lifeguard stand alone!” leaky laughs looking up at gabe and then back to the water. he brings the whistle to his lips and blows, cringing at the poor quality. “watch your language!” he yelled with a laugh. “alright what are our rules of the night gabe, gotta keep these kiddos in check.”

Hopping out of the chair, Gabe motioned for Leaky to climb up. “Your turn, captain.” At the younger guy’s question, Gabe paused to consider the rules as he made them up on the spot. “No running, no super dangerous jumps in the pool, no fighting. Emphasis on that last part,” Gabe pointed out. The last thing they needed was a repeat of Ollie’s party, so hopefully the attendees remained peaceful throughout the night. “And respecting when we blow our whistles. The beacon of authority, and the power that has been bestowed upon us by Party City.” He emphasized his words by tapping the piece of plastic before putting it in his mouth, blowing it at a group of friends playing chicken in the pool. “Too close to the edge!” Turning back to Leaky, Gabe tilted his head. “What are your plans for the night?”

“Oh my god, you’ve left your post!” He was teasing, smiling brightly as he trotted up next to Gabe. He’d been just about impossible to miss earlier in the evening, perched up on top of the lifeguard chair and corralling some of the insanity by blowing his whistle every now and then. Monty had been on the receiving end of a few of those reprimanding tweets – rightfully so, but that hadn’t stopped him from whipping around with a grin and peppy middle finger just for Gabe. It was all in good fun, after all. “There wasn’t a catastrophic accident that got you fired, was there? That’d be heartbreaking.” Monty’s brows jumped before he glanced away, reaching across the messy table covered in drink supplies and random snacks, plucking a Solo cup so he could work on mixing a fucked concoction that would either leave him sick or hungover or both.

And there he was, the one who tried to rile him up all night by almost falling on his ass a few times. “Nah, I got Leaky covering my shift. You really raise my blood pressure, you know that? I’m getting my money’s worth by blowing that whistle whenever you do something stupid,” Gabe commented, even though he couldn’t help but adore Monty and his charm. Sure, some may say he was an acquired taste, but Gabe had certainly acquired it by now. “What are you drinking? Don’t tell me it’s something gross, not when I could’ve made you something. Speaking of, I’m gonna grab something. Want to come with?” Walking along to the bar, Gabe turned to the younger man. “Making good sales tonight, bro?”

Did G want him to be embarrassed? Of course they did, why else would they have this thing going where he got a text encouraging him to let a freshman do a body shot off of him? And then he spotted them, trying to act casual as though he wasn’t hoping that they did what G wanted them to do with Gabe. He felt guilty; while G had dirt on him, Jacqui was innocent and did not deserve to be punished for that. Still, he turned and offered them a kind smile. “Jacqui, right? Gabe, from the food festival. Fancy seeing you here.”

Jesse’s hands were threaded through the straps of his backpack like a nervous habit. It was easy enough to laugh off the scene he’d made at the casino night with people he kept at a distance, but Gabe would be different. It was why he’d taken his time showing up like this, why he was considering putting it off just a little longer still. There was still so much to work through in his own mind and he knew Gabe’s zero bullshit laser eyes would see right through him. But here he was, anyway, the sound of the knob turning and Jesse found his most used mask as a casual smirk played on his lips. “Hey, man,” he said, leaning against the doorframe, “I brought my ps5. You up for some Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands?”

It was only a matter of time before Jesse and Gabe spoke, as Jesse had quite a lot to fill the older man in on. While Donovan Hart probably deserved to be dragged, doing so on stage publicly at an Ogden event was probably not the way to go about it. “Hey man,” Gabe mentioned, glancing at Jesse over his glasses and snickering at the proposal to play Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. “We can play, as long as you tell me what was up about last night. I went looking for you after your performance. Discussion first, then games,” Gabe laid out, patting the space next to him on his bed as an invitation for Jesse to sit next to him. “Do you remember anything at all?” He wouldn’t have been surprised if Jesse was on some sort of substance when he gave the performance.

Opening the pack of whistles that he had purchased from Party City, Gabe took out the red one before passing the bag to Leaky. “I think Avery wants the yellow one. Do with that info what you will,” he prompted, wanting to save the whistle in Avery’s favorite color for her but also relishing in the idea that she wouldn’t get it. You snooze, you loose. Climbing up on the lifeguard chair, Gabe blew the whistle around his neck and pointed at two students. “No running,” he scolded, not wanting any injuries to take place. “I like the view from up here, if you want we can alternate.”

“Peanut butter? In a smoothie?” Disgust was written all over Monty’s face – even before he dramatically gagged, tongue sticking out a little as he did so. “Dude… that sounds so fuckin’ rank, I’m not gonna lie. Fruit smoothies or bust, alright? You and your peanut allergies are safe with me.” He pushed away from the stairs to sit up again, about to hop to his feet, but Gabe’s unexpected piggyback offer had him pausing, his whole face lighting up. At this point, he could totally walk. He’d rested for long enough that his feet weren’t sore and he only had some tightness in his tendons that probably would’ve even benefited from a short stroll, but this sounded like way more fun. “Hell yeah, man, lets do it. Get over here.” Monty’s lack of shame was in full-force today. He stood and moved up a couple stairs, giving him enough height on Gabe so that there didn’t need to be any awkward crouching for him to launch himself at the other’s back once he was ready. He managed it fairly easily, taking a second to shift and grip Gabe’s shoulders before he felt secure. “Sorry if I’m sweaty, bro,” he apologized, feeling like it was already a given.

It’s official: this was rock bottom. Held in Gabe Monroe’s arms, being carried up the steps because she was too fucked to climb them properly. Avery was sure she’s never felt this embarrassed in her life. “If you ever tell anyone about this, I will kill you and then die.” Avery groaned, palms pressed to her eyes in shame. She didn’t dare move them away. She didn’t want to look at Gabe or whoever was around them, if there was anyone around them. She didn’t want to acknowledge this was happening at all. At his question, she glared at him from behind her hands. She would rather be dragged if she was being honest. “I’m never doing drugs again,” she declared drearily, blatantly ignoring his next query. “Are we there yet?” So she could fall into bed and cease to exist.

“How will you kill me? A quick blow and it’s over, or are you gonna make it slow and painful?” Gabe joked, figuring he might as well poke the bear while it was unable to attack. In all honesty, he did adore Avery and found her rather enjoyable to interact with. “You’re fine, I think everyone is either out or already in bed,” he mentioned as they reached the top of the staircase. “You probably shouldn’t, but then again I can’t do them because I get tested regularly. Maybe I just want you to join me in my sober misery. Okay, I need to find your key from your bag, so I’m going to put you down,” he warned, gently lowering Avery onto the floor outside her room and trying to locate what felt like a dorm key. Pulling it out, Gabe unlocked the door and turned on the light, having some concern for if Nate was inside asleep but figuring it was better than him and Avery taking a tumblr in the dark. “Home sweet home. Time for you to get some rest, I’ll get a water bottle for you. I feel like you’ll need it by your side tonight. I’ll even sing you a lullaby.” Before Avery could even protest, Gabe was already inhaling and exhaling. “Come stop your crying, it’ll be alright. Just take my hand, hold it tight. I will protect you from all around you, I will be here, don’t you cry.”

Jacqui had - perhaps against their better judgement - decided to check out the Latin food festival in town, though there was no way it was going to compare to what was available in their southern Californian home. But it was a little taste of home, at the very least. They had decided to go alone, never uncomfortable with doing things on their lonesome. Some things were easier to enjoy that way. As they reached for a bottle of hot sauce, it was snatched out of their grasp, a little shocked smile spreading across her lips. “No, no. I mean, I was, but it’s all you,” Jacqui said when the person who grabbed it realized what had happened. “Would I really be Mexican if I didn’t have to douse my food with hot sauce even at a Latin food festival?” she joked a moment later.

Pouring some hot sauce on his food quickly, Gabe handed the bottle back to the other. “Well thank you. You’d imagine they’d have more bottles available,” he remarked, listening as she spoke. “You’re Mexican? And what’s the verdict on this food then? I mean, it’s in New Hampshire so I don’t expect it to be the best compared to some places,” Gabe conceded with a chuckle. “But by New England standards, what’s your opinion?” He felt like their opinion may carry weight, it was similar to if someone asked his opinion on southern comfort food. “And what’s your favorite food from your culture? Whether they’re serving it here or not.”

“preeeetty drunk.” she laughed, holding up her fingers to show. “oh gosh, i don’t want you wasting your money gabe.” they patted his arm, “but hell, we should give it a shot.” what did they have to lose? a lot of money. but she didn’t care. 

“ah mister analyzer, you must notice everything.” alethea teased, glancing back at the tables around them. “i think it’s legit. adults can be gross too ya know.” the dude goes again to pick his nose and she fake gags at the action. “i have enough confidence for the both of us pluuuuus….i have money to blow. it’ll piss off my mom and dad, cause they’re like…scary good at poker.” the idea came to them, and they were ready, to hell if they won or not. the dress was the first jab, and the losing money would be the second. “c’mon that table has an open seat, i believe in us! beginners luck right?” they grabbed his hand to pull him to a table, smile bright on their face, glancing at him for reassurance.

Gabe was about to protest, to tell Alethea that he couldn’t take their money even if they had a lot of it to share. He just wasn’t used to spending other people’s money, but if she was excited about it he wasn’t going to deny her the opportunity. 

“I’m a psych major, I sort of spend my time observing people. Also I play a contact sport, I have to read my opponents before they act,” Gabe explained with a chuckle. “Did your parents ever teach you how to play?” he asked. Gabe wondered what he would’ve learned from his parents if he had more time with them. Sliding into one of the seats at the table, Gabe looked at Alethea as his hands fiddled with one of the betting chips. “How hard do we wanna go? How much do we want to trust our beginner’s luck?”

“You’re sounding way too gung-ho about becoming my personal trainer, dude,” Monty laughed out lightly, face scrunching up as he spoke. “I’ve already got a pretty small head, I wouldn’t want to start getting too swole now.” Even if he ever did hit up the gym with Gabe, it certainly wouldn’t be happening this afternoon – or any time today for that matter. Monty was officially checked out for all physical activities and the thought alone made him snort a little, knowing that the other was only kidding around. He perked after a moment of thought, though. “Hey, you drink protein and shit, right? For the gainz.” There was a very distinct ‘z’ to his pronunciation there, smile widening further as he shifted his slouch into more of a lounge, twisting slightly onto his side. “Annnnd, since I already know you’re such a wizard with liquor, you can probably do great smoothies… Do you see where I’m going with this?” Monty pursed his lips for a beat, squinting up at Gabe before he announced, “I would like to limp back to your dorm where I know – I just know it! – you have a Magic Bullet, and I want you to prepare a liquified feast for me. Please.” Maybe the dehydration was already getting to him.

Listening to Monty’s proposal, Gabe couldn’t help but laugh at his emphasis of the ‘z’ sound in gainz. How Gen Z of him. “I do, yes. Do you?” And as Monty kept talking, he could sense where the conversation was heading. “What I have is... a knockoff blender I got on sale at Walmart,” Gabe said pointedly, patting his friend on the back. “I’m allergic to peanuts, so you’re out of luck if you want a peanut butter smoothie,” he warned, knowing that was a very popular choice for athletes. “I can put some yogurt in it for you, though. And berries with vanilla protein powder. How does that sound?” he asked, chuckling at his suggestion. “You know, I could carry you back to my dorm. Literally carry you back if you need it.” Would it look and feel ridiculous? Yes, but if Monty needed it Gabe wouldn’t mind giving him a piggyback. Plus, it’d make for a great story at the next party. “Or want to get your step count up a bit and walk back.”

Maybe Kit just wasn’t devious enough but beyond cause embarrassment, he couldn’t see what else ‘G’ would do with the police notes. He sighed. It certainly wouldn’t be the last time he’d do that today either. The whole thing was so frustrating. It may have just been a couple of texts but it took up so much real estate in his mind. Practically zapped him of vigor. “Yeah I guess,” he agreed. Though he wasn’t happy about it. And he would bet the others weren’t either. Who liked feeling like they were waiting for the next bad thing to happen? He wasn’t a psych major but he’d put money on that being detrimental to someone’s mental health. “Sorry to bother you by the way. Didn’t mean to like, mess with your whole… study thing.”

“For all we know, it’s someone who’s just bored and thing we’re all NPCs in their game or something,” Gabe theorized, tapping his pen against his notebook. Why was G taunting them? If it was Greer and she had truly run away, wouldn’t she want to stay hidden? Maybe she’d since assumed a new identity wherever she was. “It’s all good bro, you looked like you could use someone to vent to.” Gabe didn’t dislike Kit, and sure he thought of him differently following the party incident. But he also felt pity for him and everything he was going through. “See you at boxing club this week?” It wasn’t Gabe’s place to forgive - or not forgive - on Jesse’s behalf, so the least he could do was be civil with the guy.
