Raven half expected a lecture about how supplies were running low in the medical department, but she felt like her eyes were going to pop out of their sockets, so she was pleasantly surprised when Gabriel handed her the pills anyway. “I know. I just like being useful.”

Gabriel gave her a small smile, he couldn’t argue with her there. Sometimes he felt guilty that he wasn’t out there with them risking his life for the group as they did constantly. He and Lily were needed inside the compound, he understood that, but it didn’t help his conscience every time someone came in with wounds that needing tending to. He was glad, at least, that they’d started letting him join the groups that went out, if only because they needed someone who knew what they were looking for in terms of medical supplies. “You and your brother have made yourselves more than useful since you came to us.” His tone sincere, Gabriel tilted his head at her slightly and gave her a sly smile, “Besides if you’re dead on your feet you’re not that much use to us anyway. Just... take it easy time to time, alright? Doctor’s orders.”

Nina’s eyes darted around the abandoned buildings, mentally crossing out the ones she’s been in before. The place was quiet, but she’s been in far too many situations where quiet meant something was up. “They told us they got separated from you in a shopping mall. Spencer was out of it when we found them. Carried those around with him every second of the day.” She gestured to the machetes Jefferson were now carrying, before whipping her head to the right of them. She saw a lone walker moving inside of one of the buildings. “We have company.”

“I can take care of myself,” Jefferson answered in response to the warning about Grant. He glanced over at Nina and frowned some at her statement. He hated thinking about that day. “It was supposed to be routine, but the walkers came out of nowhere and surprised us. I was trying to get him out of the way when they separated us and overwhelmed me.” He was silent for a moment before launching his machete with precision, embedding it in the walker’s face. “Learned that from Lux,” he explained idly as he walked to retrieve his blade. “Since losing them, I’d spent every waking moment searching, even after Victor and Lux pulled my from a creek.”

“What’s in the past should stay there, you’re back with your family now that’s all that matters.” Gabriel spoke out, hoping the diversion away from the subject would allow Jefferson not to dwell too much on the past. Not when the current situation demanded everyone to be in the present. Gabriel made a move towards the walker Nina had pointed out, only to stop when Jeff’s blade went flying past him, striking the walker in the face. He didn’t even bother masking his surprise or the fact that he was impressed. “It can’t be said that you can’t look after yourself then.” Gabriel glanced back at Nina with a grin, “I don’t think anyone back at camp can do that.”

“Fine, but one of these days I’ll have to use it and I’ll end up shooting someone who isn’t dead.”

Gabriel smirked and shook his head, “Point made. I’ll talk to him and see if he can ease up on you a little. Can’t have friendly fire being a thing under my watch.”

“I’m… I’m sorry, yeah. I’ll have to make sure to go find some in the next run then.”

Gabriel frowned and dropped his head, growing silent for a moment before he walked over to her and placed some pills into her hand. “Don’t overwork yourself, you’ve been out way too many times since you guys came back with your brother. You don’t have to be the first to jump up for runs, you know that right?”

“I can’t keep giving out meds every time someone comes to me with a minor migraine, you know that. We’re running low on meds in the first place, I’m sorry but I can’t help you right now. You’re just gonna have to wait it out.”

Nina walked ahead of them, as she always did, leading the way to the city. There seemed to be no sign of walkers yet, but they still had to be careful. “The twins told me a lot about you. I have high expectations.” She turned to Jefferson, studying him. He looked capable, then again when hell started on earth a lot of capable-looking collegues got themselves killed.

Jefferson raised an eyebrow at her as he followed her, his hands staying near his machetes at all times. “They have?” he asked casually, looking back towards the path they were on. “Well, I hope I can meet them all. They haven’t really told me much about anyone in the camp.”

Gabriel smirked to himself as Nina wasted no time in ‘welcoming’ the twins’ brother to the group. “You have high expectations about everybody, Nina.” He chuckled, walking along on the other side of Jefferson, hands occupied with the automatic he had chosen to equip himself with for the run. “You seem like a decent guy from what I’ve heard. So there isn’t really anyone I think you’d have a problem with. Except maybe Grant, but that guy’s got a bone to pick with everyone so I wouldn’t worry too much. And Gunnar might seem like a handful, but it’s only because he does what he needs to keep everyone safe.”

"Strong and beautiful as he may be, we know very little about him. But I do like the twins," he mused for a moment. "We’ll have to trust them on this one." Gunnar laughed and shrugged. "Yes, I’d like to know what he is capable of. Maybe take one of the archers. We’ve got plenty just lazing about."

"Well I do believe they had to have survived this long somehow. I don't doubt at all that he's the reason why." He admitted with a tilt of his head, of course he was speaking more about Spencer than Raven. Raven had always struck him as someone who would easily look after herself, Spencer however - as skilled as he was - was far too flighty for his own good. "Did you see the other guy they came in with? He looks like he knows his way around a bow too. If we had an endless supply of arrows I doubt we'd need guns on the wall anymore."

"You mean that wall of a man they call brother?" he laughed. "Yes. Take who you need. I trust your judgement. We should have enough to protect the compound."

Gabriel smirked and nodded, "The very same. Trust them to go out looking for supplies only to come back with a guy that looks like he could defend our compound single-handedly. Maybe we should let them go out on runs more often."

"Alright thanks, I'll go around and see who's up for it and we'll head out first thing tomorrow morning. Might take the twins brother if he wants to. Keen to see what he's like out there if I'm being honest."

"Perhaps you should lead a group out to scavenge what you can," Gunnar offered thoughtfully. "How many people do you think you’ll need to take?"

"That's not a bad idea. The twins didn't manage to bring too much back but given what they ran into that's understandable. One or two should suffice, I don't want to take too many people when they'd be better off looking out for the compound."

"I'm telling you, we're gonna need to go out on another supply run soon. I know there's been more walkers out lately but if we don't get more meds soon we won't be able to patch our people up for much longer."
