Having experienced a lot of it in my 20s, I think some of the worst, pettiest, most straight up this-is-just-bullying-you're-passing-off-as-praxis incidences of Queer Infighting endemic to young people can be best understood as attempts to exercise power by people with very little power.

Like you're 22, you're queer, you've just become a Marxist, the scope of World Suck is overwhelming and you have $30 in your bank account. What can you do to feel like you have any power? Well, you can try to get your frenemy cancelled for cosplaying a character from a problematic show. You can write a public callout post over someone's obviously friendly use of a slur you don't think they technically have the right to reclaim. Doing this stuff can make you feel like you have power and your actions have an impact. Unfortunately the impact in question is a negative impact on other marginalized people. But that often takes some maturity and self-reflection to notice.

Germany - Definitely math smart. Like, 0 question about it.

Italy - also math smart. A little science smart, too, but mainly math.

France - Science smart. Dude is probably doing the most insane concoctions and physics stuff in his room.

Greece - Both. He's just smart smart.

America - Math smart. This just makes sense for him. I don't know why.

Iran - Also both. This needs no explanation.

England - Science smart. He probs memorizes the whole periodic table and knows the factors that lead to liqufaction and what dry powder extinguishes but can't divide to save his life.

Thailand - math smart. Also fairly science smart as well but leans more towards math.

Canada - Science smart. Also kind of math smart but mainly science

at some point you have to realize that you actually have to read to understand the nuance of anything. we as a society are obsessed with summarization, likely as a result of the speed demanded by capital. from headlines to social media (twitter being especially egregious with the character limit), people take in fragments of knowledge and run with them, twisting their meaning into a kaleidoscope that dilutes the message into nothing. yes, brevity is good, but sometimes the message, even when communicated with utmost brevity, requires a 300 page book. sorry.

i see trans men so often feeling as if it is a moral failing that they are men, their heads metaphorically hung low as they apologize profusely for their existence. as if the world would be better off if they had just swallowed their own souls and continued on with the living death of womanhood. i want grab them by their shoulders and shake them.

there is no shame or guilt to be had in being a trans man. it is a beautiful thing to be, and frankly i believe one of the best things a person could be but i may be biased. you are in control of yourself, your perspectives, what you let in, what you seek out, it’s all you, and though it can take time and hard work, you can choose whether or not you actually believe being a man is something you should be ashamed of.

you get to pick how you look at this, you could choose to see the beauty of self creation, of remaking something you were told your whole life wasn’t yours, of the utter divinity of harmless authentic expression. you could also choose to believe all the self loathing and berating and compassionless perspectives but i don’t know why you would, what a waste of life and self.

you don’t have to take in everything everyone says and believe it wholesale, you are a man, find out what you think and stop listening to every person you come across like they hold ultimate truth. as long as you live a life of vowing to do no harm, and making amends when you accidentally do, you have nothing to worry about, listen to your own guts, they know what is best for you. become your wildest dreams of what a man is capable of being, the only creature who can stop you is your own shame.
