It Takes a Farmboy || Jasper & Kennedy || Day 07
“Good enough for me,” Jasper agreed, still grinning from being called Clark. Being likened to young Superman was something he could live with, certainly the most flattering nickname he’d had in a while. He chuckled as he thought of the names he was more likely to get. Oh well. At least one person here liked him.
“You’ll be surprised to hear I wasn’t a complete failure in geography,” he said, brows raised in mock surprise. “I could even tell you that the capital of Ireland is…” Oh fuck, which one was it again? “Is Dublin. Belfast is the other one, isn’t it?” He shrugged. “Alright, geography’s never been my strength, but that’s what Wikipedia is for.”
He dropped the brush, momentarily losing all interest in taking care of the mare when another reminder hit him that the life he had known was over. There would be no Wikipedia, no Google Maps, not even another season of Game of Thrones.
Fuck.
Jasper’s smile was far more strained all of a sudden. “Right, we can talk to the others about that supply run. In fact, I think I’ll leave that to you. I’ll just… You’re better with stuff like that.” Or maybe not, but it wasn’t like they could distrust her more than him.
Kennedy cocked a brow and gave the boy a side smile.
“Belfast, yes. That’s Northern Ireland- y’know, where all the religious fanatics take refuge. I’m from the Republic of Ireland, though. Part of the European Union,” Kennedy said proudly, giving him a nudge with her shoulder. “Wikipedia, though. Really? Does the Internet even work anymore?”
Kennedy had been able to use her phone, but the Internet on her device was another story. She wasn’t sure if that was a result of being in the middle of nowhere or because the Internet had just ceased to work since the Outbreak had gotten bad. It seemed Jasper had the same realization, his face going cold and distant at the thought of no Internet, no advances in technology, no ability to share information digitally.
Jasper admitted he trusted her in talking to the others rather than himself. This was certainly interesting to hear. Kennedy had been approached with speculation and uncertainty since she’d happened upon the ranch, but hearing that Jasper thought she was good enough to propose such an idea to the others was encouraging.
“Brilliant,” she replied. “Okay. I can do that.”
