I never posted my art that was displayed in my local 2026 Black History Month show.

I was flattered to be invited and very happy to take part. The theme was "Golden Dreams. I wanted to show the idea of community helping raise each other up.

The first is historical Iron Gall Ink with gold ink.

The second was Iron Gall and Gold ink with collage.

Couldn't decide which I like better so they bott got entered.

The third was an illustration done for the 2019 Woman of Wonder Con but so fit the theme that I included.

Man, I hate AI at least as much as the next guy, but I wish we could move past this conviction that we'll always be able to tell when something is AI, because it's basically already the case that that just isn't true. We're out here squinting at shit, pointing at totally real and normal bits of things and crying witch, and it's just really unproductive. This is just not the battlefield we're gonna beat AI on, guys.

Block their data centers. Sue their lying, thieving asses. Keep banging the drum about how bad they are for literally everyone and everything to anyone who will listen. But the cute little fox pup looks fuzzy because he has a double coat, not because he's AI.

We had to have a conversation about this last week at work. Instructor who is a 30-year-old engineer: “We should run students’ papers through an AI checker to see if/where they’re using AI and make sure they’re following the AI use policy.” (The policy for AI use is “Don’t.”)

Other instructors + me: “You can’t rely on those, they generate tons of false positives. Formal writing in general is more likely to be false-flagged and technical/engineering-related writing in particular gets incorrectly flagged as AI A LOT because there’s so much repetitive language and highly specific tech vocabulary everyone from here to Silicone Valley uses. Remember the student project the last graduating class did where they assessed a LLM system designed to answer airline pilots’ questions about emergency landings and it was wrong like 37% of the time? Remember how much it sucked*? All LLMs are like that.”

Old guy instructor who’s correctly bitter about the whole AI thing**: “Just make it an honor system like all other cheating.”

*It was supposed to be voice activated “Hey, Alexa”-style and couldn’t reliably recognize its own name a quarter of the time. In one practice scenario it told a pretend pilot to land his pretend airliner at an airport where the runway was too short for it. In another it made up fake emergency procedures that don’t actually exist (ex: “that warning tone is for [system that doesn’t exist on a 737], you should use emergency checklist number [fake checklist number that doesn’t exist].”). A European airline company initially interested in helping develop it had already backed out before the graduate student testing program even began because, again, it sucks.

**A previous discussion point in the same meeting had been “What if we officially have the students use AI to generate parts of their papers because they’ll totally just do it anyway,” which Old Bitter Guy correctly rebutted with, “We assign them those reports/papers to assess the students’ abilities and understanding of the material, not to assess how well chatgpt can do it.”

We are just over here having more and more hand written and pr just disabling wifi so they can't got on the internet.

I am lucky in that I teach 6th graders who know how to use AI, but not how to edit it so it sounds like something they could write. But yeah, it's bad.

Especially as an art tracher. I am trying to point out that the fun is in the doing not the results but this capitalist hellscape is so results driven it's an uphill battle.

Some of my designs for the cover of mini sketchbooks I sold at @staplegator 's Staple Expo this last April :)

I had been hand drawing them and they did ok, but I wanted something that could be printed out so I had a lower price point for my sketchbooks than original art allows. Because you know. The economy :(

I need a body image pep talk, Peeps. I’m going to see My Chemical Romance in early July! At an outdoor venue. I want to wear one of my sleeveless lace-up overdresses with a sleeveless ruffled blouse. (And fluffy skirts, of course.)

I’m 56 and fat. (Look at me putting my therapist’s advice to work; fat is a value- neutral word!), so my upper arms are flabby. I’m starting gentle weight workouts to build my strength, but those won’t work miracles in a month.

Please help me quiet the Body Image Demons. If you have photos of fabulous fat people wearing fabulous things, that would be extra great.

Photo tax so I can keep telling the Body Image Demons to fuck off.

This is Chubblebath, you may have seen her modelling goth clothes in various places. She's been a plus size goth fashion model for a while and has a tiktok at least, maybe a youtube? She's always talking against fatphobia and making fun videos and wearing FABULOUS clothes. I get so excited when I see her while I'm shopping.

Any kind of subculture fashion is so much harder to find when you're fat, I get it; but that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with YOU or me! I am a seventh of a ton myself, and I did that on purpose because I was thin as a young person and got very sick and almost DIED because had no fat for my body to use in times of famine (i.e. being too sick to eat). Recently I got very sick again with The Plague for the first time; but this time, I recovered much faster because I am FAT and my body had something in the pantry to live on while I was stuck in bed coughing and sleeping and unable to swallow anything but water.

Humans as a species spent a long while getting very good at carrying extra stores of fat around to survive through famine! We still have times of famine, it's called getting sick and being in bed, or getting surgery and being in bed, etc. But we're one of the few species that is actually evolved to carry fat safely on our bodies, and we're good at storing food for later--in our fat! There's a reason it's so "easy" to get fat and that's because yeah, it's easy for a bear to get fat too, or a seal! Fat is warm and good at keeping you alive and frankly, it is better for your long-term survival to be fat. Fat being on your arms is a good place to carry it, we evolved to carry it on our limbs specifically because that is the most out of the way spot on our bodies that doesn't interfere with doing stuff.

Idk if any of that helps but I am a sort of person that finds comfort in science and evolution when I am feeling the slings and arrows of this sort of thing. I don't have any photos of myself, so that's all I can offer is words.
