Axis countered against Dea’s scowl with a bright smile. He slipped back to his dialect, finding it easier to try and talk to Dea that way. «Me? Rude? Oh, never! I’m one of the sweetest people in all of Eos! I have the dimples to prove it!»
He crossed his arms and gave her a shrug. «It’s fine, Dea. I promise. My kids didn’t hear you say it. They’ve never said it before and I doubt they will say it anytime soon. They’ve heard worse things coming from Glaves and other Citadel workers.»
«Dimples mean nothing, boy. Maybe except that you simply have an adorable face--» and to emphasize that, she reaches out to pinch a dimpled cheek of his. Sweet and adorable indeed.
«Oh, gods, I’m relieved,» sighs the woman, though the regret still lingers within her small frame. Can’t be helped now, it’s just like her to worry about kids so much. «If they end up saying their first cuss words, you tell me. I’ll be Scary Ninang Dea and reprimand them.»
“Puta is puta no matter what dialect you are speaking.” He snorted. “And if I said it around either of your kids, they’d remember it for all of eternity, even if they were a day old. Because the Nivenia-Amicitias can obviously remember everything.”
She feigns a scowl, quickly reverting back to Axis’ dialect to make it easier upon herself because she still manages to stutter through Lucian common tongue. «Have you always been this rude? Unbelievable.»
And though as much as she wants to keep teasing the man, there’s a bit of guilt gnawing at the back of her mind, maternal side kicking in hard and making her frown genuinely, «Did your children actually hear me say it? By the Six, Arra, I’m truly sorry... I’ll watch my mouth better next time, I promise.»
“Don’t swear around the kids? You nearly said ‘son of a bitch’ when you dropped Miles’ bottle on the ground. While Asher and Faye were present. Pot kettle black, Dea.”
“Cállate, Arra, I did not.”
Dea huffs softly, remembering that particular scenario a little too vividly and cringing. “--At least not in your dialect....” She just hopes that the kids were far too young to have memorized the terms she’d hissed.
Aulea grinned as she walked up to the woman standing guard by her own room, head cocked to the side just a little. "It seems that I have to kiss you, my dear. For a dare. Apparently, they don't think I'll do it." She wanted to make a joke of it, say how they obviously didn't know her, but she decided not to, instead leaning forward to press their lips together softly for only a brief moment, before whispering 'I'll do more later' after.

Oh no. There’s that look on her Queen’s strikingly beautiful face again, hinting mischief and excitement that Dea knows she’s sure to be a part of. Not that she’s about to complain.
Not especially when Aulea approaches so elegantly and blesses her with a kiss that Dea has to pretend she’s not familiar with. Pretends that this is the first time she feels stricken with graceful charm, pretends that she’s not already in love with the softness that leaves her wanting for more.
(But clearly she’ll be getting more later!)
And so the guard feigns utter shock, gasps loud enough for their spectators, and carefully hides the longing smile that wants to settle itself on burgundy-smeared lips.

details of the AU under the cut so you know what the heck i have jotted down so far! subject to change, ofc--
-my main HCs both here and on @floweringeclipse‘s info is that Dea died in M.E. 746 [see timeline here]. The four main points of that info are:
-Niflheim attacks Galahd.
- Ardyn contacts Drautos (lowkey plotting something regarding this with thekingsshield atm but pay no mind to this rn).
- Gladio starts working for Noctis. He befriends Noctis after Iris’ incident.
-Iris is 5 y/o, Gladio is 13 y/o.
-Dea, being a resident of Galahd and having left her family there, traveled back to her hometown after hearing rumours of a potential Niff raid on Galahd. Knowing the Lucian Councilmen did not care enough about her homeland, Dea had to leave and see for herself if she can rally a small troop of hunters to help fight back an invasion if it WERE to happen. And it did, but she didn’t expect it to be of massive scale.
-She got caught in the war. The main HC of her death is that she was outnumbered by MT soldiers and was gunned down. The Lucian Council had no way of finding out how she died, nor could they find her body, so she was pronounced dead weeks later and they simply speculated that she must’ve fallen into the sea during her boat ride to Galahd.
-In the Dea Lives AU she received grievous injuries and several concussions while she fought MTs alongside hunters, and while she may have been knocked down, she merely passed out. The hunters she was with managed to drag her to safety and evacuate the island, bringing her to the Lucian mainland with them to rendezvous at a Hunter HQ in Leide.
-I know it’s such an overdone trope but amnesia is a thing sldkgjsf. With no form of ID or even official hunter tags, the hunters-- and Dea herself-- had no idea who she was, had no clue that she’d been living in The Crown City for the past two decades and that she had a family and served under the Lucian Royals. All the hazy memories Dea had were of her childhood in Galahd; she could also only speak Galahdi with very little Lucian common tongue at that point. Everyone just assumed she was another Galahdan hunter who fought for her homeland.
-For the next decade, she lived her life as a poor but skilled hunter, hopping from outpost to outpost with a small group who took her in as one of their own. She didn’t quite have the motivation or reason to search for her missing memories because all she had was of her home island, now torn by war.
-Maybe during the Chocobro’s roadtrip, someone other than Gladio and Iris ends up running into Dea. Maybe she even gives them a request for an errand. Years have been unkind to her-- physically, mentally-- so if she knew Noct or Ignis when they were younger, they wouldn’t fully recognize her now. But maybe the way she speaks common tongue with a strong Galahdan accent sorta reminds them of the way Iris or Gladio speak when they shift between common tongue and Galahdi words. Just a coincidence, though, right?
-Or someone becoming close to Dea, or growing fond of her during hunts bc she’s such a sweet old, momly lady, and the muse introduces her to their group of friends which include Gladio or Iris, and the two Amicitia kids practically have heart attacks then and there while their supposedly-dead mother doesn’t even recognize them (^:
