You smile as you read the text. You race down the stairs and to the front door, throwing open the front door and grinning.
âHansol!â You yell. He smiles at you and wraps his arms around you, dropping the bag thatâs in his hands. Your pulse starts to quicken, but youâve had enough practice with this so youâre able to calm you heart down before he notices.
âI missed you so much! How was your trip?â You ask.

HO MY GAWWWWDDDD
My iMacâs wallpaper now.
I am one who really loves beaches, but most of the time, we see pictures of beaches with nice sunsets, or generally happy looking.
This picture that i got off Work Hard Anywhere, really matches the logo. To me, the gloomy looking beach represents a tough time, in which one is struggling. But the logo âWORK HARD ANYWHEREâ really just motivates us to pull through it. Academics or not this is truly inspirational.Â
Work Hard Anywhere:Â http://workhardanywhere.com
Find them on Instagram too!
I really wish my Chem study was as neat as psych was last week.
I find that putting the things I need to learn on my window makes me open my window giving me a more positive study space and by using sticky notes the colours correspond with certain areas (plus they stick better to the window than brick walls).
this is rly pretty <3which i could write on my windows tooÂ
1. Wally (iPhone, iPad) I personally love this app cause itâs easy to use, beautiful to look at, keeps my receipts and isnât cluttered with useless features. You can divide them into various categories/subcategories, add in your income, see your balance as well as see your spending habits graphed into beautiful pie charts. 2. 30/30 (iPhone, iPad) This app is mostly intended for study sessions but I use it to keep track of routines, particularly for housework. I tend to procrastinate and dilly-dally when doing laundry/dishes/etc and sometimes I just need to GET IT DONE. You can allot how much time you want to spend, and save these lists/routines for future use. 3. IFTTT (iPhone, iPad) IFTTT stands for If This, Then That and you can use it for ANYTHING. Statements are called ârecipesâ and allow for a more productive use of your time by eliminating routine actions. I currently use âIf raining tomorrow, then remind me today to bring an umbrellaâ and âIf tagged in Facebook photo, then save in iOS Photosâ. Alternatively, you can use it to automatically transfer tagged screenshots/notes/etc to dropbox/google drive/etc. 4. Evernote (iPhone, iPad, Macbook) I think everyone knows what Evernote is. It has a ton of features including journals, notes, lists, whatever you want. I use it to keep my 2015 goals and lists (books to read, movies to watch, music to get, gift ideas, recipes to try and my bucket list). How does it make me a better student? I no longer waste free time thinking about what to watch, where to eat, or things to do. I get more things done that Iâve always wanted to do and can therefore appreciate when itâs time to get back to work. 5. Grades 3 (iPhone) Also self-explanatory! It helps you keep track of how each of your evaluations are affecting your final mark. Sometimes itâs hard to see how a 5% quiz improves/ruins your grade. I found myself 10X more motivated after using this app cause you can see just how much better you can do. 6. Inkflow Visual Notebook (iPad) I just recently discovered this and it is THE BEST. As a human bio major in my undergrad, I drew out flowcharts ALL THE TIME. The problem was that Iâd run out of space or need to add a new molecule in between, and my OCD would hit the fan. This app allows you to take a photo of your work, but only scans the pencil/pen part, and therefore seamlessly fits in with the rest of your document. You can then erase, select, add and move around different components of the flowchart/note/picture/etc. 7. Flashcards+ (iPhone, iPad, Macbook, Windows) This is pretty self-explanatory! What I liked about this is that I was able to test myself while walking to places in the freezing -30 degrees Celsius weather in Toronto (which I wouldnât be able to do with physical flashcards). Not to mention it saves so much time and paper, and you can easily share them with others. 8. Duolingo (iPhone, iPad) Learning a new language keeps your head sharp and resume competitive for this increasingly globalized world. Iâm currently learning German and this app makes it super easy and fun! I started last week doing 15 minutes every day and I have already had a full (simple) conversation with my German friend - itâs that good! 9. Circle of 6 (iPhone) As newly independent adults, we need to organize our SAFETY. This app allows you to choose 6 people to send an emergency text to with your details and location at the click of a button (as well as an âIâm okay but thanksâ message once the crisis is averted). 10. SAM (iPhone, iPad) If youâve ever had anxiety attacks, youâll understand how much time an attack eats up when youâre trying to be your most productive self. It has a toolbox of methods to calm you down and provides explanations for what youâre feeling. You can even rate each method so you know what works for you.
11. Dashlane (iPhone, iPad, Macbook, Windows) With all the different social media accounts, email accounts (going on my 4th one now that Iâm a Masters student at a new university!), online shopping accounts, bank accounts, etc - it starts to get hard to keep track of all your usernames/passwords AND have strong, individual passwords for all of them. This helps keep track and allows the ability to change ALL your passwords at once if something were to happen to your various accounts.
12. Google Drive (iPhone, iPad, Macbook, Android, Windows) I can spend a whole blog post talking about this one. I have 100% of my documents saved on google drive on my desktop. This means I have 100% of my documents on my phone, ipad and .. anywhere with an internet connection. You wonât have to lug around a big laptop all the time, AND you can have the peace of mind knowing you have access to important information from literally anywhere in the world. And a bonus - it doesnât take up any space (except in the cloud!). 13. Zotero (Macbook, Windows) I love doing research papers but I absolutely hate having to keep track of everything Iâve read. This app allows you to create folders to keep citations for each of your individual reports. Once youâre done, just choose your referencing method and it creates all your bibliography for you at the click of a button!
14. Self Control (Macbook, Windows) Need to study online but keep feeling tempted to go on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, Youtube, etc? Put them all on a âBlacklistâ on this Self Control app and prevent yourself from being able to access them for a certain amount of time. Even if you delete the app, you still canât get on those sites until your time is up. LIFE SAVER.
Hopefully these tips have helped you in some way. Iâd love to hear about other useful apps! The trick is to have apps that satisfy more than one function, so that you donât clutter up your devices.

Ways to Organize Your Schoolwork
i think itâs important to find an organization method that works with you and to stick with it, so i thought iâd make a post!
Using Binders
binders are a great way if you want to be extra organized
binders vary in size, color, and brand
you can use dividers to organize papers
donât buy pocket folders because it defeats the purpose of getting a binder and all of your papers probably wonât be able to fit in them
d-ring binders are best imo
PROS:
they last long
more heavy duty
great for messy people
easy to get papers in and out
have lots of space for your papers
you can use dividers to section off your work
CONS:
can be expensive
bulky and heavy
require hole punching
takes up a lot of space in your backpack
the annoying âsnapâ noise
Using Folders
most folders can hold up to 100 papers
buy durable poly folders because they last long (five star folders are the best) - paper folders rip super easily
if you get folders with prongs you can hold more paper
youtube video that shows you how to organize folders - v helpful!!
you can use binder clips/paper clips to organize your work
PROS:Â
cheap
light and easy to carry
small and compact
CONS:
only has two folders to put papers in
papers can fall out easily
can take a lot of time to put papers in prongs
Using Accordion/Expandable FoldersÂ
accordion/expandable folders are great if you like the filing system
they are usually made with poly material or thick cardboard paper
you can buy them landscape or portrait
vary in colors and designs
check out five starâs folders
studyignâs amazing video showing how she uses expandable folders!
PROS:
comes with dividers
compact and contains sturdy flap closure
protects your papers from wear and tear
easier to carry than binders are
light to carry and doesnât waste space in your backpack
CONS:
i canât think of any??
they are a bit pricey?
maybe i should be using these types of folders lol
Additional Tips
Use the âTake Twoâ Trick:Â before starting homework, take two minutes to organize any loose papers that are in your backpack. (idk about you but im always throwing papers around when im in a rush to get to my next class)
Use an academic planner to organize your extracurriculars, important exam dates, deadlines, etc.
Every semester and quarter, clean out your backpack. Throw away any papers you know you wonât need. If you have papers you want to keep but donât want to store in your backpack, you can keep them at home. I usually use accordion folders for these types of papers.
Hello!!! Singaporean peeps (or elsewhere haha idk) ask me anything in my ask box? (i think thats what you call it HAHA) <3
P.S. Submissions thingy is open too :D
The stuff more or less always in my bag! There were more things in there than i thought
Saturday Study Tips
1.) Sleep in! Â I often make the mistake of thinking I need to pop up at the crack of dawn to get things done on Saturday, when in reality I need to recharge my batteries from grinding all week. Â Be good to yourself, and youâll be more productive in the long run.
2.) Set a time to start studying and stick to it. Â If you set your alarm to sleep in until 10:30, give yourself a couple of hours to wake up, get dressed, eat, and drink coffee. Â Whenever your set study time rolls around, be ready to rock and roll!
3.) Pack all of the essentials. Â The #1 killer of a good study session is not having everything that you needâand I donât just mean academic materials! Â Hereâs a little list of what I like to pack:
â Coffee â Water bottle â Enough healthy food to last me the length of time I plan to study (this is hugely important!) â Earbuds â A sweatshirt or jacket (another important one!) â Phone charger + laptop charger â Gum or mints â Ponytail holder + bobby pins â Phone, laptop, textbooks, notebooks, pens, highlighters â Agenda
4.) Choose a study location that is best suited for you. Â Everyone is differentâfor me, I sometimes have a hard time focusing in the library because itâs too quiet/can feel isolating! Â For casual studying, I love places like Barnes & Noble or Starbucks because the buzz and bustle is energizing but also white noise I can tune out in the background. Â When I need to get serious, the library/a study room is the better option.
5.) Find a good playlist to help you get in the zone. Â I personally cannot listen to anything with lyrics, because I find myself focusing more on the words of the song and less on what Iâm studying! Â There are great playlists on Youtube that are designed to facilitate studying and focus; search for âalpha wave studying music.â Â I also enjoy listening to seasonal instrumental Pandora stations, like bluegrass in the fall and classical Christmas in the winter.
6.) Turn. Off. Your. Internet.  Sign. Out. Of. All. Apps.  This is the hardest part of studying for me and a terrible habit I am striving to kick.  The impulse to check Facebook or Instagram or Tumblr is almost a reflex for most of us, so I find that turning off my internet on my laptop and signing out of my apps on my phone helps tremendously.  Set small goals for yourself that will exercise and strengthen your self-control like a muscle.  For example, âI will complete two reading assignments and then have 5-10 minutes to check social media before starting my next assignment.â  It sounds pathetic, but compulsively checking social media is a learned behavior that you have to force yourself to unlearn in order to be truly productive.  Thereâs an app for MacBooks called âSelfControlâ that allows you to block certain websites for a set amount of time.  I strongly recommend it!
7.) Set realistic goals and take breaks. Â The clock is your friend, not your enemy! Â I work best in about 50-minute increments before I need a tiny 5-10 minute break. Â During a regular study session, I usually canât work for more than 3 hours before needing a larger break. Â Exercising is always my go-to. Â Get outside, breathe some fresh air, and let your body move. Â It also helps to set a cap on your studying; I often pick a time I want to be totally finished for the day and focus my energy toward meeting that goal.
8.) Remember that constant studying is not healthy and perfect/imperfect grades do not define you.  You are more than your perceived academic abilities.  Working hard to achieve success is important but not everything.  There is a beautiful world out there beyond your desk.  Donât be afraid to take time off to explore it :)
i hit 500 followers not too long ago and to thank you all, i made a back to school masterpost!! ENJOY (and thanks for 500!!) i go bts on monday:)

Have everyone seen this picture of the Danish cop playing games with a little Syrian refrugee on her way to Sweden?
ok? and?Â
This child has suffered in a country filled with terror, managed to escape and then walked and traveled her way from one continent to another. This is a child in the mids of terror and hatred. Her people have been kicked and spit at. She is a child who have not been allowed to be a child. She is a victim of a war she canât controll. And then she arrives at the other side of the world, and someone finally treats her like a child. Who see her and play with her and give her some comic relief in the mids of the most traumatic experince of her life, in a country where no one speaks her language and it is so much colder than what she has known. In the mids of war and terror we forget that kids are still kids, and this police officer on the other side of the world reminds us that they are indeed children. Donât come here and âand?â me!
