“I am wearing Public Desire boots, vintage skirt from Awoke Vintage, green vest and and jackets thrifted in LA. I am more into how I’m wearing vs what and uniquely creating my outfits. I love making every day feel like I’m playing dress up and today’s look was my if black girls had a Hogwarts and I was a head girl in potions class look.”

Zitkala-Sa, first Native American woman to write an opera 1898
Zitkala-Ša (which means ‘Red Bird’), also known by the name Gertrude Simmons Bonnin, was a Native American writer, musician and activist. She was born on 22nd February 1876 on the Yankton Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Her mother was a Sioux American Indian, her father a white American who left the family when Zitkala was only young.
In 1910, she composed an opera with the musician William F Hanson. It was called The Sun Dance and used traditional Sioux melodies. Native American religions were banned at the time (until 1978), yet Zitkala-Ša used the Sun Dance (an outlawed dance) as the setting for her opera.
