Hey just a heads-up for anyone who, like me, woke to the news of Bidenâs win and promptly burst into tears and is spiraling or feeling depressed instead of ecstatic, even though you wanted this result?
Youâre okay. We have been through 4 years of hell, and this year in particular has been awful. Your emotions are all over the place because thereâs part of you that has relaxed with relief that 45âČs out, and thatâs okay.
Weâre okay. Take this weekend to give yourself some aftercare. Soft clothes, warm baths, comfort food. Hydrate and get plenty of rest. Get a hug if you can. Be kind to yourself.
The workâs not done, but that doesnât mean itâs wrong to take a weekend to rest.
Thereâs a post somewhere, which I am too tired to find rn, about how long-term trauma gets buried inside like a fire burning down to embers in a room with no air. When a good thing happens, itâs like firefighters opening a door into that room: all that heat flares up suddenly, from a place you thought was safe. Youâre not crazy, and this will pass, but you have to take time to put out the fire

Maybe some of you are in a place where you need to hear these things. Trust me, it does turn out okay. đ

Conservatives have wanted to kill this for years but theyâre going for the killing blow at precisely the most damaging time â which shouldnât surprise anyone at this point. Be mad and be loud about this one, friends. Call your senators.
The mail piling up?
Those are bill payments.
Those are medication refills.
Those are time sensitive documents.
Those are paychecks.
Gutting the USPS doesnât just mean skewing the election. It means millions of people will be without the things they desperately need for survival.
Disabled people who canât access their grocery store will go without supplies
People who canât afford to pay for private shipping/people who donât live on profitable routes may lose shipping altogether
People who canât afford private shipping and need government intervention the most will not be able to send mail-in ballots
It means court orders for parents who will end up missing their custody battle and lose their children
There is so much more than, âmy package will be a week or two lateâ
Mail service is a necessity, not a luxury.

Ok. Iâm asking this seriously. Public schools arenât businesses. They donât turn a profit. They arenât running in the red. How is opening schools back up supposed to jump start the economy?
Oh I see. Itâs so parents can return to work allowing the government to skip out on another round of stimulus money.
Hmm. Donât like that much.
Thought this might help

âWhen you say âLooooongâ, I think of my cat. Around 15 years ago, someone made me lots of collages of my cat. The cat is still alive and she is the longest living cat in our family!â
âNow she is 17 years old. She does not climb to high places anymore, but she is relaxing and living her life.â
âItâs not something recent. This is the photo that we took when we made her Figureâ
WHOLESOME UPDATE

things that can help ease anxiety:
- a hot soothing drink like chamomile tea - warm yellow lighting, like a little lamp - sweet scents or candles - reading a paper book - organising things - holding a cushion or pillow - a big bowl of soup - listening to songs that are calming - light exercise or a walk in a quiet street - fresh warm laundry and a tidy room - remembering things youâre thankful for - soft and comfortable clothes
- being wrapped up in heavy blankets or sweater - having your s/o or close friend play with your hair - taking a warm shower - drinking some water - spending at least 10 minutes in the sun - hugging someone for at least 10 seconds - setting a loose schedule for the day - opening up the windows for a little bit of the day to let in fresh air
I have been on this site too long and I expected it to take a turn into violence. I am happy to see it didnât. These are wonderful things and so good and helpful.
I love you all!

tbh cables were like that and safety precautions werenât hard set in yet
Oh wow this is horrifying
Holy shit
We figured it out lmaooo
Also back when electricity was first being put into homes, and being widespread, no one knew how DANGEROUS electricity was. Youâd have electric cables, without any protection, where you can get zapped. Quite a lot of people died because no one publicly understood the dangers involved with electricity. Nowadays, because of all the regulations put in place, people rarely die from electric shock from outlets or items, and most understand how dangerous electric items are, and how, if youâre having some sort of issue, you call an electrician before *anything else*. Trust me. That image isnât showing peopleâs âstupidityâ. It was more likely than not trying to make the public aware of how *deadly* electricity can be.Â
Stupid ainât timeless, but ignorance sure is
American Girl stories were the best tbh
Dude, read the books, she and her mom freed themselves in Book 1. We donât disrespect American Girl in this house
Donât you dare disrespect Addy, or any of my girls for that matter. American Girl used to be legit. Good stories, good dolls, good movies.
Felicityâs story was set in the beginnings of the American Revolution, and addressed the conflict that she faced when her loved ones were split between patriots and loyalists. It also covered the effects of animal abuse, and forgiving those who are unforgivable.
Samanthaâs stories centered around the growth of industrial America, womenâs suffrage, child abuse, and corruption in places of power. Also, it emphasises how dramatically adoption into a caring family can turn a life around.
Kitâs story is one of my favorites. Her family is hit hard by the Great Depression, and they begin taking in boarders and raise chickens to help make ends meet. Her books include themes of poverty, police brutality, homelessness, prejudice, and the importance of unity in difficult times.
Mollyâs father, a doctor, is drafted during the Second World War. Throughout her story, friends of hers suffer the loss of their husbands, sons, and brothers overseas. Her mother leaves the traditional housewife position and works full-time to help with the war effort. They also take in an English refugee child, who learns to open up after a life of traumatic experience.
American Girl stories have always featured the very harsh realities of America through the years. But theyâre always presented honestly, yet in ways that kids can understand. They just go to show that you donât have to live in a perfect time to be a real American girl.
Dont you fucking dare disrespect the American Girls in my house. ESPECIALLY Addy!! That was my first REAL contact with the horrors of slavery, as I read about her father being whipped and sold and her mother escaping with her to freedom, but also how freedom was still a struggle.
A slave doll. Please. Read the books.
Donât forget Kirsten, the Swedish immigrant who had to deal with balancing her own culture and learning the english language and customs of her classmates, or Kaya (full name Kaya'aton'my, or She Who Arranges Rocks) , the brave but careless girl from the Nez Perce tribe, or Josefina, the Mexican girl learning to be a healer.
And then there are the later dolls, that kids younger than me would have grown up with (I was just outgrowing American Girl as these came out), like Rebecca, the Jewish girl who dreams of becoming an actress in the budding film industry, or Julie, who fights against her schoolâs gender policy surrounding sports in the 70s, or Nanea, the Hawaiian girl whose father worked at Pearl Harbor.
These books, these characters, are fantastic pictures into life for girls in America throughout the years, they pull no punches with the horrors that these girls had to face in their different time periods, and in many cases I learned more history from these series than social studies at school. And thatâs without even mentioning the âgirl of the yearâ series where characters are created in the modern world to help girls deal with issues like friend problems, moving, or bullying. We do NOT disrespect American Girl in this house.
American Girl is probably going to be the only exposure young girls are going to get to history from a female perspective. This is actually kind of important considering that in history classes we dont really get that exposure. We dont hear about what women felt and endured during these time periods cause schools are too busy teaching us about what happened from the male perspective, which is not unimportant, but we need both. Girls need both.
These books were such a crucial part of my childhood and shaped my love of history, which still ensures today. These books can be a young girlâs first lessons in diversity and cultural awareness (hopefully burying that insensitive âweâre all Americansâ tripe) and looking at history from more perspectives than just that taught in school. They also are an example of how women have ALWAYS been part of history, which some people would rather us not believe.
I think Kit and Kaya were the newest American Girls when I started âaging outâ of the books, but hearing about some of these kinda makes me want to revisit them!
I wasnât gonna say anything, but you know what?
Nah.
OP (of the tweet thread) was either a actively trying to start shit or is just a huge fucking moron. Probably both.
Iâd like to point out that the company that makes American Girl dolls actually doesnât skimp when doing their research and they donât make the dolls with the intent to be offensive in any way:
And they departed from the norm in Kayaâs doll to fit her culture! The other dolls all show their teeth, and Kaya does not because that is considered rude in the Nez Perce culture!
It is absolutely true that these books covered the stuff in history that was absent from our history books. I still distinctly remember reading about Addy being forced to eat bugs she missed on tobacco plants, and that started me out from a different perspective and made it easier for me to know to reject the sanitized version of the slave trade weâre taught in school. And these books are targeted at ages 8+, which is a pretty critical time for developing your own thinking and morals.

the fact that apple took an entire product market and changed not just the product, but the market, to fit to their desire... like, electronic products are supposed to last, they are made to last for extended periods of time, that's the point. but then apple came along, and they suddenly realized they could change the whole game, because they got ahead on the smartphone trend and every other company was looking to them to decide what to do. so apple created "generations". usually, if your product isn't broken, you don't need a new one. you don't need to reenter the market. but they found a way to convince people, "oh, but just because you don't need a new one, doesn't mean you shouldn't get a new one. look, this new one is way cooler than the old one!" they turned a smartphone into a fashion piece, something that you should only have if it's "in-season". and people fall for it, hook-line-and-sinker, obediantly waiting in lines the week of the new iphone release while they have what should be a perfectly good phone sitting in their pocket, which is promptly going to be either sold third party for pocket change compared to the original price, or thrown straight into a landfill. perfectly fine, working parts, rare and valuable things, thrown straight away. but then, then, apple realized they could go further with it. because not everyone was doing that, and in fact many people either couldn't or didn't want to get replacements for their perfectly-good products, and that is how they became the forefront of planned obsolesence. if they had their hardware components abruptly stop working, people would become upset and outraged, and would demand investigation. so they turned to software. they said, "every once in a while, your device will need to update. these updates are good, because they will bring you new and improved features!"- but that was only half-true. if your phone was new, yes, this would happen, but if it was older, the update would slightly degrade it, so much so that you wouldn't notice it. but then after only a couple of years, you would notice it- your phone slowing down, lagging randomly, maybe a few weird glitches here and there, not enough to brick your phone but enough to make its original sleekness seem distant. and you would be frustrated, and you would wonder why this was happening, and apple would reach down and say, "why, that is because your phone is getting old. you need the next generation!" so then even those resistant to change would be forced to get a new phone every couple of generations, and anyone who didn't was fully seen as an outcast or an idiot. and apple realized how well this work, and they extended it in full to tablets and computers, and other companies took note, and they began to very slowly do the same. and now, instead of electronics being the old, ugly tv your grandparents have that still works, or the vintage computer in your dad's attic that has a graphical hole in the corner but still works, or your aunt's old record player that has gather decades' worth of grime and dust but still works, electronics is your friend's beautiful, clean iphone from two and a half years ago that has the capacity to do a thousand things, but it won't turn on because the charger port is fried, and when you ask them why, they go, "oh, it's out of season."
