CALLOUT POST @ ALL WRITERS

my mom taught me the therapeutic power of cleaning. open all the windows. throw out the old. wipe down the entire house. burn some incense. roast some coffee. then rest. that way the tears from last night don’t feel as heavy.
She just wanted you to clean the house
ways your characters can show varying emotions
to show sadness (grief, sorrow):
- sharply sucking in a breath
- hiccuping from crying so hard
- uncontrollable sobbing
- slumped shoulders, head down
- weather can be used to show emotions — not just rain, but a shining sun and birds chirping contrasts well with a grieving character
- depending on the person, sadness can result in lashing out at others for no reason or shutting everyone out
to show anger (rage, frustration)
- red face, fists clenched
- narrow eyes
- sharp comebacks, gritting teeth
- the air around them is tense
- others may be silent, ignoring whoever they’re angry at
- inhales
- angry. tears.
- kicking, punching, slapping
to show shock (hurt, confusion)
- wide, confused eyes
- freezing in place
- collapsing to their knees
- silent and blank-faced
- ignoring everything else happening around them
to show happiness (joy, delight)
- bright eyes
- crinkles around their eyes from smiling so much
- laughter!
- optimism
- playful, laid back nature
- the weight being lifted off their shoulders
- relaxed sigh

Just a reminder that if you haven’t written in a while, be that a day, a week, a month, or even a year, that doesn’t make you any less of a writer. Life happens, and if you need to take a break for a period of time that’s ok. Your writing project will always be there for you to come back to when you’re ready, whenever that may be <3
The tide had come and gone, leaving the usual drift woods and trash in its place.
me: spare passion and creativity? spare passion and creativity ma’am???
my brain: but if i give it to you now then what will i keep you awake with when you go to bed tonight?
Fiction is disappointing in its portrayal of…people’s weirdness. Just how weird people really are in real life.
So many books have all their characters be incredibly normal and I’m like ????? You guys can go outside and not run into someone who is even slightly strange? Or act like “quirks” are only for characters who are explicitly supposed to be eccentric instead of just…people being people.
like, my neighbor sunbathes in his driveway in his underwear and builds coffins in his spare time. My OTHER neighbor just sets things on fire whenever he needs to relax so at random times he’ll be out burning his deck furniture or something. I knew a guy in high school who woke up every morning at 3am and could lip sync flawlessly to every veggietales song. I knew a girl who collected hand sanitizer and wore bright, glittery green eyesore alligator earrings after she got her ears pierced. our family friend back in Tennessee owns six pugs and an unbridled pug obsession. My brother (13) aspires to be a hobo and calls himself Moped the Cheapskate. My grandma reads ya novels (she loved six of crows btw), determined that she was a ravenclaw through the internet, is responsible for me learning my first curse word, and flips off trump when she’s watching him on TV. one of my high school friends was a conspiracy theorist who did intense research about chemtrails. a member of my squad when I was like 14 was referred to by us only as Poodle. the guy who taught my public speaking class in high school moderated a doomsday prepper forum and would talk wistfully about how he would like a bunker. I used to work out with a guy who worshiped Thor smack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt. today my best friend literally just ate dirt while we were hanging out and I can only be just like “whatever, he eats leaves, the little packets that say do not eat, and food off the floor of restaurants, how could a little dirt hurt him?” because that’s just what he does he just…eats things
The sad thing is that almost everyone I know would be The Weird One if they were part of the cast of a book?? But it isnt weird to be weird or eccentric or the opposite of normal. people are just…that way. books drop any somewhat unusual quality as a marker that a person is “eccentric” and I promise you can’t make your characters too weird
Because I write down people that I meet and hear of: my dad met a lady at his work who claimed to be psychic and talked at length about how ghosts would watch her shower (“I hope you like what you’re seeing!” she would tell them) and about the ghost-seeing party she was planning. He talked to a woman who was a sonographer and who had an enormous tattoo of a dragon all the way up her leg and thigh. “Organs move. Babies don’t,” was her wisdom. He met a guy with a phobia of glitter. People are weird. There’s no excuse to make stock characters and people who are average and without quirks. To me it just makes them seem undeveloped because EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING.
People are just weird. let them be weird pls
addition: the other day I met my friend’s friend, who once said “I’ve been run over, I’ve been shot, and my birthday is April 13” in a game of two truths and a lie; you can guess which one was false
my English teacher can throw axes. this came up in a conversation about knife throwing
My mom’s cousin 1) bought a urinal at a yard sale 2) had his 50th birthday party in a cemetery
Can I add?
You’re right. People are weird, so don’t be afraid to write weird characters!
I have a cousin who bought 1000 tiny plastic skeletons online so she could hide them in our grandmother’s house.
I know a girl who gave everyone she met a 100% original nickname. She still calls me Livers to this day.
My sister eats peanut butter whipped cream toasted bagel sandwiches with Cheetos stuffed inside. Nearly daily.
I have crashed a funeral, seen a car explode, and been stranded in a Wal-Mart for four hours all on the same day.
People are weird. That’s what makes them fun!
daydreaming is often a coping mechanism for people who are often lonely or don’t receive a good amount of love in their life, so they make people inside their heads that will love them so they can feel the right amount of love.
This is so, so important you guys.
Yes!!!
“Increased heartbeat, blush… oh dear, I know what you have.”
“What? What are you talking about?”
The old lady shook her head in sadness.
“You suffer of Love.”
Oh dear.
be sure to understand ur s/o’s way of showing affection and make them aware of yours.. some ppl show affection by buying u things and some ppl will say I love u a million times and some will make u breakfast some will leave u the last ice cream, but it’s really important to know about these things bc u could not notice them and feel unloved while your s/o feels taken for granted and it’s just all a big misunderstanding so please talk about these things
A human takes their dog out to play fetch on the moors. The dog disappears into the mist as they chase the stick, and when they come back they’re proudly carrying a sword instead of a stick.
Where did the dog get the sword and what destiny have they unlocked?
Trigger
Prompt: You watch from far away as a man lives the best day of his life. Then you take a deep breath, exhale, and pull the trigger.
Following the same guy for over a couple weeks had become part of his routine. Hakyeon had dressed up in all black to blend in easily. He pulled the cap lower watching Hongbin meet up with his best friends for some coffee. Hakyeon could recognize some of the those from the pictures of acquaintances in Hongbin’s file. Just like Hakyeon, Hongbin destroyed other people’s lives. He could hack anything, lead them to bankruptcy which was often followed by suicide.
Hakyeon trailed behind Hongbin to the Buddhist temple where he would visit his grandma every other week. This time, Hakyeon stayed behind in his car, allowing Hongbin some privacy. Personal moments like these would make him feel for those left behind after he was done with them.
Hongbin walked out of the temple looking serene and happier than when he got there. Then he went for brunch with his roommate. They ate and laughed together while talking animatedly. It was certainly the highlight of the day. With the friends he was giddy, with his grandmother he looked accomplished and with Wonshik, it was like it had all summed up to a joyous dimpled smile, crinkling eyes, and full body contortions that characteristically happened when these two were together.
They must really love each other, Hakyeon thought although he couldn’t pinpoint if their relationship was romantic or just straight up friendly. Nevertheless, there was an undeniable bond between them that started to guilt up Hakyeon’s conscience. Fuck. He couldn’t go soft on a target not now for fuck’s sakes.
Anxiety seeped through his veins, making him uneasy. He fetched a cigarette and lit it up before taking a calming drag. Hakyeon rarely smoked, it only happened when he felt for his target. Parents were leaving their children to fend for themselves. Kids that were drowning in debt but still tried to make ends meet. And Hongbin for being so real, leaving a friend he considered a brother on his own. Hakyeon had done this before, cruel, he could do it now.
A packet of cigs later, following Hongbin aimlessly he was found in a building rooftop with his snipper. Hakyeon hadn’t stepped back, but he couldn’t bear the mental image of Hongbin being mortally shot once. It was better this way. he would need a break after this, but the task would be complete in the end.
His phone ringed with a private number since it was normal for clients to make private calls guarding their identities, he answered right away.
“Yes?”
“Get the job done.”
“Excuse me?”
“Just get over and kill me already.”
Hakyeon focused the lens aiming at Hongbin’s head, his fingers trembled and his heart wanted to explode. It was the right time to shoot, no one was around and Hongbin seemed to have no intent in running away. Unless Hongbin was bluffing, seemingly noticing that Hakyeon was having second thoughts.
“I’m dead serious, you’ve been following me around and I knew my time was coming.”
Hakyeon took a deep breath, closed an eye for focus, exhaled and did the deed. He had done it. Something he still hated doing. A thing he had always been afraid off.
He had left the target alive.
“I can’t,” Hakyeon cried.
He couldn’t do what was done to him when he was younger. They had killed Taekwoon. Wonshik didn’t deserve this, he was weaker than Hakyeon. Hakyeon had moved on, but he was deeply scarred and it still hurt when he thought about it.
“Dude, you okay?”
“I was about to kill you a second ago, I don’t deserve your concern.”
“They’ll kill you for not killing me. May those five last minutes of your life be the best. Thanks by the way!”
Hakyeon fell to the floor as the bell from the elevator rang and four muscled men stepped out ready to beat Hakyeon to death. With every groan, blackening bruise and broken bone Hakyeon wished he could’ve been able to pull the trigger. Honestly, he had it coming, the torture was the easiest way to die after bearing the blood of hundreds in one’s hands. He should’ve followed his instinct and pulled the goddamned trigger.
“That’s enough, boys. He learned his lesson,” was the last thing he heard before passing out.
When Hakyeon woke up, he found himself in an unfamiliar room. Standing in the corner of the room was Hongbin and Wonshik.
“Careful, we don’t want the best hitman in the country having a poor recovery.”
Hakyeon stifled a laugh. “That was the plan, to force me into working for you.”
“You could’ve died if it weren’t for Wonshik, now stop fuzzing around.”
“I don’t owe you anything.”
“I guess you do. We were testing you and you passed, congrats.”
“Welcome to the family, Hakyeon,” Wonshik talked deeply for the first time.
Hakyeon closed his eyes, sighed and nodded. He had just become a full-time hitman working for a family and all. That’s why protocol can’t be messed with; it unleashed a chain of problems yearning to make life impossible.

Stay at home BF Lee Jaehwan
for @mochiminz who is BTS biased and complied with me with a VIXX request. I love youuuuu
Jaehwan grumbled dramatically for the umpteenth time, trying to get his point known. But you weren't having any of it. When you talked about work, it was severe. It wasn't something to be kidding with as easy as that. You had worked your ass off for your position, and no one was driving you away from it, not even your cute boyfriend that was pouting at you lethally across the table. He knew you were weak for his charms, but your mind was stronger than your aching heart begging you to comply with him and take a day off to stay at home doing nothing. Mostly being with him all day tempted you. He's been busy with work too, but since it's an offseason in between musicals, he was able to slack off and do whatever he wanted. You got up, put the dishes in the sink and sighed as you felt that he had moved along with you standing by your side. Then, you turned to face him. "I'll do the dishes for you, baby." "You detest doing the dishes. You must lose a game to be obliged to do so. Why would you do it now?" "Because I love you and if you don't get going in the next thirty seconds you'll get stuck in traffic and eventually be late." Instinctively, you wrapped your arms around his narrow waist, got up to your tiptoes and kissed his cheek. Jaehwan blushed profusely, got away from your grasp and managed to glare at you. "I'm still mad at you. You don't deserve a goodbye kiss." "Too bad," you sing, pulling him down for a chaste, but sweet kiss. "I wanted one." "You're not getting away with this!" he threatened as you left feeling victorious and lighter from the tense mood thought in the room. God, your boyfriend, could be childish sometimes.
"I'm home!" you announced, as you stepped out of your shoes letting yourself in the apartment. Jaehwan was playing a game on the TV with a blank face. He didn't even acknowledge you. It was unusual of him in a situation like this. Usually, he would jump out of the sofa without pausing the game and greet you repeating that he missed you so much over and over. It was as if you had left a puppy home instead of a grown ass man. "Don't tell me you're still mad at me." "Hmph." Jaehwan moved away from you. "Oh, come on! I had a tiring day. I need affection." "Should've stayed at home if you wanted that," he muttered and crashed the car in the TV. You laid your head in his lap, he seemed to give in with your ministrations, but he just planted his hands on top of your head as if you were a cushion of some sort. "Thanks for that," you snapped. "Go take a shower, you stink." You put a hand to your chest and gasped pretending to be shocked. "As if working in the office with a jacket would make me stink." "Exactly, you smell foreign, like you don't belong here." "Fine!" you exclaimed standing up and marching to your shared bedroom. Jaehwan was dramatic again. The damn grudge was going for about ten hours now. He couldn't be serious. You wanted to slap him so he could have a real reason to be mad with you. It pained you to even think of doing that, so you took a shower, washed your hair and wore his clothes.
"Let's stop this," you whispered. Jaehwan turned around with his mouth open in shock. "What are you talking about?" "I don't like fighting with you." "I'm sorry, baby. I don't like it either," he said and motioned for you to come over and sit with him. You obliged, feeling giddy hat you were making amends with him. Once you were close enough, he pulled you to his lap and kissed you gently drawing out the moment. "Apology accepted," you hummed leaning your head against the crook of his neck. "I just thought that you wanted to take some time off from work and we could rest together. You work too hard." "And I receive a deserving paycheck in exchange of my efforts. Besides, I got the weekend off." Jaehwan hummed, pressing a kiss to your forehead. "I yearned for this." "Are you quoting one of your lines?" "Can't I tell you how I feel?" Caressing his jaw, and looking at him intently, you urged him to go on. "...I cherish spending time with you even if it's just a few hours before we fall asleep and you're gone to work early in the morning. I love when you look at me when I'm pretending to look elsewhere." "I knew that you knew, you always have that half smile whenever I do that. I won't do it ever again." He grabbed your hands and shook his head violently. "It makes my day." You blushed, and squirmed away from his lap, landing next to him. "Do you want some fried chicken and beer?" "Can we order pizza too?" You held your phone to your ear. "I'll think about it." "You're the best." A smile broke free on your lips. "I know."
