we face misogynistic patterns of abuse, discrimination, and oppression, intertwined with and amplified by transphobia. and then, beaten down, when we seek community with others who face these things, we are laughed off as the jokes we've always been told we are

pale imitations of womanhood

when we are raped, it is a pale imitation of real rape

when we are abused by our partners, it is a pale imitation of real domestic abuse

when we are punished for our failures to meet patriarchal standards of womanhood, it's a pale imitation of the same thing happening to cis women

when we grieve our inability to give birth, it is a pale imitation of the grief of cis women who cannot give birth

when we face violence and murder at incredibly high rates, when we are threatened and catcalled and harassed by men in public, our fear is a pale imitation of that of cis women

when we are paid the lowest wages of any gender demographic, it is a pale imitation of the smaller wage gap faced by cis women

our suffering is a pale imitation of real suffering

what jokes we are

ntm that on top of that, to treat attraction to women as inherently and necessarily predatory in nature cedes the antifeminist argument that people who commit sexual harassment or even assault had no choice and that responsibility lies with the victim to be less attractive/vulnerable.

otoh every time you look with lust upon a woman and don't harass or assault her, you're living proof that attraction to women shouldn't excuse harm. Every time you hit on a woman in an appropriate environment in a way that respects spoken and unspoken nos, you're proving that wanting to fuck a woman doesn't excuse mistreating her.

thinking about it like that made it easier for me to stop feeling so much shame about my desire for women, anyways

Trans & disabled household in need of urgent help

We've got a household with four trans women and we are currently being threatened with eviction:

I lost my job recently and my unemployment benefits have now run out and despite constant searching I've not been able to get new employment yet and the amount of income we've had hasn't been enough to cover expenses, utilities, grocery, etc. Our landlord won't work with us and is demanding we pay the full amount by May 11th or they will start the eviction process. We've so far managed to put together a couple hundred, but we are still extremely short of our goal. Unfortunately we weren't able to raise enough to stave off eviction by the deadline, so it seems that it's inevitable at this point. We attempted pursuing rent assistance with a couple local organizations as well (although none of them could have covered the full amount needed), but we were repeatedly denied because our landlord may be committing some sort of fraud, with there being inconsistencies with the lease, ownership of the property and property management company. While that's making us feel hopeful about the possibility of being able to push back in court with the help of local pro bono legal services, it really isn't a huge help in keeping us housed in the immediate term. So we are prepping to leave early and rent a new place before our lease is up and (hopefully) before we can be removed via court order, but we need money for a new place and for moving expenses. So far since this post we've raised an extra $190 from a couple of donations. I'll lower the goal from 1625 to 1000 as that may be more realistic in the timeframe, but we desperately need the help. several of us here have spent time unhoused in our past and we REALLY don't want to end up there again. If you can help or just share this post it would really mean a lot!

We were able to pay some and prolong the date until the eviction, which is helpful because we haven't been able to find another place to rent yet, but it's unlikely we will be able to push it back any longer. Seeing as we won't be able to entirely vacate in the next week, we will end up in court facing eviction with an unknown timeframe until we're out on the street. Any mutual aid here would be immensely helpful in helping us secure housing and help ease the little bit of sickening stress we've got this pride month :c

We were served the summons for eviction and will be pursuing a legal response, working with local pro bono legal services to get representation, but we've STILL not found a place to move to and have not saved up nearly enough to facilitate a move, and are still in desperate need of financial aid. I think a perfectly exhausting summation of the "are trans men lesbians" debate is a very popular lesbian history account on Instagram has gone on her millionth anti-trans women/transfem lesbians tirade, and I've seen at least two different lesbian accounts try to counter this with examples of transmasculine lesbians/"male impersonators" and several more refusing to specify the inclusion of trans women within lesbianism, instead making blanket statements about "trans people." Idk something to chew on.

this is one of the issues with the refusal to understand transmisogyny as a distinct phenomenon from general transphobia. people think that supporting trans people in general can somehow substitute for supporting trans WOMEN specifically, and it provides cover for people like this:
