okay but an actual serious post for once but Rimmer finding out his father isn’t actually his father and that he wasn’t shackled to expectations from a military family anymore was actually such a great moment. I wish they had done more with it. I do genuinely believe a lot of his more negative, old fashioned opinions come from those expectations and seeing him embrace that he doesn’t have to let this affect him (even if it was brief) was just…I’m just so happy for him.

Arnold Rimmer is a great character to watch unfurl because on the surface he's just a right wing military nutter - but then you look deeper and realise that he doesn't sincerely subscribe to a lot of those beliefs and it's all childhood trauma.

Then u peek behind the mask a third time and realize all the other weird traits left is just because he's clearly autistic

Then u look one last time and realize despite all that - he is still an asshole. He's still very much a bastard lol
