Whenever I thought of Anton Yelchin, this was the image that came to mind first. He was such a gentle and sweet soul.
Rest in peace Anton, weâll never forget you. ;__;

Garb on a Budget: embellish your costume for under $5
Now that weâve bought our budget fabric and talked about how to turn it into bomb-proof garb, letâs make it look good! Embellishment and decoration can be an expensive part of costuming, especially if youâre used to buying trim from craft stores. How can you make fantastic garb but still keep your costs down? Donât despair: if youâre willing to apply a little time and effort, you can jazz up your garb for less than the cost of a latte. After all, cheap garb doesnât have to look cheap. Try the following to decorate your entry to the Dagorhir 2016 $20 Garb Challenge!
This âfancyâ tunic was decorated using embroidery floss I bought at a flea market. I stitched it in a couple episodes of Gilmore Girls. Impressive, easy, and cheap!

Garb on a Budget: what fabrics to buy, and what to avoid.
While I was pulling together inspiration and tutorials for the 2016 Dagorhir $20 Garb Challenge, I was thinking about all the times Iâd been too broke to buy sewing and costuming materials, and how I made do. I started Dagorhir as a broke-ass high schooler, and I only started sewing for other fighters so I could afford gas money for events! Though Iâve upgraded my garb from my original collection of tunics made out of old bedsheets, I still believe that you can build a great Dagorhir costume on a budget. In the next couple days, Iâll be talking about how to create a great-looking kit when you donât have much cash. Today, letâs start with the basics: cheap, sturdy fabric. These arenât, by any means, the only worthwhile budget fabrics you can by, but theyâre ones Iâve used in the past to decent results. Iâll always prefer linen, wool, and silk, and sometimes you can find those affordably. Check the sites listed in the Linen FAQ for salesâ you might be surprised!
Iâve outfitted lots of noobs with the aid of the thrift store! This above was <$5 of fabric.

First day on the job.
Where in the world do I begin? Hello, my name is Jonathan Dart and, as of today, I am officially the IT guy at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.Â
You read that correctly. It took them until 2016, but both students and staff alike have finally caved and demanded that their cell phones work on school grounds, and with that request they had to find a âmuggleâ (a term Iâm quickly learning to detest) to install wifi and maintain any technology that functions on school grounds.
So letâs make this clear to any wizards, witches, or IT muggles allowed into their circle out there. I just entered this âwizarding worldâ 3 days ago. This is all entirely new to me. Iâm writing this because Iâve learned through the grapevine that other magical schools are planning on making the same jump, and Iâm hoping my experiences can help other outsiders down the road.
As its my first day I really donât have much advice to give. All I can do is stand here and wonder to myself what the hell I was thinking. For the record, Iâm typing this on my iPhone while I ride a magic staircase. They better have beer in this world because Iâm going to need a drink tonight.

The Yaya Han fabrics are in at Joann Fabrics
And I feel as if you guys need to know about these. Â Because I donât want some unsuspecting cosplayer to waste their money. Â Before I go on, I want to say that I am a costume maker and I have a degree in costume and fashion technology. Â As a part of that degree I had to learn a ton about fabrics and I handle fabrics that range from $2 - $200 a yard every day.
So I came in to this yesterday.  A cart full.  We didnât get too many, you can see they all have the Yaya Han logo on them and they all say âCosplay by Yaya Hanâ on the end.  They all cost $19.99 (on the Joann website, they actually have some that are even more expensive) and are not going on sale any time soon. Included in what was there are these:
7 metallic 4 way stretch fabrics. 1 of these is a print (the red scales??).  Theyâre very similar to the âperformance fabricsâ that are actually across from these in the aisle.  However, theyâre extremely cheaply made and stick to each other.  I can already foresee the horror of having to measure these, all that loud peeling noise of having to separate it all from itself. The only really useful color that was there was the metallic black, which looks a bit like wet look leggings.  The unfortunate thing is that directly across the aisle is the exact same thing.  For cheaper.  Youâre basically paying extra for her name to be on them.
Next is the stretch pleather and the twill.  The pleather was grey, that was the only one there.  It was VERY thin, I could see it pretty much only being used for a body suit or leggings, but the color was so odd I donât know what costume would use it.  The thing was.  Again. It was cheaply made.  It was brand new just out of the plastic and already peeling off of the backing.  Truthfully, this was the one thing I was sort of excited about in this line and Iâd happily use a 50% or 60% off coupon on a couple of yards if it was more substantial.  Itâs the only thing in this line so far that I feel the price is worth it, if it was thicker. (Please note that Joann HAS a stretch pleather for $12.99.  It doesnât stretch as much as this, but it works very well for nice tight sleeves) The twill is described as âcorset twillâ, however, itâs NOT coutil.  I could see it being a nice replacement for it, but itâs not as thick.  The weave is nice (you can see it sort of), but again, something that Joann already sells for $9.99.
And finally, the brocades. Â Theyâre all polyester nylon blend. Â The color range isnât bad and Joann purposely put their peacock brocade on clearance because they were getting these. Â The thing was, I was sort of hoping for a range. Â Something different that wasnât already there, something good for things like Game of Thrones costumes. Â What we got was exactly what we already had, just 60âł instead of 45âł. Â Except for the second blue one (which is peacock feathers) all of the designs are the same paisley. Â Youâre basically paying $10 just for 15 extra inches wide. I want to see the rest of the collection, thereâs a rib knit I found online in it thatâs $29.99 and I need to see what the big deal about this is, when thereâs rib knit at Joann for $9.99 already. Â In my opinion, right now, itâs not worth it. Â Donât waste your money, itâs cheap, it sticks to itself, and itâs exactly whatâs already at Joann. Â The pleather is the only thing I would spend my money on and you can buy it online for cheaper. (Itâs $15 at Mood and at Spandex World). Â These should be out at all Joanns and others may have what we donât so please feel free to add onto this post as you see fit. Â But this is my personal review out of the package of the Yaya Han cosplay fabrics.
actually the yaya han fabrics are terrible and heres why!!! i saw this on a friends of mines facebook and honestly couldnt believe it but what more to expect from yaya.. please be safe while buying this fabric if you still choose to!!!
My god! Thatâs so bad!
